I'm not sure how y'all are suggesting that scammers can make it sound like a family member? It's not like the scammer can sample enough audio sources of someone in your family speaking, painstakingly edit it all together to reflect the on-screen prompts so that the Machine Learning can generate a mimic, and then type out responses to the person they're scamming so that the phone reads it aloud. If you think that's possible, someone do a proof of concept, post your results here. I'll be waiting.
What the scammers are doing today is trolling through YouTube, TikTok, etc where people post videos with their voice and it gets sampled into one of many tools to create a facsimile voice. Then using various info people leak out, share, etc. use it to scam. One of MANY articles to browse: https://time.com/6275794/ai-voice-cloning-scams-music/

“I got invited to try the beta version of this but could not make any sense of the words it asked me to read: Longing, rusted, furnace, daybreak, seventeen, benign, nine, homecoming, one, freight car”

OK, now I’m gonna have to watch Captain America and the Winter Soldier again.

People are already doing it via other similar AI tools. They mine social media posts with videos that include the person's voice.

If that's possible.. The first thing you have to say is; Good morning!

Followed by: "we think your going to love this."

What are my chances of saying Aluminium in Jony Ive's voice?

I miss this!

Haha! Can relate.

I’m Australian and my step mum and siblings are from the US. I didn’t find out we said it differently until about 13.

I struggled for ages to say “aluminum”. I seriously couldn’t say it the American way.

I still say aluminium like Jony but just sound far less elegant due to a lack of a British accent

That's fine and dandy but what about a feature we have been asking for years. Placing icons anywhere on the home screen.

So if I’m bad at speaking in English, I practice the 15 min text a lot, will it speak in my voice with good pronunciation? That would be cool for video scripts if it will be possible to export the audio

I suspect the process will involve the speaker reading out specific phrases to build the database, rather than just being able to play back voice clips.
No need to suspect. This is exactly how the article describes it working.

Some of the comments in here…it’s almost like some of you didn’t read the article.
