It's today's build. Apple has the ability to flash OS updates while still in the box.

if there is an new "emergency" build that is released between now and Friday, that is what will be flashed.
That process has to be done manually and only 5 or 6 devices at the same time! And only at Apple Stores.

There are millions of iPhones leaving the factorys in china and India at that moment!

We’re not really getting the tsunami of app updates that we initially got with iOS 7.
It was a different era, and devs have been growing tired of the yearly churn to keep apps updated with whatever breakage every new OS version brings.

Which version is likely to the on the new phones? Presumably the RC? If so, then would installing today's release on top of the RC then require the new phone to be updated prior to transfer from the current phone?
It‘ll only be an issue if you install a hypothetical 26.1 beta before migrating to your new phone.
The new devices will ship with the RC build from last week.

All iPhones releasing on Friday will be todays build# 23A341.
All devices releasing on friday are already well under way to being prepared for shipment and thus have the RC build from last week flashed.

This doesn’t work outside of official Apple Stores, as far as I’m aware. Most iPhones are in transit now for people to get by the end of the week. Be sure that not all resellers have the capacity and the ability to install the new build while the devices are still in the box.

Also keep in mind there’s still a good amount of counties where iPhones are sold via third parties, not official Apple Stores.

I stand corrected. Thank you. I knew Apple could, but forgot it was only for Apple Stores.

Either way, correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't it still require a software update when you turn it on first time. "update software". Technically speaking, todays build day 1.

The only one so far is Edge, and it’s only the new keyboards. Liquid Glass nowhere in sight.

Edit: I meant Chrome. And it’s the TestFlight beta version of Chrome, not the public release.

It’s not been a lot, but I’ve had a few. Things, Todoist. Bitwarden is a TestFlight beta. Etsy has a new non-Liquid Glass design.

The iPad keyboard just got broken even worse in the final

Hmm, somehow the visual bugs seem worse in this final release than on the RC. Noticing more app icon redraws on my 16 Plus, as well as more flickering on widgets when tapping them and closing the apps. Hope iOS 26.1 tackles this as a high priority.

They didn't even update the Apple apps, like Pages, Numbers, or the Apple Store app. :(
