This sounds like me asking for a rise as I have less money due to more bills to pay, but rather than give me more money, they just print BIGGER notes, so the same notes I already have look bigger to me.

4.1 Beta Software

Just installed the software, does not seem to fix the antenna issue. :(

Hahahahahahaha.

But seriously, I feel really bad for iP4 users.

Why? I am thoroughly enjoying my iPhone 4 and have yet to drop a call. Like most people who bought one, I can replicate the bars dropping, but it results in zero loss of quality. I don't use a case and have in fact been going out of my way to hold it on the bottom left just to see what happens.

OK, I bought an iPhone4 on the first day it was available...

and I have YET to have any problems with call reception!
What the hell is all of this about, and why has it become a nationwide issue?
so far as I can tell, a few cranks who probably work for Nokia are posting flames about their competition, and the rest of the world is eating it up.
I'll repeat, I've had my iPhone4 for almost a month now, and use it daily, with NO, ZERO, NADA, NILL, NOT ONE iOta of signal problems!

HELLO PEOPLE!!!

The big news here is the MODEM UPDATE!!! The bars are just aesthetic, but the modem update could make a REAL difference in terms of reception. It will be interesting to see if testing confirms an improvement or not.

If someone could explain to me what exactly the modem update does...help a newbie out....

*Sigh*

Go and find the release from Apple regarding the signal meter update. They never once mentioned that the update would fix the antenna issue, they've not even admitted that their is an antenna issue, so why would they say the software update fixes it?

People read the release about the issue with the way the iPhone, apparently, calculates the signal strength and put 2 + 2 together and came up with 5. They then got into a lather of excitement and built this software update up to be something it was never going to be and never was.

Your post is EXACTLY the type of over the top ranting that I expect to fill these forums in the coming month when 4.1 goes official via iTunes and those who expected miracles from an update Apple never once said was a fix for the antenna issue, go berserk and begin venting.

thanks for your permission to be upset that i waited 5 hours in line for product that is suppose to work correctly out of the box...oh wait i wonder if im handling the box correctly... they have faulty hardware cold hard fact...

oh wait this just in:

Howdy! Just wondering... how long have you worked for Apple?

Hahahahahahaha.

Why? The vast majority of users see no meaningful impact in the day-to-day operation of their phones. Demonstratable quirks are valid concerns, but unless it affects real-world usage it's a non-issue.

Have you seen the many videos out there? I loaded BBC online on my iPhone, held the phone firmly in my left hand, not too tight and within about 5 seconds the signal dropped out and I got the "No internet connection" pop up. Funny it happened with both my phones, my fathers phone and both my friends. Also funny that my 3GS worked fine in all scenarios.

edit: Ridley, it affects me.

Impressive

I am truly impressed by the number of Engineers on this thread this afternoon.

So the software will show the phone going from 2 to zero bars instead of 5 to 2 bars...

LOL...

:D

The theory goes... if you have 5 bars now with the update, holding the phone in a death grip will likely not drop a call because you have a very strong signal. The signal will drop, sure, but there should be enough strength left to carry on conversations and other things. However, if on the new update, only two bars are shown, then you already have a poor signal (almost non-existent) and doing the death-grip thing will almost assuredly drop a call.

This:

"Early reports indicate no change in the reception loss experienced by some users. "

Should read:

"Early reports indicate no change in the reception loss experienced by MOST users."

Lets not sugar coat it.

There is no evidence at all it is most or even many (relative to 2,000,000+ units sold). If it was most or even many, there would be return lines longer than launch day at every Apple store.

Instead the only lines you see are people lining up whenever they hear the rumor the store may have a shipment of new phones.

What day did you call Applecare? What did you tell them your problem was? Did they schedule your exchange in an Apple store? How many phones have you exchanged and had be unusable? You claim you have a problem with a device you spent 5 hours in line for but have not taken the 30 seconds it takes to schedule a phone call with Apple? I just received a call back in 45 seconds from Apple care. Man those 2 million people with completely useless iphone 4s must really have them swamped.

BINGO! And we're not the only ones!
