I know it's not possible to discuss every app, but are apps in general working OK on 4.2? I have the option to install the beta but don't want to if it means the bulk of apps or other iPad functions aren't working at least reasonably well. TIA

I've tried a handful, well more than handful, in the last day. I only found one app not working, AirVideo. It would open but I had troubles afterward. Now granted I didn't try to get to the problem so it could have been my end but the other ones I tried worked fine.

I'm curious if these betas do expire? I am currently on 3.2.2 so if I updated to the 4.2 beta and it expired, I'd be screwed as their is no way to downgrade without SHSH saved in Cydia- which I don't have, I never jailbroke my iPad.

On top of that I am leaving the states in a few weeks for 6 weeks, definitely need the iPad to be operational as I won't have another computer with me. Does anyone know if iTunes would "see" the GM 4.2 update when it is released in November, even if I was out of the country? If so I may be able to update from a friends laptop while away.

Just want to make sure their is some longevity here before I do this beta update. I'm fine with some bugs, etc. but having the OS expire completely after I leave would be bad news.

You can simply restore using 3.2.2 But once 3.2.2 is installed, you will get stuck in Restore Mode. Don't worry, you can use RecBoot to kick you out of Restore Mode then you're all good.

Crashes when adding MobileMe account.

Did you add your MobileMe account using iTunes or entering manually?

So to get back I would just option+restore to 3.2.2 and when it finishes and get's locked in recovery mode, I use RecBoot to kick it out? That's it?

Glad to have 3G account access back. Now I can bump my plan up to 2gb if I push it close at Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

What's not working:
  • NYT Crosswords
  • SkyGrid
  • ABC Player

My Netflix didn't work after beta 2. I deleted it, reinstalled it, and then relaunched it and now it works fine again.

As for the apps I've seen that aren't working, they're ones I can live without for now (I get my crossword fix from "Crosswords" app and USA Today app).

I also have the weird Settings --> Sound lockup too. At least there are other ways to adjust the sound via the hardware toggle.

I haven't tested every single app since the update last night, but so far things seem quite snappy and stable.

Yup!!!

Also, after you download and unzip RecBoot, there will be two apps. Use the one that says "EXIT ONLY".

Restored from beta one to 3.2.1 a week back and never got the stuck in recover mode. The application also doesn't seem to work on windows 7. Not sure why.

I think getting stuck in recovery mode is an iPad 3G only bug. It gets stuck in recovery mode because the baseband cannot be downgraded, and the iPad doesn't recognize the combination of the 3.2.2 OS with the 4.* baseband.

Anyone still on beta 1? Am I going mad or was there the ability to disable the picture frame in settings? I'm sure there was, but there isn't in beta 2.

Seems like the saved state of apps clear when the iPad is locked after having them open previously.

Just FYI, I'm not a Developer. I bought my way in, gave some guy $10 bucks to add my UDID.

Using iTunes 10.1b5 and started fresh, no restore from back-up.

Update 1:

iOS 4.2 Beta 2 Clean Restore went fine. Now installing everything else.

Update 2:

Finished Syncing and now out into the real world. =D

Update 3:

"Early Edition" does not work
Can't seem to locate my iPad using "Find My iPhone" App. Worked on 3.2.2
"Implode" does not work
"Sound" settings does not work

Daylite Touch and Billings Pro Touch?

How are Daylite Touch and Billings Pro Touch working with iOS 4.2 Beta 2?

Seems to be running well so far! One thing I noticed was that the multitouch interaction with photos in Photos app is a little laggy. For example if you try to pinch to enlarge a photo, it takes a second for the photo to react to the user input.

"Pandora" crashed, it has never done that before. Had to go into App Switching to shut it down. I guess no Virtual Memory in 4.2?

I cant seem to get air print to work on my pc.
Have itunes 10.1 beta installed and airprint it checked off in preferences.
I have a shared out printer. When on an iPad with 4.2 beta 2 i click print, select printer and it scans for one and says no printers found.

Doesn't it have to be an HP printer that is AirPrint compatible? From HP's website:

.
Which HP printers work with Apple's Airprint?

All HP ePrint enabled printers will work with this solution worldwide. Available today are the HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One series, HP Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One and HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer series. Additional products for home and office will be available this fall and later this year.

I'm curious of their reasoning to bring printing to an iPad but only for HP printing devices? Maybe no o e but Apple knows but that's kind of dumb. I have a top of the line, new, Lexmark. And it won't work? Ugh.

On beta 2, if you go to Settings > General > Sounds the settings.app crashes after a few seconds so you can't do anything with sounds.

From apples web site:

"“AirPrint is Apple’s powerful new printing architecture that matches the simplicity of iOS—no set up, no configuration, no printer drivers and no software to download,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to an HP ePrint printer or to a printer shared on a Mac or PC.”

AirPrint is designed to support a wide range of printers from entry level inkjet printers to office laser printers. Additionally, iOS 4.2 devices can print to printers shared through a Mac® or a PC. iOS 4.2 compatible HP printers this fall include the HP Photosmart, Officejet, Officejet Pro and LaserJet Pro series ePrint enabled printers."

So it seams as long as the printer is shared on the PC/MAC you can print to it OR you can print directly to HP ePrint printers (i'll try it a home, i picked one up a few weeks ago)with no computer
