Damn, I guess clicking "ignore" when it said to update to iTunes 9.2 was a bad idea.

BRB, kicking self in the face.

Installed and rebooting! Now asking to update carrier settings, progress bar is back on iphone screen though.....

Downloaded, installed, and now during synch (after the backup and synching contacts, etc) it's "Optimizing photos." My photos were already optimal in my mind. :D

Yeah, I can also confirm that build is 8A293

Fail.. fail Fail

It keeps failing! I can't get the freaking update! Damn it's like Apple is slowly becoming an incompetent company. You lay in bed with incompetence (AT&T) pretty soon it'll rub off in more then one way!

The backing up "XXXXX's iPhone" has been going on for 10 minutes and it's like 2% done. I backed it up 1 hr ago and it took 1 minute on my 3G. Is anyone else getting this long backup? Can we just click "stop" and it'll continue to install without this backup?

When I loaded iTunes 9.2, it took me 3 hours to do a backup on my 3G. Once I loaded iOS4 GM, it came down to a more realistic time. I could not load the GM until I had done a complete backup (it restores some data in the update process).

Others have indicated normal backup times with iTunes 9.2, but it didn't work out that way for me. Sounds like you've got a long backup time too, so expect a long process.

Thank you.

Any idea why one forum user got a different md5 checksum on the official download?

It's not necessarily the same "download" even if it's the same OS version. The actual OS itself is likely just one part of the file you're downloading, and it's remained the same. There's probably other files contained in the install package that it needs to do the install or that are supplemental (like wallpapers, etc.).

Upgrade, change of Carrier settings & iPhone backup are complete - the next wait is for all my photos etc to get optimised.....

I got the update and when looking through the Japanese keyboard...it includes ASCII emoji!!!!!!

Update from GM Build

If you're on GM Build and want the official upgrade (for any reason) you can force iTunes to download official version by doing a 'Restore' not 'Check for updates'

This will loose all your content though!

Servers are being hammered + DDoS'd, only a fool would have updated to a new OS right after being released.

You are now stuck there for a good 2 hours or so.
What gives YOU the right to call anyone a fool?

Fake, there is no iPhone OS 4 for the iPhone. Only 3G and up. Stop joking around or people will believe you. Reported.

Only a FOOL would report an obvious joke post.... Funny that you neglected to include my "*snicker*" in my original post and say that YOU reported ME.

Does anyone know if there is a direct download URL ?

My work machine (no itunes) is connected to a fast connection, my personal computer is using a verizion wireless card (and I'm in a bad reception area). and we have company policy of not connecting non-company hardware to the network.

I'd like to download the update onto a thumb drive then put in on my computer. right now the estimated download time is 5 hours and I just aint that patient today.

They fixed the Wallpaper bug on iPod Touch 3gen, there was no one in the GM build and in this public release their is all the wallapers, and there is a diffrences the Gm build is 373.9mb an this public build is 383.2

TMobilie US

T-Mobile US still has issues with mms/picture messages with iOS 4. Oh well, was hoping it would fix it, but I think it is a TMobile issue.

Everything else is working nicely.

The picture above was "TMobile NL", not US.

Your pic says TMobile.. I thought the unlock wasn't available yet?

Installing now on my 3G. A little worried though at all those who said the GM build was super slow on the 3G. Oh well. Halfway through now.

Have you thought about the load on their servers? No, I guess not. If you are the average user then you are a fool by updating right away. Always wait 2 hours.

Instead of complaining, why don't you tell us what the error is so maybe someone can help you.
