There's something fishy with this thread...

It says theres 7 pages, but it doesn't let me get to page 7...stays on page 6.

or someone is currently typing a post and they happen to be the first to be on the next page, so until they finish, it will kick you back to the previous page.

So does 4.2 run iPhone 4/iPod touch 4G "Retina Display" apps at native resolution (960x640) or does it still "pixel double"?

Nope, doesn't do this. I hope it something they consider adding though, it seems rather ridiculous that they can't do it. Maybe it's something for another beta, or maybe it's not going to be there for 4.3, or maybe Apple just doesn't care to add it all for some reason.

Overall 4.2 beta 1 is working out great for me (listening to pandora while I type this!) I'm really enjoying bluetooth controls with my headphones. The iPad needed this software update the most of all the iOS devices, folders, multitasking, and all the refinements are great. The iPad was a good devices on 3.2.x but on 4.2 I think it's true role as a tablet computer is coming to fruition.

Battery...

I previously ran jailbroken on 3.2.1 and battery life does seem to have taken a toll for the worse with 4.2 =/ Anyone else seeing this?

Not sure if it is because of this but with 4.2 I notice sometimes that even though the screen has gone blank (black or whatever) the backlight is still on. Obviously some sort of bug that will hit battery life. Not sure how to repeat it but I have noticed it twice so far.

I don't think this affected me, I restored the device as new and spent 2hrs web browsing and re-installing stuff from appstore and boom - 50% of my battery was gone.

I've had my iPad since launch day and would say I know the device well - this though was a new experience and not a very nice one so hope it's a one off thing and that it doesn't make it in to the final release.

can anyone point me how to update to 4.2? do i need to register my device id to enable it to upgrade to 4.2?

Correct. Google is your friend for helping you download it.

That's what I did, I used 4.2 for a few hours, and then I went through the pain of rolling back to 3.2.1. Whilst it is very good for a beta and looks fantastic, there are a few things didnt work which were deal breakers -

- Sky Mobile TV crashes
- BBC iPlayer crashes when you try to play anything
- AirVideo crashes
- Facebook on safari intermittently doesn't work

Not major things, but as I use my iPad for travelling a lot (and watching videos when I'm not working), these were a bit of a problem.

Overall, I'm looking forward to the full version coming in Nov, but until then (for me) its just not worth losing so much functionality.

Has anybody been able to do a successful print from the iPad yet?

Not using AirPrint. It doesn't find my wifi HP J6480 printer (bummer). I'm not sure how to set it up so it will print without having to connect it to my PC --> making it shared (as this will require my PC to be on the whole time which doesn't serve the point). I'm an expert when it comes to working with Windows (mainly since I have been using them the whole time); however, I have never used any Apple product besides an iPad and iPT. If someone could walk me step by step to setting up AirPrint directly to my Wifi printer (if at all possible), it'll be great. BTW, my Printer is connected wirelessly to my router. The set up I have so far is:
1. Submit print command on any computer
2. Command is received by router and pushed to printer
3. Printer prints the document

Anyone unable to look at the Apps section of your iPad within iTunes?
Wanted to add some videos to VLC but if I click on Apps iTunes crashes.

I have and it works fine for me. I added some videos to VLC, but VLC is not working on my iPad, so I deleted the app.

Hi all,

Has anyone had this problem?- After installing 4.2, the ipad thinks i don't have a cellular data account. Also, the APN settings and the 'view account' buttons have gone from the cellular network settings page.... I have cellular signal, but no account settings

Anyone?

S

I have exactly the same problem. The unlockit site hasn't worked for me. Any ideas much appreciated!

I can confirm that my USB keyboard still works with the camera connection kit in iOS 4.2 beta 1. I just tried it in notes :).

Also 4.2 is running great for me as well. :)

Has anyone done any additional testing with the camera connection kit?

i.e. have they added any functionality like other programs being able to access USB drives or SD Cards?

4.2 is great. Battery life, not so good :(

Maybe because it is still a beta. I'm crossing my fingers, because battery life is one of the key features for me. Ok, Multitasking will drain the battery a bit faster .. But I hope just a bit. :(
