Let’s say DB5 comes out today. Is there precedent for DB6 also coming out only 5 days later, or is it more likely to come out a week later if DB5 comes out today/tomorrow?

Why’s that weird?
Half way through the cycle, things are stable enough to introduce say, going on device now and coming off 100% CC… could throw up some issues or something as simple as a critical security patch they’ve found from testing in the wild.
It could be anything. I wouldn’t worry.
Exactly. Beta 4 is where new features typically stop with beta 5 and forward would be optimization focused.
So there's plenty of time for polishing without delaying the next release.

Hopefully they will start adding battery optimisation tweaks. iOS 27 is supposed to have even better battery life. My 16Pro hasn’t noticed anything yet lol.

Cobold's post about kernel dates deserved more attention than it got, because it reframes the whole wait.
If beta 4's kernel was built on 14 July and shipped on the 20th as an f compile, that is six passes in under a week. Apple is not sitting on a finished build two or three betas ahead of us. They are compiling right up to the wire and throwing most of it away.
Which makes the letter a rough proxy for how much grief a build gave them on the way out. gtmead09 was half joking about wanting A and B builds by the RC, but that is exactly the shape you would want to see this late in the cycle. By that logic a beta 5 that turns up two days late as a c would be a better sign than one that arrived bang on Monday as another f. Worth checking the build string rather than the date when it does land.
No build has ever arrived faster for being refreshed at, sadly.

On the beta 5 versus secretly beta 6 question, the good news is we will actually be able to see it.
The label Apple sticks on the developer portal is marketing. The build string is the honest record. Beta 4 was 24A5390f, so the seed number is 5390 and the f is the compile count. Those two things move independently and they tell you different things. The letter tells you how much grief that particular build gave them on the way out the door. The number tells you where it sits in the lineage.
So if DB5 lands as 24A54 something with a low letter, that is a completely ordinary next step and the delay was just a wobble. If the seed number jumps a long way past that, mikelets456 is probably onto something and a build got binned somewhere along the way.
Worth reading the string before reading the changelog, either way.
