It works the same way as on the iPhone. The sounds of new mails and push messages didn't play and also in games there is no sound if you activated the mute switch. But there is still sound when you listen to music or watch a video.
I think a mute switch only make sense, if there is facetime available on the iPad.
It won't work on one today.I know the description said that AirPrint will work over a printer shared on a wireless network - but only recently did it say that it needed a mac on osx 10.x.x (whatever the new release is)
Is anyone able to confirm that it WILL NOT work on a PC sharing a printer?
Yes. You can google something like "ios 4.2 ipad udid registration." Then look for a developer who seems reputable and is asking no more than $10 (I saw one for $6) and who accepts the money via paypal. You send the dev your UDID and your payment, they add you to their developer account (each dev is allowed up to 100 iDevices, I believe). Then they'll usually provide you a way to download the 4.2 software and instructions.
However, it is super easy. Sync your iPad fist, which you can do as 4.2 is downloading. Then once it has downloaded you alt+click restore and this allows you to choose the file from which you are restoring. Select the 4.2 software and then iTunes will verify your UDID with Apple (this is why you need to pay a dev to add you to their account and not just torrent a copy).
Once 4.2 has installed then just restore from the backup you made or set it up as a new iPad, whichever. Tada, it's that simple.
Hi Chris,
Took your advice and found one for $6. Just received notification that I'm good to go. However, the instructions say "Set it up as a new iPad. DO NOT restore from back Jo!". I'm confused. If I don't restore from back up will I not lose everything? I'm worried that if I try to restore I will mess things up.
Anyone?
Thanks so much!
Reason I ask is because I'm a little (perhaps a little irrationally) paranoid about the repeated use of the home button that might make it wear out and damage faster. Thanks!
That's the only way to do it, and to be honest, you're worrying too much. I've seen a friends original iPhone that still works and his home button feels just as good as my iPhone 4's. Don't worry about a thing
Something I noticed (or missed) -- I can't see my 3G usage any more when I go to Settings --> Cellular Data. Hmm... I keep my 3G off unless I actually need it, so I won't go over my 250mb, but I can't actually see or change my usage plan. Aah the joy of beta.I'm sure it'll be back in the next build.
Everything else works beautifully. Fast, smooth, no crashes.
Is it me or is battery life reduced? Seems to be depleting faster than before, though it could be a false observation![]()
It's been out for a day when you wrote this post. How could you jump to such a conclusion? Battery is fine for me so far on 4.2 beta1.
So the orientation lock is the new mute. Yet the old 2-second-hold mute is still there?
Ingenious.
Was able to get my UDID verified for $7 from someone on eBay, pretty effortless.
Installing 4.2 now...will be losing the jailbreak but that's ok for now, all I really used it for was some multitasking and SBSettings for brightness control. I'm anxious to try something new as 3.2 and jailbreak have become kind of stale.
I know many people across forums and eBay that are accepting money to validate your UDID to allow you to installed the 4.2 beta on your iPad, but this is the first beta of many to come.
Are you going to be able to download future betas, or is the $7 for a one time thing?
