Ya... this is far better than beta 1. I'm happy to see the snappy performance. Apparently GoodReader supports multi-tasking as it remembers where you were the second you switch back to it [not displaying green screen like it would in 3.2]. I'm just happy my wifi is working :)

Has any tried iOS 4.2 beta 2 with magazines like sports illustrated? I had to downgrade from 4.2 beta 1 because it was causing various magazines and the wall street journal to render very slowly.

Are you using "Zinio"? Noticed that also.

I agree. I think putting this stuff in a subforum is a dumb idea.

I agree - Peace mentioned that iOS discussion should be discussed in main forum and this is moved to sub - forum. Mods.. there? Move this back to main forum.

Hi Guys

I have à little question.

I am in THE states now and using à AT&T sim in my iPad.
Only when i updated to beta1 the AT&T menu item under celuar data was gone (so i downgraded my iPad to 3.2.2 because i have to know how mutch data i have left)

Can annybody here please check for me if THE AT&T menu item is back in beta2 ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's back.

Unofficial update from beta 1 to 2? Any luck?

I've been reading about some owners downloading the 4.2 beta and installing it without developer accounts. Has anyone updated from the first beta to the second beta successfully without the developer account?

Also, does anyone know if this can be applied to the iPhone 4 too or is it only iPad?

Ok kids it's back in the main thread. This was moved during the onslaught of iOS 4.2b2. It was also about using it on the iPad.

We have created a new sub-forum for help, tips and troubleshooting. If you have some kind of question like that please use that forum. Especially if it's about iOS for the iPad. No matter what the version is.

Let's keep this thread just about general stuff. A good example of what not to do is a quick bursts of posts about the moving of this thread. Know what I mean ? ;)

Thanks !

And. I think iOS 4.2b2 is nice. :)

There are 7 versions of 4.2

iP3G
iP3Gs
iP4
iPod Touch 2G thru 4G
iPad

Downloads in Safari

Was this in beta1? Click a zip file download in Safari and I get the option to open the file in GoodReader. Works like a charm. Is it a new feature or just a very iPad-friendly website?

iOS 4.2 beta 2: 64GB 3G ctrl+updated from 3.2.2

Not sure but in 3.2.2 you could open a zip file from email in Goodreader. So I would guess no it's not new.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Understood, but this is from a straight link in Safari. I was under the impression that Safari on iPad would not 'support/permit' file downloads...

Works for me too. Very cool. !!

Damn. Everyone seems to be able to have the beta installed, without developer access. Hm. Jelous much? Yes! I need the folders ;)

Just tried an .mpg from Megaupload. No dice.

I followed this exact path, I'm not a developer either, and beta2 is working well for me. Just remember to option+update via iTunes, NOT restore.

Just did this as well, can confirm it works great (no developer account and not registered my iPad anywhere with apple).

Did anyone find a solution to the sound prefs? I really need to get rid of that keyboard click sound

I have never thought to ask this but I am a registered developer and not for ipad but if I do install this on it and later on decide to sale the ipad is it always locked as a developer ipad or can whoever gets it continue on with regular updates? Funny thing is my wife always gets my old iphone so I dont worry about it cause she hates the ipad.

In the iOS Provisioning Portal on the developer website you can add up to 100 devices per year. Any devices which are no longer required can be removed. If you remove your iPad's UDID from your list it will no longer be registered as a developer device. I've done this recently with an iPhone 3GS which I sold.

So whoever has it next will have no problems then with it updating with reqular software releases correct.

Guess you'll have to wait for Beta 3 which hopefully will come out in another two weeks from now. Then I hope Beta 4/GM will come out late October to catch the Nov. release date.

I haven't experienced any battery degradation in either beta yet. Only thing that chews my battery up is Pocket Frogs, and that's probably because I'm always playing it. :D

I'll give it a good, hard test this weekend and see how it holds up.

Interesting that you can get to the 3G account button but still no access to APN settings. There are some bugs fixed, but still lots of third party issues and the preferences app is very crash prone. I also wouldn't agree with those saying it's so much faster than beta 1. I don't see much difference in performance, I think the 3.2.2 performance is better.
