On every major update, I restore the phone using the ipsw file, and then load a backup. At this time, in our house there are 4 iPhones (iPhone 13, two iPhone 13 minis and a 12 Pro Max). On my wife’s 13 mini and on my 12 Pro max we get the apple id request on every restart. The other two phones do not do that. All of them are on 16.0.2, after a clean install of 16, and then update (always through iTunes) on 16.0.2. The problem started on 16, and is still here!

So a clean install will not solve it, for sure!

Go to:
1. Settings.
2. Tap on your Name.
3. Tap on Find My.
4. Turn off Find My iPhone.
5. Reboot.
6. You shouldn't be prompted to Sign-In after rebooting.
7. Re-enable Find My iPhone.

You *might* need to do this twice if first time didn't work.

Wow, it works. Actually it didn't help after first attempt, but the problem is gone after doing it twice. Thank you!

Just tried it 1x, no prompt. But then, I didn't always get one, anyway. We will see. NO comms from Apple Support on this. Not good.

Sorry, but this did not work at all. 1st attempt, step 5 after reboot, it is already asking for a password. entered password, redo the process thrice and the prompt is still there.

The prompt will be gone if I sign out In media and purchases in settings. but that means i cannot update my apps.

No updates from support. Some are saying it is fixed in 16.1 beta. But not sure. Haven’t tried it yet…

My wife is getting this issue on her iPhone XS on iOS 16.

I noticed last night that her phone is now on 16.0.2 but not sure if she is still seeing the same issue so as soon as I know, will report back.

But you’re loading a backup… moving the behaviour to your freshly reset device

"every restart"...?

How often and why do you keep restarting it?

I might restart my phone every 6 months or so if theres a significant issue but daily...? Never.

Annoying bug maybe but not one you should have to encounter if you just leave the phone on.

If I turn it off, then turn it on, I get a prompt to enter password. This did not happen once before 16.

new update did not fix problem. just turned on phone, immediately asked if I wanted to sign in--and I am already signed in.

Which new update ?

Isn't iOS 16.0.2 the current version (non beta versions) ?

Perhaps this may be fixed in 16.1?

EDIT - Just seen on another thread that 16.0.3 has just been released.

My question is why are you turning it off? - I appreciate there may be a bug causing this to happen but it seems to me to be the easiest thing in the world to avoid...
Dont keep turning the phone off!

There's no benefit in leaving your phone turned on whilst you are asleep (from what I can see) - I also turn mine off every night when I go to bed...

OK!

Each to their own.... you do you as they say.

Personally, I could count on one hand the number of times ive rebooted my phone in the last 5 years. Its rarely necessary and even then it never stays off - just a reboot.

To explain, the phone is my only phone - and should I need to be contacted in an emergency I simply cannot fathom how I could turn it off overnight for example....

That said I do NOT want to be disturbed by it when sleeping so I use the sleep focus mode when I go to bed and it basically shuts down anyway whilst charging with the screen off etc.... but I have allowed my (elderly) parents to override if they call in case of emergency.
But, never off!

All valid points actually - I guess I have just been accustomed to turning my phone off every night!

Maybe I should just try leaving it on as well!

begs the question when do you charge your phone if not overnight.... because it will turn on whilst charging whether you like it or not!

In addition to my emergency contacts (or at least people i need to be able to call me day or night if they are in trouble) I also allow certain apps to override sleep mode - specifically my security system and cameras - no point spotting someone trying to break in if the phone is on silent and the notification cant be heard!
