Seems like everyone is copying everyone.
Progress through further development.

But don't use that dreaded word "copy“.
Use Steve Jobs' words: "We weren't the first with this idea, but we'll do it best“.
(From the keynote speech on the iPhone 3Gs about copy and paste)

And whether that's true... well, "the best" is relative.

People want this?

Must just be me, but I use my phone as a tool to get things done. I don't want shapes or highlights moving around dynamically or having much transparency at all.
it's not stopping you from getting anything "done".

for a major update, it really isnt that in your face.

yeah it's almost back to Aero but with more.
and you can tone it down or turn off if you dont like it.
a choice you didnt have back when Aero was around.

seems the more options you give people, the more issues and complaints you get ;)

I was on Windows back in the day when Microsoft started going the flat design route and then Apple adopted it and I wasn't mad at it because they put their own spin on it. But lately it seems that it's not about being influenced or a design trend, they just straight up copy what Apple does without putting any effort in.

Design trends are a fine, but software can look and feel an endless amount if ways, so it's sad that designers are not allowed to explore their own creativity.

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has taken some inspiration from Apple's Liquid Glass design language for its latest operating system update, OriginOS 6. Unveiled this week, OriginOS 6 has the same rounded buttons and translucent glass look as iOS 26.

In a demo video, a Vivo smartphone features an interface that could be easily mistaken for iOS 26. There's a Liquid Glass clock, Control Center, squircle icons, glass-like rounded buttons, translucent app folders and dock, translucent notifications, and even wallpapers that shift with a 2D to 3D effect like Apple's Spatial Scenes.

There is no mistaking the Liquid Glass design influence even though Vivo references water when describing the operating system. "With OriginOS 6, every swipe, scroll, and tap flows like never before. No lags. No stutters. Just effortless motion built for the way you move," reads some of the marketing material for the update.

Vivo is a Chinese smartphone maker that sells its devices in China, India, and other countries. Most Vivo smartphones are not available for purchase in the United States, but Vivo recently received certification for the Vivo X300 FE, which it will sell in the U.S.

I hope that Apple will start copying some PC manufacturers and start offering LED screens on Mac Books, 32GB RAM and 512GB HDD as base for less than $1000. I have an ASUS Zen Book which offered all of that 3 Years ago for $1000 so I am not comparing the newer models which are miles more advanced as in terms of screen, ram, hdd and connectivity.

I think what these phone manufacturers forget is that it is not just the look and feel of the OS but the integration with the ecosystem. I find Android phones taken on their own to be excellent products but they do not work with anything else I own (which is, admittedly mainly Apple but I have a number of other smart house, camera and other product integrations). So making it look like iOS is not even 20% of the story, but how everything else and how they work together. Which is precisely what Apple want to hear.

We are long long way from devices which integrate with the world of system products and services. We live in a world of proprietary systems solutions and until that changes we are stuck with what we have today and I am condemned to using an iPhone even if I wanted to use another product.

As an aside the big issues with other attempts to provide generic system solutions is that they are used to sell and market stuff constantly(constant and invasive advertising) in order to monetize the investment (think Amazon, Google and of course Meta etc.).

This is a genius move from apple!

Develop the worst, least functional & usable yet most battery intensive design ever… get competitors to copy it & ruin their phones whilst destroying the batteries of all iphones below 17 & force an early upgrade.

Tim cook you bloody genius. Lol
If you ever wanted an example of ‘if your friends jumped off a cliff would you follow them?’

1000000% true. It's the worst iOS version in terms of usability in years.

I’m surprised that companies decide to make blatant copies of such solutions while refining them so poorly. In this demo the physics and dynamics of the elements are almost nonexistent - look at those droplets of water running down the leaf. It looks like an animation made by an amateur Blender user after a few tutorials.

Well, Apple copyed Microsoft first.

But let's have some cross cultural knowledge sharing here. Asian countries, China especially, has a different cultural and social view on "copying" and "fake", for thousands of years. We can't change that by trying to ridicule them for it. We also do it the other way around. But...sometimes this copying is...it's quite "overt".
