I wish Apple would do what they did on their wired earbud cables and, I think, on some of the iPod Touches, and put a third button between the up and down volume buttons on the iPhone, that would serve as play/pause, skip forward/back, and answer/hangup. It annoys me that with the phone in my hand and my eyes focused elsewhere, I can raise and lower the volume but I can’t pause/resume playback without staring directly at the screen to find an onscreen button to touch. It ensures that the iPhone is not the best iPod ever, despite what they used to say.

Go to the Accessibility settings and turn on "Back Tap" for double and triple tap back of iPhone. You can set these to do multiple functions.

You can have your phone phone still in front pocket and as long as backside is facing out you can perform multiple functions by just tapping on the phone.
See if any of those work for your needs.

Oooh hell noo not updating my iphone 12 its lagging already on ios 15
My iPhone 11 Pro is also very unresponsive at times. And my first gen iPad Pro is barely usable with iOS 15. Going to take the plunge anyway because if my device was no longer supported I would be mad anyway.

Have to see if that apple fitness thing on the phone works or not. I have to turn off my bluetooth on my phone so breaking the link to the applewatch 5 I have when I am recording anything otherwise it uses the altimeter in the phone which is rubbish and gives me false readings. I'm wondering that if I do that it might duplicate the exercise. We will see.

Updating day 1. There will be the usual hysterics from people about bugs that are completely overblown. Done it every year on release day since iphone 4 and never had any problems.
iOS 11 and 13 had terrible bugs that made my phones very irritating to use. Overblown maybe, but real for sure.

iOS 15 on my original iPad Pro is running smoothly. My usage is CODM, photo and video editing, and universal control.

I’m going to install on my old phone as soon as it comes out! I want something to play with while waiting for my new iPhone to come in since it’s going to be October for me. 😤

I dont do this, but I might this year. I imagine it feels like Christmas!
Feeling similarly.
Typically, I install the latest OS update ahead of my iUP device delivery. Making setup from latest backup easier.

This year, I might start anew on my 14 Pro and simply enable my I loud account and go from there. Does doing so, pull in my Photo library?

Wow, so customizable, and yet I can’t get rid of the flashlight or camera buttons that I constantly activate by accident.

On that topic, why the hell do we need a camera button AND a swipe left for the camera?

Someone puts these things in and then ignores them forever. And then spend all their time doing new, unnecessary things like dynamic island to try to drive hardware sales.

Yes. the iphone lib is connected to cloud. will all of them download at once, I think that depends, it may just go back to a certain date at first.

Those of you still on iOS 14 now is the time to install the most stable iOS version that’s being signed for the next year. iOS 15

After having used iOS 16 for several weeks now, I think it's a pretty minor – even "meh" – upgrade.
Being able to assign different lock screens to different focus modes finally got me to start using focuses for more than just DND.

Having my phone change how it behaves depending on what I’m doing is the biggest iPhone change I’ve experienced in a decade.

For me, iOS 16 has been a monumental change to my phone. I almost feel like I switched to a different brand device.

You can always load a backup from an older iOS version onto a new iPhone. Updating your old phone is of no benefit, other than getting a sneak peek at the latest iOS.

What can be a problem is if the iOS update you put on your old phone is newer than what comes pre-installed on the new iPhone. That has happened where an iOS update comes out before your new iPhone arrives.

Nice. The latter is what I am looking to avoid. 😜
Thanks for the update.

None of these warrant a new OS. Any could have been point updates. Ever since my inadvertent update to 14, which broke compatibility with photos on my 2015 macbook, I am never updating ever again.

iOS 16 isn't just these features of course. As you know, for example it includes a whole new way of interacting with iPhones, Dynamic Island. That most definitely warrants a new iOS version. These just go along for the ride.
