Display resolution (not display size) was revealed. I’m personally a fan of using words as they are defined. It helps avoid confusion. Came to the article expecting dimensions, but only got horizontal and vertical pixel counts.

I'm hoping for the opposite and there being a slightly smaller Ultra.

Perhaps 2 sizes (46mm and 51mm)?
I understand and get what you're asking for...
What might not work in favor of a smaller case is the 100m water resistance rating, there's a lot of pressure the watch is exposed to, thus the case size. Also, I am not aware of "small" dive watches though I could be wrong about that.
Always, 5 or so more weeks and we'll have facts ...

And same short battery and no NFC for opening door…
Battery on the AWU1 has always worked fine for me, simply putting it on a MagSafe nightstand display at night. Every day since the AWU1 first came out.

That said, I certainly do see the value add of more battery for extended time away from the grid.

Apple is totally lost in the watch market and doesn’t know what to do. Shrinking the bezels is just another way for them to claim this model as “new.”
Lost? Apple jumped into watches and now sells more watches than all of Switzerland. And personally I love the AWU1 as is, so any imporvements are just icing on an already excellent cake.

I doubt there will be a blood pressure sensor. Just a 'too good to be true' sort of thing. I'm not sure how this even got in the conversation, but who knows.

I would say about a 10% chance of that even being feasible.

Please don't bring logic into the conversation.

"You know Garmin has two weeks battery life...TWO Weeks"

Well yeah, but Garmin is barely smart. Two weeks isn't amazing for a rudimentary interface, limited functions, and clunky UI. Maybe run full-featured watchOS on that Garmin and coming back with battery life update, then we're talking.

Honestly I was really surprised to see how large the bezels were on the AWU when I first got it. They have a lot of room to make the black edges go all the way to the case.
you do realize that the watch is rated for 100m water resistance, down there, a lot of pressure on your watch ...

There have always been some small dive watches. Most SCUBA divers do want a bigger display underwater, but "dive watches" get worn for lots of non-SCUBA usages: swimming, incidental water exposure or just because some buyers like the look. And even for SCUBA usages the dive watch is often just a backup to some other device like a dive computer.

I would love to see the Ultra in a slightly smaller case size. It's ridiculously large on my wrists.
Do you imagine how awful that would look like considering the thickness of the thing? Same reason it won't happen. Apple sells the Apple Watch Ultra as the Apple Watch with "ultra long battery life" and it needs its huge volume to accommodate the large battery.

I know I was being facetious. Seriously, that is what people are complaining about and expecting.

This is interesting. It looks like just a 3% increase in screen size, if the pixel density remains the same? I mocked up a 3% increase here, if the case were to remain the same size, and the difference in bezels is barely noticeable to me.

Huh? It‘s very clearly noticeable.

My guess is that yes, Apple could make "Ultra in a slightly smaller case size." Small Seiko dive watches have been made for years, and my guess is that an Ultra could indeed be made in a slightly smaller case size.

Earth shattering rumor.

I picked up a left-over 2023 on Amazon at a good discount when the 2024 came out. Love the battery life, each morning I'm at 25-40% depending on the day before's activities, charge to ~75% while in the shower. Battery health is at 98% at almost 11 months.
