I’ve gotten so used to not having it, and now that’s it’s back I can barely read it! I might actually go back to the way it was for the last five years 😂

Oh let's see...how many years did that take them when they could have done this on day one?

Pathetic.
Well, battery percentage never went away. It could still be seen by pulling down from the top right corner and the percentage will show. True, it's not as elegant or convenient as what Apple is currently testing with in the beta.

It's nice that it's back, but just wished it didn't compromise the battery status bar.

Interested to know what does it look like when the battery background is shorter than the numbers.

In other words, Say it is 50% - are the numbers two different colors since the background on the 5 will be white and the 0 will be clear?
Perhaps they have removed the graphic charge indicator in order to fit the numbers in? that would suck as I found the quick check of the graphic more useful than the approximate detail of the numbers.

Perhaps the fastest-growing thread in MacRumors history. Seven pages in an hour. Says a lot about us.

Also, can the percentage number be turned off? I know it's right there in the original article, but I don't really have time to read it.
Settings > Battery, and I think it's where it used to be

Now people on macrumors will hate the notch even more. Because they'll always stare on the battery percentage in the menu bar and thus will always have the not h in their sight. Good thing for Apple: They don't need to design the redt if the OS or apps anymore, so expect iOS 17 to be 97% black, blank screen.

there’s 2 features that will make me update to ios 16, haptic feedback on keyboard while silent mode, and the battery percentage.
I’m also excited about the haptic feedback. Not sure why Apple took it away. The keyboard itself feels premium and exclusive. Glad, it’s finally coming back

I'm not saying they should've ever removed the option, but when they did...it converted me from a "always show the percentage" person to one who won't turn it on now even if I can.

For me, being constantly conscious of the number contributed to inducing "battery anxiety". Just the bar, being a more "loose", imprecise indicator...made that go away.

Now, if I get the 20% indicator with a lot of day ahead of me...I'll worry about getting charged. Otherwise, doesn't cross my mind at all. I prefer this.

Even "trained" myself to not look at the percentage exposed in Control Center.

Not saying it's better or worse...just glad it's a toggle so everyone can pick what they want.

I thought the point of the number is so you don't need to have a bar-graph meter shrinking over time.

It's the number that tells you how much battery percentage you have, right?

People were upset when the number went away with the iPhone X

Well it's finally coming back! Hooray!

Only complaint I have is that from a distance the icon looks like it indicates a full battery when it’s only partially charged. I realize this is a result of it not being practical to split the contrast of the text over partially depleted battery, but this is going to take some getting used to as at a glance I thought I had a full battery until I looked closely.

I used both the number and icon to determine how much battery I had. At a glance I could tell if it was green enough not to worry about depending on what I was doing and looked at the number if I needed more info.
