3 restarts including the 16.0.3 install, and no sign of the password request. Whether that means it was fixed or was just a temporary pop up I don’t know.

It's intermittent. I won't see it for 10 restarts; then 3-4x in a row. Just like a nagging headache you cannot get rid of.

Hello there,

If there is an update for the applications downloaded with a different apple account, go to the app store and update it. Enter the password of the other apple account you used while downloading the app. Reboot your phone after the update is finished. Check if a password is required again.

For a couple years, and still happening occasionally, restarting my iPad pops up a notification that I have overdue reminders when there are none. Also happens on my phone but not as often. I ignore it because I can just swipe it away. With the password request you can just tap cancel. Neither is a significant issue since most people don’t restart their devices that often and a swipe or a tap just isn’t that hard to do.

And since 16.0.3 I haven’t seen the password request but I still see on occasion the erroneous reminders notification. No biggie and not worth even mentioning. I haven’t seen it mentioned outside of this thread so not much of a problem for most.

It's funny you should say that. I have an expensive car that has the check engine light that comes on every morning. I just reset it every day. The car seems to drive just fine so I'm sure the engine light doesn't mean anything is wrong.

Odd that the same car also won't go into 5th gear, but as I don't use 5th gear for anything other than highway driving, I put up with it. I know it's an expensive car, but who cares right? It's such a small thing.

Uh, that’s not an annoyance that’s a repair issue that prevents proper operation of the vehicle. Don’t think a tap or a swipe will clear that one. I have no issues operating my devices and my fingers work quite well.

Is it not proper operation of the Iphone to have access to the App store? How about expecting for it to turn on and off without problems?

You want to put up with an expensive annoyance you are more than welcome to. I want a fully functional phone that I can turn on and go without problems which is why I paid the big bucks. I protect my phone, I don't abuse it, I expect it to work as intended. Right now, it's not.

I don’t have any issue with access to the App Store. Never have. I’ve not seen that mentioned only the recurrent pop up password request for the Apple ID that I use for the App Store. Once I tapped cancel I had no issues, and didn’t have to enter anything. I haven’t even seen this in about 2 weeks. If you can’t get into the App Store then that’s a separate issue which is a problem.

And how often do you do that? Normally I only restart once a week. And it has only been the apps and media purchases Apple ID for me. One tap once a week is not a bug I’d give any attention to.

Hmm, not what you said earlier. The bug is if you cancel the Apple ID request when you start your phone you can't use the app store, as in, you can't update apps or make purchases until you authenticate your apple ID. For those of us who do turn off our phones more often it is an issue.

Only have 1 account. One ID. That's it. All apps are always updated.

Yep. I protect mine. Nice case. An 11 Pro Max with out a single mark on it. I expect nothing less than 100% functionality from a $1300 phone, which is not unreasonable.

When I saw the first posts about this it was mentioned that the request was for the password to the Apple ID used for media and app purchases, I have 2 Apple IDs, which is what I saw 2, maybe 3 times since I got my 14 PM. The first time I entered my password and had no further such requests, then reading through the early posts here I read one where the person said to just tap cancel and the request field goes away. So the second time I saw it pop up, after a restart, I tapped cancel, it went away and I had no issue with the App Store. I checked my account tab on the Store everything was listed as normal and I never had a problem with any apps either being downloaded or updated.

It’s been so long now that I’m not certain but I may have had it occur again but cancel took care of it. That last time may have been the Friday before 16.0.3 was released which is normally when I restart all my devices. So I think I saw it then and tapped cancel. After 16.0.3 was installed and the phone restarted it didn’t pop up. And the next day, I always restart my devices the day after a new ios release, it didn’t occur. And last Friday I restarted all devices and nothing occurred. So I consider it fixed. But even when it did occur for me all I had to do was tap cancel.

Many people go even longer between restarts, some only do it when a new ios is released as some in this thread have mentioned. So they would rarely see it even if it was occurring. Several here like myself have said that the request stopped after 16.0.3. Some issues like this are related to specific iCloud accounts and may be very limited which may be why I’ve not seen any reports of it on any other forum. If I were having the issue I would first sign out of that iCloud account, since it is not my primary, and see what that does. Beyond that I would call Apple Support to create a case number so they can take a look at those iCloud accounts to see what may be going on. Almost 2 years ago now there was a very serious Mail bug that only affected some accounts, only one of mine, and after working with the Support guys each affected account had to be tracked down taking a couple months before it was resolved. So get that case number started but you may be waiting for a while.

As I am having the issue on an IOS 16 phone, and not on a 15.7 Ipad (using the same apple ID on both of which I only have apple ID), for me it is an IOS 16 related issue.

For me the only thing that fixes it is to sign out of the app store. When I do that I never have the issue. Signing out of Face ID still gave me the issue, removing Apple ID from device and signing back in still has the issue, imessage.... The list goes on.

I will mention when I first installed IOS 16 the app store wanted me to agree to updated terms and conditions when updating apps but failed when I tried to proceed. I was told try again later. They obviously had an issue as this was fixed in a few hours with the Apple ID bug shortly afterwards.

From Apple: 'I explained in my past communication the engineers are aware of this ongoing issues and will be addressing with an update. They will be letting us know, no need to restore and reinstall. Hope you have a great day and weekend.' (name), Senior Support.'

She is also referring to the constant MBP issue of thumbnails showing as white JPEGs:
