I just updated my iPhone. After it was complete, it could not find the SIM card. I did a reset and it found it. Then I had not visual mail, but I called my voice mail and it asked for my password, then the visual mail was accessible. Seems to be working ok now.

That's the problem: you guys are talking about bananas and I am talking about apples. I am NOT a developer

And yet you're quite willing to make definite pronouncements regarding implementation details of iOS and Safari running on it. Kewl.

and HAVE NOT yet updated my iPad.

So from your experience, it's either one of the following:

- you CAN open more pages without reloading on iOS 4, thus meaning that Safari is BETTER with the new iOS version;

- you don't know what I am talking about or have never used other browsers to compare on iOS 3.

My iPad had iOS 3.x this morning; it could load multiple pages in Safari, without reloading when switching from one page to another.

It now has 4.2.1 installed, and it can still load multiple pages, etc. Doesn't seem much different from the earlier version in that respect.

I streamed a purchased itunes movie that was on my iphone. Sure that's not a rental but the DRM issue should be the same. I'll download a 99 cents TV show rental to test it further though.

Thanks for testing that. You're right that the DRM should be the same. I'll try to test whether videos connected to my account will stream to a friend's Apple TV as soon as I get a chance.

I've probably been using Apple devices way before you even considered that possibility, so relax. My point is to have a CLEAR answer to a SIMPLE question that pretty much nobody has been able to address so far, except for one person.

Thanks, even though my experience is different from yours - more than 2 pages are enough for Safari to reload (sometimes even one); and this doesn't quite answer why OTHER browsers are able to do it with few hassles.

Or actually it does: OTHER browsers are designed to go over the threshold originally set for Safari - nobody has been able to confirm otherwise.

That's my point... Apple's Mac business is now like a side job.
That's why there's little news.

Better than 30% of a multi-$billion business is a pretty good "side job".

Apple's completely abandoned the consumer desktop market except for the All-in-One non-upgradeable iMac...

So, when did they discontinue the Mac Mini? Which seems to fall in both consumer and desktop parts of the business. Nice little box, frankly.

It's as if Apple's ultimate goal is to just be in the laptop, phone, TV, toy, & music business. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mac Pros ultimately get discontinued.

If that's what the market says, that's what's likely to happen.

Buggy whip makers didn't continue production for decades after the market dried up, did they?

There's nothing magic about any sort of computer, marketwise, they come and they'll go, eventually.

Those of you that have updated an iPhone 3GS - how long did the update take (not including the download)?

I've already downloaded 4.2.1 but not updated. Just want to make sure it's not an hour+ or something before I apply the update.

Thanks in advance!

Good grief....

I think if many of you would actually read the supporting documentation first, you might not be having these upgrade problems.

Plug in your iPhone, open iTunes, BACKUP your phone, check for new software, download/install/restart/etc. restore from the BACKUP.

Maybe it's just me, but I have never had an issue with each new version of software/firmware installations. Smooth as silk with all functions (and data) present and accounted for.

It should only take 10 minutes max with an update. Restoring is what takes forever because of all the syncing you have to do. With an update you shouldn't need to resync.

It's just software.

Things go wrong with software all of the time.

A lot of people are installing these updates, so there are bound to be problems. Apple's products are not perfect.

That only works on 10.6.5. If you've only got 10.5 (PPC especially) there is currently no free solution.

You can use Printopia, which is actually better since it works w/ Bonjour connected printers too. $10 -- that's almost free if you need to print that badly.

On 2G iPod Touch: Quick and painless dl & update. 45min dl and 10-15min install. Unlike the 4.0 that took hours to finish the install process.

Calendar is still slow and takes few seconds before it shows the events...

That's what I'm using on my old PowerBook (now print server). If anyone is running 10.6.5 there is no need for Printopia since AirPrint Hacktivator is free and would've been the official Apple way if they would've released it.

Help!

HELP!
I see the build is 4.2.1 Build 8C148. I have the GM 4.2 8C134 installed, but when I go to iTunes and try to Check For Update, it says, I'm up to date. How do I get 8C148? Thanks.

I probably should have waited 'till later in the day to up date. First when updating it put my iPod 3rd gen into recovery mode and now it can't contact the server to verify the firmware. :(

2nd gen ipod touch

after the install it said i had no music in the device itunes said the ipod was full. after a restart it was good

So...

The iTunes content reappears when you sync again. Mine was on the phone, but wasn't showing up. A second sync made it appear. Strange.

When I start to play a video, the AirPlay icon isn't available though. Does the phone have to be set up or aware of an Apple TV for this option to even show up? Also, just to be clear...AirPlay only streams from an iPad, iPhone or iPod to an Apple TV, correct? I can't stream movies from my Mac's iTunes library to my iPad or iPhone?

Not as long as you waited for me to tell you how long it took.
