My guess is also that we’ll see the announcement of the new iPads by the 17th or 18th. If there is no invite sent out today, it will likely be done by press release, as has been surmised.

It’s a carrier restriction, not Apple. They can only release the carrier update as per their request.

Basically, blame the carrier, not Apple.
The carriers have a released a Press Notification on Twitter where they are waiting for Apple to push an update.

Interesting. Carrier updates can be independent of iOS updates, so really there is no reason for that. iOS already technically supports 5G so no real reason for an iOS update to be needed with the carrier update.

Maybe carrier is just being lazy and not pushing for the carrier update sooner.

Either way, still carrier’s fault, not Apple, which was my actual point.

I have never received an update to the carrier version, it has always been updated with an iOS release. So I'd say an iOS update is needed to update this.

iOS updates are definitely not needed for carrier updates. You used to be able to plug your phone into iTunes, click check for updates and then it would download and install carrier updates. Now you can just go to General -> About and it will pull the lastest update available.

If carrier updates were iOS dependent, after 5 years you would no longer get carrier updates as the device no longer gets iOS updates.

A few regulars on here laughed when I said 16.0.3 and yet it came out so let’s not rule out 16.0.4 just yet. 16.1 is still at least 2 weeks away.
