The OS is damaged by more than just the looks and the AI system. Even deep down, the software is buggy and unreliable. At least half the time when I’m completing a phone to phone transfer for someone (when they get a new phone), it freezes somewhere, or there’s some illogical 2FA that causes the phones to have to reset in order to complete the switch, and/or there’s inconsistency so not every transfer requires the same steps (i.e: it’ll ask some people to login to iCloud and not others), and only about half the time, a software update is required. It’s extremely frustrating to say the least. Can’t tell you how many times I wanted to sock Tim Cook in the face while completing this for someone.

Why is it that an Android transfer is simple? Samsung Smart switch works on most devices and doesn’t require complete software updates, logging into Samsung Cloud, doesn’t freeze, etc. It’s sooo much easier to transfer between Samsung and Android devices than iOS devices now.
And the Samsung Smart switch from iOS to a Galaxy device is amazingly smooth. I pushed all my stuff from a 16 Pro Max to an S25 Ultra and was braced for the Apple software experience but it was just set and forget. Boom you're done.

The Apple Sports app menu is almost identical to the ios 19 mockups. Same frosted glass, floating look similiar to Vision Pro.

Apple Sports is a great example of the minimum viable product mentality pervading tech and sadly which has infested Apple. The app is awful, with no real customization options and everything hidden behind an awful interface.

I really hope this is not an example of what we can look forward to.

I can already hear it.. “this is the best transparency we’ve ever achieved” “clearly the best user experience in history”
It'll be the new implementation of multitasked apps on iOS and iPadOS: "You can see five other apps at the same time through all the layers of transparency, with no need for multiple windows!"

“We are stacked to bring this to our users”… and everyone “damn, they took their time but they delivered it as it’s supposed to be” 😂

Stable as a rock for me. What bugs are you seeing? Are you sure they aren't on third party implementation?
My sister on the iPhone 16PM

Has said multiple camera bugs and glitch (where the app is just frozen)

I’m on the iPhone 15 Plus and i have seen stuttering while viewing notifications

These issues werent a thing in iOS 12 or something

Same here. I moved from a 13 pro to a Pixel 9 Pro in January and it was super simple. I thought I was in for an afternoon of cleanup and losing a bunch of stuff but I was shocked at how simple it was. I even learned a lot about Gemini during the first hours of use by having it organize files and photos with basic voice prompts in ways that were always a PITA in iOS. I’ve been using iPhones only for 20 years and the switch as been very easy and totally worth it.

Sounds like they will mainly give you reasons to need the camera and microphone on at all times. Like the glass of the windows will have reflections or move depending on how you are looking at the device. Nice looking but again, just more reasons to have your device look and listen to you at all times. Not to mention how much you'll use it to edit what you say and manage your digital life. There was a time when these devices replaced the need to own other more expensive and bulky devices, now its just how much military r&d projects can they fit on one device.

I like transparency and I think Vision OS looks decent. My issue with Apple for quite awhile is not how their software looks, it's how it works. They don't have good design goals and it makes it harder to use their software

In the podcast I linked above, he basically says that from this point forward, the iPad and Mac interface will look “identical”.
That would be an absolute nightmare. It's been over a decade and they still haven't figured out how to do multitasking on iPad in a user friendly way. But I also doubt Apple would be able to pull off such a big change with their lack of focus and dedication. Maybe it will be just a new coat of paint

"iOS 19 to Have Some of the 'Biggest' Design Changes in iPhone's History"

Full blown rotten fish.

Waiting to see the changes. Being visual changes and not functional, expecting to have access to it on day one. Hopefully not many iPhones are left out from getting the update this year.

I can customise my Android a million ways if I want, so a new look to iOS wouldn’t be my priority. Instead improve basic functionality such as providing a universal swipe back gesture and a decent keyboard, even just a number row, how difficult can it be !! I don’t know if it’s the latest beta I’m running but I can’t even move the cursor within a word most of the time to edit it which is crazy.

Also, give alternatives to Safari, I want full Firefox with extensions, specifically ublock. And start opening up the file system, though I won’t be holding my breath on that.

A trillion dollar company faffing about just to come up with a new theme is utterly ridiculous, there has to be more to it than that because if that’s the limit of their ambition then there’s no hope for Apple and good riddance.

When Steve Jobs first introduced OSX with Aqua UI, he said it was so good you could lick it. I wonder if this major UI makeover will be on the same level, impact wise.

It will certainly make an impact if they are going all in on the glass…

Interface design is like a pendulum. It swings one way, then comes right back. And repeats 😂

To be honest, I prefer simple interfaces. Quick and efficient and some of them are timeless.

Interfaces that are busy and full of transparency don’t age well.
Swing back to what? Skeuomorphism? It would be funny if that happened but I would actually welcome it.

Well, more graphical gimmicks like transparency mean more battery consumption for pleasing the eye.
I would prefer they first fix iOS 18 before starting to hallucinate about iOS 19 though...
It does not please the eye. It will not please the eye. I want to see what is on screen, no pretend I am holding up see through tissue paper with something written on it. Transparency be damned.

It is when it hit me, "That Apple has not come out with a new product that excites the public. And they have been riding this iPhone wave for too long."
“Apple has not come out with a new product that excites the public.” Period? I believe you didn’t finish that sentence because I know you didn’t mean period. You meant since… the iPhone?
Well if you look at Apple’s biggest successes—the Mac, the iPod, and the iPhone—they’re all basically just the progressive personalization of the computer/internet, with the iPod just being a stop gap precursor to the iPhone. (Also you can throw iPad in there, which filled the personalization progression hole between laptop and phone, even though it came out after iPhone.) That trail has pretty much ended with the iPhone. There have been some smaller but still big successes like the AirPods and Watch, but those are just accessories that take a few select offloaded functions of the main products. The only way the trail of personalization can continue is by wearing the computer or directly integrating it with our brains. The tech doesn’t exist for the latter yet (also not sure people want that), and the tech for the former is still very lacking for a mainstream product because most people demand very lightweight inconspicuous wearables. The Vision Pro is the best attempt at a wearable computer that Apple could achieve with today’s tech. It serves a useful function but only for a niche market, and for the rest it serves just as a foretaste of what could come, but not for awhile in a desirable form factor. So I see no reason one could expect a huge hit like the iPhone any time soon. It was a very specific progression of successes. But at the same time, no other competitor company really seems to be exciting the public either.

Apple, please - whatever you plan to do with iOS 19 - do not use circular icons.
Don't make our iPhones look more and more like Android phones.

Someone somewhere just said:

"... rounded, circular app icons that reflect Apple’s evolving design language and provide a more unified look."

How is that? Will all the widgets also become circular? To unife the look?
Rounded rectangular widgets and circular icons just don't look good side by side.
Will the app folders also have a circular shape? One big circle with 9 little circles inside, for example? ;)

I believe we all are pretty happy with our squircle icons - so focus on something else, please.

Thank you.
