I recently stood outside of my local Apple store and looked in an can see the current products. In one corner, Apple's latest flop: "Vision Pro" was on display without one customer looking at it. It is when it hit me, "That Apple has not come out with a new product that excites the public. And they have been riding this iPhone wave for too long."
It’s very depressing when you think of all the products Steve launched in his last 14 years to 2011 then compare that to what Tim Cook has launched in the last 14 years.

To be somewhat fair to Tim, the mobile markets have plateaued, and I think the golden age of phones are over.

If they are going to copy Android more & more, why not copy the Palm Pre OS. So many good intuitive things were in that short-lived product.

The only innovation left I can imagine for phones is a pop-out/fold-out Siri screen with advanced machine learning/LLM/agentic functionality. Like the voice mode dot in the ChatGPT app. Software isn't there yet.

I can imagine smart glasses/headsets replacing the smartphone long-term. Earpiece with a wrap-around "monocle", or two that magnetically connect at the bridge of the nose for a full pair of glasses. But miniaturization and power efficiency to do it are decades away, even if you can stream to the screen from a smart watch.

This post made me realise that I’m no longer excited by Apple software rumors and announcements. Until Apple does what it says it will, and when they say they will, I’m tuning out.

For me, it doesn’t help that Guo, and especially Gurman, keep popping out of their lair every day to make speculations. Yes, sure make some BIG guesstimates from time to time, but baseless guesses every single day is how I, and many others, got to the point of not caring much about Apple announcements

Apple should implement a Themes function, and let us choose from every iOS UI since the very first iOS/iPhone.
If you want that, why not choose Android. It’s got that covered even an iOS 18 theme. Together with a good working assistant and AI, it’s never been more tempting to switch.

absolutely not. low-contrast, made LESS legible/readable by layers of translucency, and made even worse by all touch targets looking similar/same by being mainly round/circular? What a nightmare. All drops in usability.
iOS7 made the os a lot less usable and readable. Flat made text literally blend in to backgrounds. No virtual buttons made interacting with apps and navigating frustrating. The calendar was made virtually useless after io7. Hopefully they will fix that mess.

I’m just going to assume this will be iOS Dumpster Fire so that I’m not too let down by all the bugs they’ll release with 19.0

If it changes so much that I'll have to relearn how the system works, then it might be the time to jump ship for a foldable android.
It's very unlikely it’ll go that far. Wouldn't you have to re-learn how an Android system works anyway?

The overwhelmingly negative sentiment in the comments section is a clear warning sign. If Apple’s Craig Federighi doesn’t deliver a game-changing iOS 19, the company risks significant long-term reputation damage that could erode user trust and loyalty. Can’t wait to push this beta to its absolute limits!

It seems like a poor time for a redesign. They should finish the AI features and then design the phone around AI. Eg hopefully things like writing tools wouldn’t feel like a hidden afterthought on Mac mail.

I actually carry both iPhone and Android daily. I don't want a replica launcher of iOS on my Android.
