On the other hand, given that the second RC was released last Friday, a Tuesday release seems a little quicker. Perhaps on Thursday.

Once again, this time wasnt just rumours. The problem here is that the French authorities lied in their public statement when they said that 17.1 would be released on October 24th. Plain and simple.
I wouldn't say the government of France lied about anything.

Obviously, Apple has to give a date to the government for compliance with the patch needed to address their RF issues. Apple can skin it a number of ways. They could be late and pay a fine, whatever that fine is, or they can release something only in France to cover the RF issues.

It was everyone else who assumed whatever the patch is for the RF issues would be included in 17.1. Apple could easily release a 17.0.3.1 with the RF fixes, for instance.

Either way, it is a software update. It will come when it comes. No need to get heartburn.

Logical Apex, your response seems to be the most logical here. Kudos.

No later than October 24th, they said. Wouldn´t be easier to just have said "coming soon" instead?.

Bad form.

“Lied” - You sure have a flair for the dramatic.

Yeah, after all, I´m a Broadway baby.

Nah, I´m just anxious for 17.1 because it brings the enhanced dialogue feature to the original homepods and the minis..

Update: Apple unlikely to update iOS 17 today. Cinderella has been looking at that grandfather clock and it looks more and more likely that the coach (and probably herself) will turn into a pumpkin.

Edit: Further update; Cinderella sees it's 20:30 in Paris and them diapers is about to get water logged. Oh when oh when will that coach come? Is this a case of when life gives you pumpkin, you make pumpkin pie?

Edit: Further, further update; perhaps this is a case of national strike. Whoever was assigned to push that update button is waiting to hear how salary negotiations are going before deciding to push that button. Maybe?

The Oct 30th event supplants the ANFR release text. Apple has bigger fish to fry then discontinued product support expected fix dates for a iPhone 12. That fix is diffidently in iOS17.1 beta 3 SDK notes, but releasing 17.1 for iPadOS with the 30th might be a lot more important to achieve.

Considering there are many annoying bugs being fixed it's pretty easy to have heartburn.

With how buggy iOS 17 has been, I would prefer Apple release it when it’s ready, maybe some last minute fixes? Maybe they’re taking time to monitor how RC2 is doing and making sure it does not introduce additional problems? I’m happy to have 17.0.3, that fixed the heat issue that literally kept me from being able to use the iPhone as a phone without overheating.

Except RC2 was only for the 15, so there are a whole lot of other phones who still only have the first RC.

True. I was considering the phone I have, it does seem the 15 pros have had the hardest time with iOS 17 though. IMO iOS 17 was a month behind schedule and 17.1 (including all points in between) is what should have launched with the new hardware.
