At least they're taking the time to fix it. Better fixed than broken-- they know how much of a PR mess that would be.

That said, I hope the patent issue regarding shared printers for airprint is worked on-- in the meantime I'm just going to continue with my "hacked" implementation.

Apple wouldn't give a beta of it cause it doesn't have an app store. The only reason they have pub betas is to get devs apps ready.

I was informed that in order for full airplay (meaning audio AND video) that an AppleTV 2 iOS update would be necessary. They have given beta's for iTunes 10/10.6.5/4.2 as all these beta's/updates are necessary for the new AirPrint and AirPlay feature sets to function. However video from my iDevice to my AppleTV 2 only works for music while it should also work for video. Thoughts?

I have the GM on mine and had the described problem at a b&b we stayed at last week. I had assumed the establishment had a crappy router, but I guess not.

It has been working fine at home with the Airport Extreme. I wonder if iTunes will allow me easily upgrade to the new GM once Apple have fixed the bug, or if I'll have to piss about downloading it and doing it all myself again.

who cares? this is not the a long a waited final part for a movie, or for a game, or the release of a new apple Hardware, is just one of the many updates apple has made and will make to one of their devices. Sorry but don't see the big news.

This is annoying.

The iPad SHOULD have shipped with iOS 4.x. Since getting my iPhone 4, I've used my iPad less and less and less because of the lack of multi-tasking and non-working EQ.

And even though I have no use for them, the iPad should have debuted with dual cameras and "FaceTime". But Apple kept that for the iPhone 4 to drive its sales and for a second generation iPad, leaving those of us who bought the original iPad out in the cold without features that it should have had from the start.

I agree but let's face it, it's not like you didn't knew the iPad wasn't shipping with iOS 4 and didn't have camera when you bought it...

Absolutely.

It would be foolish for Apple to rush this out.

Take your time, get it right.

Say what you want, but I think Apple has truly stretched it's self out to thin. They've been having numerous hardware and software problems since March.

I think you'll find that in the last 300-600 years or so the word "itself" has come into popular use. Interesting use of the apostrophe, though.

And although I don't find the reported problems all that important or widespread, you might be right. Haste makes waste. If the doofii on these sites can just dial back their sense of righteous indignation over perceived slights because of ship dates (case in point this thread), Apple may not feel such pressure to move things out before they're ready. November 16th, December 16th, who gives a crap? iPad still works great as is.

well itunes is needed for some apps because some apps use file copying and other things right? tho i do think the atv will get a 4.2 update and have bug fixes and full airplay.

Well, at least theres a decent reason for this delay. It does get a bit annoying using the GM of 4.2

Numerous? It's a wonder any of my Apple products work at all I guess. The # of issues are typical. I know of no tech company that releases stellar bug free products.

You are equating highly publicized problems to being higher number in a given year. Apple has become a high profile company. Everything it does is examined w/ a microscope and magnified 50x in the popular press (not just geek sites and forums). But that doesn't mean it didn't push out buggy s/w or h/w in the past. It's just that fewer people cared to put it on the megaphone.

And I'm unsure how Apple is being stretched thin. All of Apple's hardware, save a couple iPods, runs on OS X (Server) or iOS. That seems like the definition of streamlined efficiency.

Did I miss when Apple announced the 4.2 update was coming out today (11/12)?

Everyone seems to be saying this is a delayed update, but I don't remember 11/12 ever being confirmed.... and therefore can't be delayed? Last I heard was "November" which would mean a delay would be December and on, correct?

Part of me wants it as soon as I can get it, but I would prefer it to ship in the best shape it can. Apple, please take your time and get it right.

apple can't keep up the demand for software updates, they must be doing something right.

Can't wait for the bitching to start Tuesday when they release 4.2 to everyone at once. 10 million iPad users on top of all the iPhones, and iPod touches. Should be awesome!

I've been using the GM on my iPad since it was released. Not a single problem with it. Wifi is working perfectly, no folder glitches, nothing.

Anyone ever consider that on public forums the problems with a product is greatly squewed in the negative way? People only come to forums to get help with a problem, hardly ever to just say "my product works as described".

I'll go back to using my perfectly fine iPad on 4.2gm on wifi and 3G without issues.

I'll second that! Just like the news, bad things get reported more than the good things.
4.2GM on my IPad too, no wifi issues, AirPrint working with the hack. Some niggles on battery life but it still lasts for ages.

A lot of folks are complaining that this or that is missing from IOS on the iPad but at least they got one! Think about the markets where without the international keyboards in 4.2 they can't even get one! The tech hungry Koreans have been stuffed since launch!

I have mine and it does what it was sold to do. Maybe some posters should step back and chill with their IPads:cool:Man enjoy the thing for what it is.
:D

I'm with you. While I would love to have it right now, I know I would be pissed if was somewhat flawed.

After all, isn't this one of the reasons that people leave Microsoft, with their flawed roll-outs and 50 million subsequent patches, and go to Apple?
