LAST TIME. DO THIS TODAY

See you on the other side

And remember: there is no prize for being the first to have the new beta installed (heresy, I know!!). Take your time to do an encrypted backup as close in time as you can to when you install the beta, even if that means you have to wait an hour to install. Trust me: you’ll still experience all the fun.

Some other points: carefully consider any warnings Apple gives about bugginess. They always give the “install only on phones designed for development purposes” warning. Although, that’s important, many ignore it. However, the one you’re looking for is like the one they gave for iOS 13, which was much more dire:

Important Note for Thrill Seekers: If you’re interested in living on the edge and trying out the great new features in iOS 13, we strongly advise waiting for the many bug fixes and refinements coming to the public beta next month.

Heed those warnings, if given, especially if you are (A) not sure about how to get back to iOS 15 if needed and/or (B) your phone is absolutely mission critical to your life or work. If you require medical apps to work (perhaps glucose monitoring), for example, don’t install the beta unless you are 100% certain you can revert if those apps don’t work in the new beta.

As it turned out, iOS 13 was very buggy in the early days. My GPS, for example, didn’t work for about 6 weeks. If I absolutely had needed it, I would have had to revert. Fortunately, I didn’t need to do that, but it was close.

Your life or livelihood is not worth being a “cool kid”.

Team: For ios 16 and forward, I'd like to see us have a pinned thread that has nothing in it but a single wiki post that lists the release date of the various betas and public releases for the iOS versions. Ideally, I'd like that to be a thread that moves to the then-current forum each year, so we have a running log of when betas were released (much like is done in the wiki at the top of this thread, but more encompassing and permanent).

Someone will no doubt refer me to the Wikipedia entry for all of the iOS releases. That is too cumbersome to scroll through on mobile and does not provide beta release dates.

Signify your support for this by liking (I am not doing this to get likes). If I see some support for the idea, I'll create the post and then ask you to "report" it to the mods asking that it be pinned.

It is now June 6 here in Sweden! This day is Sweden’s National Day and on that day use of luxury goods like smartphones, tvs and computers are forbidden.

This is so people can be reminded of when the country was poor and backwards and that we should not take things we have today for granted.

Therefore I can’t watch WWDC live so I’m a bit sad reading posts here. I will be watching the recorded video for sure on Tuesday. Although it is not the same thing 😕
None of this is true!

Is the format okay?? You will just copy and paste the "bullet points" and we'll just have it as a single post thread? (as much as possible that is...)

I believe I have reverted my iOS 15 betas back to the regular releases but I know I have 8.7 beta on my Apple watch & a beta on my Mac. Do I need to restore these back to the non-beta releases in order to upgrade to iOS/WatchOS/MacOS 16? Thanks in advance…

I'd like to see an option of using satellite view in Maps, an improved podcast app, an easier way of deleting pics from Messages (an option that works instead of deleting the entire thread), interactive widgets, more freedom in customizing screens, better Photos (management) app. Just some things I thought of.

I think so. The only thing I might change (and I have no pride of authorship here if someone else would like to post this rather than me) is to do them in reverse order, so the most recent release is at the top. So it would look like the following after DP 2 is released (NOTE: I am guesstimating 6/20 as the release date for the purpose of this example):

  • iOS 16 Developer Preview 2
    • June 20, 2022, 10:09 am PT
    • __ days [the days would be filled in when the next beta or public version is released]
  • iOS 16 Developer Preview 1
    • June 6, 2022, 1pm PT
    • 14 days

Reverse order makes COMPLETE sense.

I am imagining a Swedish SpecOps team bursting into this persons dwelling, but they have to use musket-loaders...
