Toggle between screen rotation locked/unlocked with 3 taps on the back. Today you can lock it, but not unlock it. Really weird behavior

Real automations! That's what I really want. No not the lame ones Apple gave us that still require you to tap on the notification, unlock your iPhone, then tap on "Run" in order to run the automation. That's called "doing things manually". Automations run by themselves without any interaction, hence the prefix "auto-".

And the return to the old style "do not disturb" instead of this absolute mess of "Focus" "Do not disturb" and "Bed time" (which needs to be set up in the Clock app unlike all the other "focus"-es that need to be set up in Settings) and whatever stupid submenus after submenus you have to dig through just to silence the damned phone.

Oh and system-wide landscape mode. When you're watching something in landscape mode and you have to quickly exit and check something then everything is suddenly tilted the wrong way. The iPad can do it, the ridiculously large iPhone can do it, why not the regular iPhone?

Oh and the ability to uninstall Maps. After this many years I think it's safe to say it will never catch up to Google maps.

Except Google Maps is flooded with shops and adds so whenever you click anywhere you’re likely to hit some restaurant or shop and it will open up info about that place you then need to hide. Sometimes I actually just want to go to some address instead some random business that payed most to be on top.

I fully appreciate that google maps is funded indirectly by adds like these. That’s totally fair.

Unfortunately Apple Maps seems to be going in the same direction but for now it’s less flooded.

Still nowhere near as fast as, for example, selecting multiple text messages and deleting all at once.

I think the poster was saying it would also be nice to finally be able to swipe left to delete a contact rather than having to tap edit, and scrolling all the way to the bottom for the delete button.

Make it less dumbed down like being able to do in-app updates in the background like on Android. The way iOS/iPadOS behaves now is in-app update stops when app is put in the background so you're forced to put it in the foreground and dumbly stare at it until it completes and if it's something big like Genshin Impact it will be a while.

I would like the option in mail to set an actiondate for a received mail. This is a feature in Outlook since 1998. And why not in Apple mail? I can’t believe it. I did asked every major update for this at Apple.

Are you stuck on 15.0?

A (strong) notification in Apple Watch if you leave your phone behind.

Location-based changes in Home Screen, so that if you are at work, work-related apps are more readily accessible, etc.

Search functionality in Messages is an abomination of both iOS and MacOS. Why can't I search a single user's thread - and have to search all messages? Why can't I specify a date range to search in? Why have we had over a decade of messages and there's been zero improvement here????????????????????
>zero improvement

We have saying. Healthy person has many wishes. Sick one only one, be healthy. It is similar here. I have only wish, our country got up to par with other regions in features and mainly language support. It is ridiculous to be still missing QuickType keyboard with prediction after 15 years.

I would much rather use Apple Maps than Google Maps. Neither app is perfect and can cause occasional problems for some people. It likely varies from place to place. Both are overall about equal functionally. I prefer the better integration of Apple Maps.

If they make it so easy to delete, then I hope they add a trash can feature so you can undelete the contacts you swiped away by accident. I guess I just don’t delete very often so am not bothered by an extra step to delete.

Maps - "Add a stop" gives me a list of specific categories to choose from on my route, like gas stations or convenience stores. That's fine, but what I need is the ability to, you know, add a stop that I actually need to make, like another address. The specific categories offered are fine for trips to destinations I'm totally unfamiliar with-- but sadly due to past experience, in those instances I'm not using Apple Maps.

Home Screen Icons -- The App Library does not solve the primary problem with the Springboard: organizing apps sucks. It was bad when apps first came available and it's still bad. Please just give us the option to view a vertical list that allows users to move apps up and down to organize! Please! I know it's not the direct manipulation that forms the basis of the iOS philosophy but again: it sucks.

Spam Filtering/Contact Blocking -- It takes five--count 'em, five taps to block a text bot. Then that same spammy thread has to be deleted again in Messages on my Mac. Isn't the whole point of this for these devices to work well together?

Apple Music crossfade -- By all accounts, the Android version of the Apple Music app has this. But the iOS does not. How is this possible? I'm supposed to buy a car from you one day, Apple?

Translate -- I just need to type a couple of paragraphs and send the translation to Messages. Takes me a fraction of the time in Google Translate as it does here due to the interface, because "copy" and "share" buttons are front and center. I do not need the dictionary to pop up every time I touch a word. This app needs a re-think.

Phone -- It's been 15 years since Apple re-invented the phone. Why can't I just paste a phone number into the field and dial? Other apps can do it on the iPhone. I prefer not to make phone calls, but when I have to, using the Phone app is like having to go into a phone booth.

Not quite sure what you mean by this one as I can paste a number into the dialler and dial it..?

the paradigm for translation is that you type the text in messages, select All , the choose translate. Not that intuitive though!
I agree that a copy button is absolutely required.

I just want it to run quickly again, ever since 15 all my photos are slow, I take a photo and it takes 10 seconds to show up, phone freezes while I open photo library and need to wait for new photo to show up.

I don't understand the request for "lockscreen widgets" - there is already the capability for widgets in the lockscreen by swiping right, which is where they should be. The main lockscreen display should be devoted to notifications and basic information, and that's it.

What's Rumored

In years past, we've had early versions of iOS leak out, giving us a fairly good idea of what to expect. That's not the case this year, and we only have a few details on what could be included in iOS 16.

The iPhone 14 Pro models won't have a standard notch, which means we could see some minor design changes, and there are rumors about Health app improvements, such as a medicine management tool.

Unspecified notification updates are in the works, and we could see emergency satellite messaging features and updates related to car crash detection. iPadOS 16 might be getting new multitasking features, and we could also see support for services that Apple is working on, such as a hardware subscription service.

You can read a bit more about what might be coming in our dedicated iOS 16 roundup.

What Else Do You Want to See?

Hoping for suggestions that aren't featured in our list? Let us know in the comments below.

I’d like Music App to feature Repeat option with a drop down selection showing Repeat Hourly / Daily / Weekly / Monthly.
