With RC I am finding the only way I can tell my VPN is running (ProtonVPN) is look in the app or in settings. Status bar and widget are incorrectly displaying the status.
Was showing correctly in beta 8
Showing correctly on iPad Pro 11 16.1.
I don’t mind it but is it normal that the VPN logo is no longer shown when I swipe down? I have Lockdown running 24/7 but there is no VpN logo
Not sure if it has anything to do with the VPN itself but Nord VPN shows up fine in the status bar on my 13P.
It was working fine for me before iirc but I also reset all Settings after the update.

iOS 16 has decreased my battery life quite a bit. I now can get about 6-7 hours of SOT until completely dead, when I used to be able to go to 7-9. I would go to sleep with 40-20% battery left, now I’m getting down to 20-0% at the end of the day. I still have 98% battery capacity.

I would try reinstalling the RC from IPSW file. A fresh install using the tethered method has been known to clear things like this up.

Also, it’s not a good idea to let your battery go in the red to many times and especially drain, that will over time quickly diminish your battery’s health due to the way lithium batteries like to be looked after - you might already know that, just saying.

Siri seems to be having request issues when using hey Siri and dictation, any one with issues?
I’m having the same issue. It recognizes when I say “hey siri” but then gives me the “on it” then “something went wrong” replies. Speech to text isn’t working either. I’ve tried reboots, reset network settings. None of that works. It also made me realize how much I use text to speech. So if any one else has any ideas let me know

Uneventful, fast, stable. Just like an upgrade should be.

Added bonus is that album art is back on my iDrive screen when streaming music over Bluetooth.

Good stuff.

Sooooo…has the timer appearing on the Lock Screen been a thing throughout the beta? Or is this the non-14PM implementation of the dynamic Island?

Did we have a timer app on the phone before? (thought they were using reminders for that) Me, I'd prefer that they integrate the watch timer with the Lock Screen...have the timer sync'd between watch and iPhone - like alarms are.

The timer was (is) part of the clock app. It's been there forever. Not sure when it started appearing on the lock screen, though.

Maybe not iOS 16 related directly but on iPhone on iOS 15.6.1 if you go to Software Updates you have such info. It was not present parallely with any previous iOS 16 beta versions.

Heh - thanks. Been using the watch for this since S0. Only time I've used the iPhone for a timer was when I needed multiple - and would use "hey Siri" for that usually, as my phone would be lying there. I know there was a time that Siri was using reminders for that.

Been there since Beta 1. I use that a lot, so have seen it hundreds of times.

iPhone XS:

Performance is about the same compared to 15.6.1, maybe it's a tiny bit faster...
Battery life seems like it's better.
My series 4 AW with WatchOS 9 is also performing well, battery is the same, comparted to 8.7

Battery is horrible on my 13PM as well.

Yes. I set a time in the usual way (for me) by asking Siri to set it for 10 minutes. The timer used to appear in a little lozenge beneath the clock on the Lock Screen. So this was a pleasant surprise. I shall enjoy it until next Friday when this will appear in the Dynamic Island of my new phone.

As of iPadOS 16.1, the Clock app Timer display in Notification Center and the Lock Screen is still broken.

All seems fine at first when you start a Timer, swipe down Notification Center and the timer’s there above the clock. But then lock and unlock the iPad and the timer no longer replaces the date above the clock.

Further investigation (fiddling) reveals the above-clock Lock Screen behaviour is largely broken too:
  • Lock then immediately wake the iPad and you get the correct behaviour, the date is shown briefly then replaced with your Timer.
  • Lock the iPad and then wait a few seconds before waking the screen and there’s no temporary date display, just your timer.
  • While your Timer’s displayed on the Lock Screen, unlock with Touch ID and the date OVERLAPS your timer!
I reported this August 13 – FB11243452 (Notification Center Timer countdown display broken after locking iPad)

Another small, messy detail. The iPadOS Notification Center Timer isn’t monospaced so every second as the number(s) change, all the numbers jumble around slightly as automatic kerning does it’s thing.

At least iOS 16’s Timer live activity works well!

Still is a bummer that something that simple like showing the percentage of predicted rain in the Watch (mirroring the phone) still doesn’t work, even when raining. (Reported again).

Maybe now we need the new AW ultra so it gets the ultra complicated task of showing what are the chances of rain today or that is raining right now with the new equipments integrated in the Watch. JK 🤣

My weather app issues seem to have worked themselves out! Previously, the data on iOS 16 vs a device I still have on 15 didn't match up. Temps between the two were off by a few degrees and precipitation percentages also differed.

Looking at it now...the accuracy seems to be back to where it should be! The temp is matching up with the iOS 15 device as well as my other weather apps. With all the additions to the weather app, and now that the accuracy is back to where I would expect...I'd actually feel pretty confident getting rid of some of my other weather apps.
