I always came with the thought at how annoying siri is when it reads out text messages in spanish when you have Siri in english. I really wish apple could take advantage of the fact the users that are bilingual use both versions of their keyboard by changing the language of it. Why can’t apple figure out the text from the sender based on their keyboard setting to be read out by the senders language setting

For Example Person 1 has Iphone set to English and Keyboard to English but also has keyboard option for Spanish, Person 2 text Person 1 in spanish but Siri would read out the spanish text in English which is extremely awful.

It would be nice if apple made it where based on the senders keyboard option would allow Siri to swap out its language to correctly read out Person 2 text correctly

So it would be Person 1 has both English and Spanish keyboard on but English Siri , Person 2 sends text in Spanish to Person 1, Siri would then see that the Spanish text based on Person 2 keyboard language setting and would then swap Siri language and Keyboard to Spanish which would make it easier to respond in the second language.

I personally think this could work and for people that don’t want Siri to swap languages and keyboard languages to have a setting to disable that option.

I honestly can’t see how apple Can’t make Siri bilingual. This would make it extremely easy for bilingual people to communicate without the problems that Siri keeps only 1 default language

iOS 16 Beta Schedule

Note: Apple has changed the way it names public betas so the release now matches the developer beta it is associated with. Public Beta 2 is in fact the "first" public beta released

  • Developer Beta 1
    • June x, 2022, 10 a.m. PT
    • x days
Since I've been maintaining the iOS schedule on the iOS 15 speculation thread, seems like I should start the one for iOS16. I'm sure mods will eventually sticky this in the eventual iOS 16 forum and make this post a Wiki so others can update with me!

Go ahead and start speculating...what are the features you think we will see? What do you WANT to see?

* Always on display...please!!
* Better/Live widgets
such nonsense to speculate about it. wait for the Betas and see whats coming up smh

Does anyone know based on previous releases, when we could start getting the Betas for IOS 16? I know they are announcing it in early June but does Apple start releasing the betas for that version normally before the announcement?

The first developer beta (called the Developer Preview) will be available within an hour after the conclusion of the keynote address at the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) on Monday June 6. The public will see betas a few weeks later.

Same as always.

Being bilingual I would love that too.I have keyboard in french and english and have no problem writing in both languages without having to change keyboards. OTOH Siri for me is in french so when I ask to play a song ( Often an english name) all hell brakes loose and Siri can't understand. This would indeed be a great addition .

Just seen Dan tweet this, who agrees with him

Oh my gosh, I miss him here! :( People were always so cruel to him. He and I were twitter mutuals before I got my account permanently suspended.

More on-topic, I don’t get the calls for “home bar” cleansing—it is a useful, basic, generally never-intrusive-or-obstructive interface element in my humble opinion, but then again I don’t really play games on my phone or anywhere (although I do watch video content from time to time).

I would like to see Settings fully re-designed in a more logical & user-friendly fashion. That alone would make me very happy with iOS 16. However, since this thread is for speculation...I speculate that's not going to happen :(

macOS needs it even more. But agree with you…on both counts!

Let’s be real, iOS and iPadOS 16 will most likely drop support for A8/A8X, and A9/A9X devices, including:
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPhone 6s / 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (1st generation)
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch (1st generation)
  • iPad (5th generation)
The iPad (5th generation) has the same A9 SoC and 2 GB of RAM as the iPhone 6s, so it will most likely lose support in the same version as the 6s. I expect the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro to stick around due to its extra RAM.

As for a UI refresh, I have no idea when Apple will go through with it, but if it’s a neumorphic design I’m hoping it will bring back the textured UI look of iOS 6 (without harming virtual cattle, i.e. matte and glossy finishes on UI elements, maybe a frosted glass Dock similar to OS X Mountain Lion & Mavericks) while also having macOS-style icons, which would look better if iOS’s UI had more depth to it (i.e. shadows behind the icons along with in the icons). They could also separate the icons into layers like in tvOS so the parallax effect on the home screen causes things like the bubble in the Messages icon to move around; that would be both trippy and fun.

This has been my biggest problem with iOS. I f*****g hate the camera shortcut. I don’t use it, the rare times I ever touch the camera I can open it from my homescreen. The shortcut constantly opens itself. Sometimes I’ll pull my phone out of my pocket and it’ll do it.
Hell I’d love to just not have a shortcut. If the option to change this in is available in iOS 16 I might ride the beta train like I did with 14.

Honestly I used to LOVE system preferences.
But since they’ve removed the labeled categories I find myself staring at the screen trying to find what I want for way longer than I need to. Reminds me of like a Windows 2000 control panel. Just a slew of icons.

Here’s what I mean for those of you who haven’t used the Mac for more than a few years:

This is the system prefs from Mac OS X 10.584ED3EDB-B48C-4ACE-8A9E-AB10DD500172.png

And this is from “modern” macOS

Whoever thought removing the categories was a good idea should not be on the design team.
