Do you think itunes will turn on the book store too at the same time? I got the developer release on my 2G touch but no book store there.

Been playing with folders (new to the touch gang, had a classic for years) and all seems good but i'm really curious about the books

I wonder if Apple will release a small update for the 2G, such as something like 3.1.4 with any security fixes or enhancements?

for all intents and purposes, the 3G will not multitask. stop talking like jail breaking is some sort of standard feature. some of us choose not to risk bricking our phones and voiding warrantees because we want to push outdated hardware to the absolute limit.

using standard software=drinking apple koolaid?

your mean spirited BS doesn't make you cool.

bricking your phone? that's damn near next to impossible, yet the majority of non-jailbreakers claim it's almost certain to happen...

what are everyone's speculations for the release of jailbreak/unlocks? will they be out soon or will the devs wait until the release of iphone 4?

I sure hope I'm not the only one sitting here constantly clicking the "Check for Update" button, hoping it's available...

Nope! I've been up since 5am EST. Working from home today just to get the update. Nonetheless working still :(

But we have to remember that the last Developer seeded build of iOS was "GM RC" so this build was a possible release candidate as it wasn't just Gold Master. I still think some polishing has been done to the final copy as there where a few little foibles with the RC build. And the ability for some custom SMS tones would be nice!! :D

My build number is 8a293, so if the build number on the version being released today is different, I'll use the direct download link to get that one. Otherwise, those of us with the iOS 4 GM seed need do nothing.

I played with JB on my 3G and went back to the official release. IMHO there's not enough RAM or CPU to make multitasking anything but a painful experiment without 3GS or 4 hardware.

I disagree. Matter of fact is that you can already jb 4.0gm and change one file on the device to enable full multitasking.

Like I said it is SOFTWARE RESTRICTED.

It's up in the air at the mo. muscle nerd and Sherif now claim the OS4 released today is diff then the GM and "confirmed unlockable". Hope this is a joke but they posted this on their Twitter

Hopefully I can get my mostly broken 3G to work for long enough to update, even though the update probably won't help much. I am in desperate need for iPhone 4...anybody want to give me theirs since I probably won't be able to make it to a store on launch day? :)

It will be unlocked, its probally impossible to make it unlockable. It might take a little longer but someone will get it.

Sure, I only require your bank account number and your sort code sir! :D

t minus 17 minutes. Could you all just wait 5 minutes after it gets released so I can get it first? Thanks.

I'm not saying otherwise. I'm saying it's restricted for good reason. You or I are sophisticated enough to know that when it heats up and slows down you have to kill safari tabs and other unused apps. But iPhone's success is that it appeals to your mom. And if your mom is like like my mom, she's not up for the (as I said, IMHO) bad multitasking experience on jailbroken 3G hardware: she only wants it to be simple and powerful.

No one said it wasn't restricted by software. Sure, Apple could make it happen like that. The point is it won't run well, and Apple feel it doesn't run well enough.

I have to agree with them, from experience.

of course it's software restricted. Apple has chosen not to enable multitasking (in the software) because the performance will not be up to their standards. It's great that you can jailbreak and be happy with sub-optimal performance, but i'd bet most users would rather have a faster phone than a multi-tasking one.
