In this image 1) the total bezels (glass + metal) are basically identical and 2) the 10 is scaled as it is IRL 1 mm larger vertically than the S9.

The black border (bezel) on the Series 10 is larger than it is on the Series 9. I never said it took up more screen, I said it was larger, and it is.

I'm just happy to see that they will continue to make the Ultra, so there'll be a replacement for my AWU1 years from now.
The Apple Watch Ultra 1 is a great product. The durability (in terms of the screen, titanium casing and battery) makes it feel more like a real watch, and less like tech jewelry. I was skeptical due to the high cost, but after 3 years it has delivered enough value to justify that price.

For me to consider a new one all it would take is updated components (i.e. the new SIP), but there is no rush as the first generation is still working great.

Well, in that case I guess you'll wait a lot. Apple seems pretty comfortable with the idea of having to charge your watch every 24 to 48 hours. I'm not sure they'll invest a lot of effort in increasing the battery life, unless they run out of new ideas for their annual update.
Haha yea I figured that a while back and bought an Epix pro 2 sapphire. Rock solid smart watch to date, 3 weeks per charge!

I have the Ultra 1 and as long as there is no new health sensor, I won’t upgrade. Battery life, speed, design - all is great for me still. So I don’t need a 3% larger display, but blood pressure or blood sugar sensor would be sick.

I have an OG Day 1 AWU with functional Blood Oxygen Sensor. Do I want to give that functionality up.... not necessarily. How many times have I used that feature.... Less than 3. Ive got my battery set to only charge to 75 or 80% but it still lasts me the day. I would love a Black AWU (yes i know the 2 comes in Black), but at this point, im not going to spend my money on old tech. My biggest gripe (and its 100% my fault) is that i cant easily use things like Apple Pay as I have two full sleeves of color tattoos, so if i wanted to use Apple Pay or do anything that requires you to have a pin on the watch, i would have to unlock it every time i needed to interact with it, which is very inconvenient, so i just dont use those features. I just wish they would figure THAT part out more than anything. A bigger, brighter screen is always welcome in my book as well.

Considering how they handled the Blood O2 fiasco, I'd be skeptical of ANY new sensors they add sticking around. The way they just rolled over and took it just opened the door for other patent trolls to just pounce.

Honestly I was really surprised to see how large the bezels were on the AWU when I first got it. They have a lot of room to make the black edges go all the way to the case.
Well... leave some titanium between the glass and the edge please. Not a fan of cracked sapphire 😅

Shrinking bezels always makes a device look more modern. I'm all for it. Although I just got the Series 10 Titanium, I'm hoping they'll hold off for another year before removing the huge bezels on the Series 10. If they do it in the 11, I'll be jealous as it's the one thing I don't love on the Series 10, although I don't notice it much with most watch faces.
HUGE bezels? 😱

I have a pin on my watch and the only interaction i have to do to use Apple Pay is to double tap the side button.

If you have a pin it only requires it to be typed in after taking the watch off.

Apple is totally lost in the watch market and doesn’t know what to do. Shrinking the bezels is just another way for them to claim this model as “new.”
Bezel shrink and better battery is by far my two biggest wishes! The Ultra is actually the one Apple Watch model that would really need smaller bezels to get bigger display inside same case.

I never use coloured watch faces for the same reason. The bezels look very big with those

It's because tattoos can cause wrist detection to fail.

Short battery? My Ultra 2 lasts two days. That's a day longer than my old series 6. How long do you think the battery should be able to last at the current technology level and all the function packed into the Ultra 3?
I just finished a diving trip and used my Apple Watch Ultra for the dives. Each day had 3 Open water dives of roughly 45 min per dive. After the 3rd dive my watch was usually down to 15% and by 5pm the same day the battery was 0%.

So yes, the battery is short if you use the watch for activities. Like things the watch was designed to be used.

So what's your secret? You always charged to 80%?

I don't think I have a secret, I think it's just luck of the draw and battery drain being non-linear. But I do keep optimized charging on, although I don't have a regular charge pattern, I just charge it when it's convenient. I do make a loose attempt to keep it in the 30% to 80% range, but it's a best effort thing more than anything.

I would love to see the Ultra in a slightly smaller case size. It's ridiculously large on my wrists.

I'm hoping for the opposite and there being a slightly smaller Ultra.

Perhaps 2 sizes (46mm and 51mm)?

Maybe the AWU isn't for you then? It's large I assume because of having to package the extra components required for the extra functionality that makes it an ultra device, and not just for Marketing (where a larger case for the sake of a larger case might look more rugged and wild and extreme and therefore appeal even more to the rugged and wild and extreme outdoor adventurer that the watch is designed for...)

Complaining about the AWU size vs. the standard AW is kind of like complaining that the 16" MBP can't be packaged more like a 13" MBA, no?

Very likely I'll be picking this up. Love my Ultra 1 but the battery life is degrading.

Have you gotten a quote for battery replacement? I might upgrade my AW8 to an AWU3 but am bummed how quickly the battery does fade in the watch, unless a replacement every few years isn't too expensive. Isn't battery replacement free if you have Apple Care+ once the battery health is less than 80%?
