iOS 19 is going to be flat design, which Apple has been using since 2013's iOS 7. Microsoft pionerred flat design, and Apple copied it from them. As Steve Jobs said, Microsoft has "no taste." Tim Cook has no taste, too, and that's precisely why he allowed Jony Ive to copy Microsoft's flat design. If Tim Cook really cared about GUI design, he would rehire the visionary Scott Forstall, purge every last pixel of flat design, and go back to iOS 6-style skeuomorphic design.

I've never been a fan of the current flat look of iOS. And I've never liked text being used as buttons; the hit points are always wonky. And Apple's color choices have been less than ideal (like using dark blue text on a black background). So I'm all for an OS revision.

As long as I can turn that transparency OFF.

I really really dislike the grey on grey on grey ... skinny fonts ... transparent effects ... monochrome ... etc type stuff that is permeating MacOS & iOS. Have to spend a few minutes on every new system to turn some things off or back to " normal " through accessibility settings. Doesn't fix some issues like with Finder, iTunes, etc ... though.

Man this **** is said before every new iOS release

And all we get is a buggy unstable release

Just look at how poor iOS 18 is
Where is the polish which iOS carried for all these years??
Stable as a rock for me. What bugs are you seeing? Are you sure they aren't on third party implementation?

If you dont like change, just say it. No need to beat around the bush.

The fact that you need to use accessibility settings is a clear sign of failure on the part of the UI/UX team. Poster above you also mentioned blue text on black background which is a crime for people with vision issues. Apple used to care DEEPLY about this stuff but money has really distracted them

I’m expecting the new design to be more visually bloated (less information density) than the current version. Can’t wait! /s

I'm not sure how I'll like the possible iOS 19 changes but clearly I can't even begin to say until I've actually played with it for a few weeks or more. So until then......

The OS is damaged by more than just the looks and the AI system. Even deep down, the software is buggy and unreliable. At least half the time when I’m completing a phone to phone transfer for someone (when they get a new phone), it freezes somewhere, or there’s some illogical 2FA that causes the phones to have to reset in order to complete the switch, and/or there’s inconsistency so not every transfer requires the same steps (i.e: it’ll ask some people to login to iCloud and not others), and only about half the time, a software update is required. It’s extremely frustrating to say the least. Can’t tell you how many times I wanted to sock Tim Cook in the face while completing this for someone.

Why is it that an Android transfer is simple? Samsung Smart switch works on most devices and doesn’t require complete software updates, logging into Samsung Cloud, doesn’t freeze, etc. It’s sooo much easier to transfer between Samsung and Android devices than iOS devices now.

Is there some reason you need to use an iPhone? Seems the best way to avoid these problems is to just avoid the phone that has them unless there's some key reason you need the iPhone.

I help customers when they buy any type of phone. I barely have a choice — it’s their choosing whether to get an Apple or an Android variant.

In the podcasts he’s been on this week, Gurman makes it sound a lot more like the transition from platinum to Aqua than iOS 6 to 7, especially for the Mac and iPad.

Almost begs the question, is the traditional Springboard’s and/or the Mac desktop’s days numbered?
Is the Mac title bar about to be replaced with the bottom bar that the VP has?
Alternatively, is the iPad finally going to switch to the traffic light method of closing the windows?
In all these UI interface redesigns, I hope Apple has been and will continue to listen to a wider variety of people who use their products, including people outside of those who work at Apple.
