iOS 4.2 on iPad - First Impressions

The reason being is that any UDID you allow to your list count towards you yearly allowance of 100. If you remove that UDID it still counts towards the allowance so you gain nothing by removing it.
Thats twice I've seen that mentioned. Wasn't it previously like that or am I imagining it!?
Thanks for the UDID info btw. Reassuring that any future betas will be ok as the dev told me he'd not be removing any UDID's.
So I 4.2 last night. It's actually awesome! Fast, wifi is even better, and all my apps seem to work.
I think the reason my wifi works is because I changed the dns to 8.8.8.8 whilst being on 3.2...I'm a happy beta tester over here!

Is it? I thought you could only get rid of it if you had the screen use a passcode?
Loving it so far. So what happens when it is released? How do I remove the beta and install the released software?
How safe is it to give out your UDID? Never have done this before so I'm a bit of a newb on this.
Any others kind enough to register 1 more device for free, like the poster on the first page?
Was impressed at first. But on a day to day basis it feels a bit like 4.0 on an iPhone 3GS. Great functions but not as smooth as it was on 3.2. I am sure things will get better as the beta gets ironed out.
Lag particularly visible in Pages, which is slow when scrolling and shows black pages with inkpots in "my documents".
When Safari is the only running programme I am able to open 9 pages without them reloading when switching between them. As soon as there are other Laredo apps running in the background this is reduced to 2 or 3 at the most. I guess the other apps don't play nice yet with multitasking and hog ram.
I restored into 4.2 and then used the 3.2 backup to retrieve my settings. Maybe it would have been better to have a fresh start. But was not looking forward to setting up all my mail accounts etc.

I don't think there should be any problem. It's just a registration number, not some kind of trojan or unlock key. Jailbreaking I would be worried about.
correct me if i'm wrong.
Anyway, if there was an issue with this there would be a big stink, as there are quite a few blokes going this backdoor route.

Emoji Kinda Works?
So, I hadn't even tried to use Emoji on previous versions of the iPad OS because I knew it didn't have a dedicated keyboard.
Well, I downloaded some free emoji app. I turned on an on switch in the app, restarted the iPad and now and emoji keyboard shows up in the keyboard list.
I turned it on, but what's weird is that the emoji selections are invisible. But if you touch anywhere in the emptiness it still types emoji characters. So they work, you just can't see them on the keyboard.
I have no idea if this was always the case, so disregard if so. But funny/interesting nonetheless.

Are your accounts setup as IMAP or POP?
My email was working fine until I added a POP accoun and then it would crash every time. I disabled that account and it stopped crashing.
I have 2 pop and imap setup to it right now. thats probably the issue however abandoning my pop accounts isnt a fix. but its a beta. I still have all my email on my iphone. maybe ill disable them just to play with the mail improvements on the ipad.
I have 4 pop and 3 imaps and 2 subscribed calendars under mail settings. Hasn't crashed at all for me. Maybe do a reset?
Well, yeah, don't upgrade to 4.2 if you expect anything to work properly really. It is beta so of course some things won't work. The only people who should be running it is developers, testers, or people who don't mind living on the wild side where things may crash.
If it breaks, you are on your own. For developers their job is to fix it, for testers their job is to report it to developers so they can fix it, and for the "wild bunch" they can just write a post on an internet forum to tell others what doesn't work right now, but how cool it will be when it does work.
Please tell me that in the "additional keyboard" options, Apple gave us a 5 row keyboard with a number row as the top row.
It is ridiculous to have all this screen space, and have to flip back and forth between an alphabet and numbers keyboard.
One with a del key, please? One with cursor buttons for navigating forms? Would that be too much to ask? You get all that with the keyboard dock, so I know Apple decided that people wanted that at some point.
For crying out loud, my Vic-20 had cursor buttons...

can someone help me register my UDID? PM me, also will i be able to restore from my backups? I have saved game files from Plants vs zombies which I do not want to lose.
Dude, if I had a new 27" inch iMac coming, the last thing I would be thinking about would be my iPad.
