So far so good. The download went ok and the backup didn't take too long (I had been doing a few backups in the past few days in preparation). It is now "Updating iPhone software".

exactly..If you do your normal periodic backup's it wont take as long. If not, you just have to be patient

Finished the update on my 3g with an error 34.

Seems like all my txts and app data are intact.

I got an error in iTunes on my 3GS but it seems to be working fine, said there was a failure in syncing ... otherwise going to start putting my 363 apps into folders!

ok, took me 1-2mins to download BUT I'm not installing yet. I don't want to lock my 3.1.2 3GS iPhone so I guess I'll have to wait quite a while before the dev-team comes up with an pwnage tool as usual, right?

Normal install would certainly update the baseband and result in a locked phone again, even though I've secured IBEC IBSS and ECID (SHSHs via Cydia too).

Looked through the Dev-Team's site and other forums, couldn't find any hint on what's advisable!

anyone?

Does it seem like it is making the 3GS kind of "jumpy?" The update makes it run slower and kind of reminds me of my Windows Mobile Phone years *shudder*

My GS did originally after installing the GM a couple weeks ago. After a few days and a reset or two, it seems to be just fine.

I also experienced a decrease in battery life the first couple days, but now that seems fine also.

Updating now. Downloaded via iTunes update. iTunes has the screen "Updating iPhone Software...", progress bar at about 95%. The iPhone screen has the Apple logo, progress bar at about 50%.

It's been stuck here for about 20 minutes. Is that normal? Should I unplug and try again?

P.S. Phone not J/B

just when the back up was done and the progress screen and the apple logo appeared on my phone it gave an "unexpected error" so tell me iTunes, which error is expected?

so anyways now iTunes doesn't see my device and it is stuck on the progress screen even though i unplug it.

I think this is called "bricking" i am not sure though. What should i do?

It’s not bricking. Put it into DFU mode and try again.

I got ibooks to work...I did a search for it in itunes on my PC and it was there, so I downloaded it and installed...Already got my books, I posted this in the ibooks thread, but no one believed me, so here is the screen shot. Hope this helps!!
ONE this to add, I am also on the GM and did not install today, just went to itunes on my PC.

iBooks does not show up for me when I search the app store, I am on the GM and have been for 2 weeks.

I know us 3G owners are now "last century", but honestly, they couldn't even enable us to change the home screen wallpaper? How is the 3G's hardware not capable of that? Multitasking, I understand, but common now.

What's wrong with 12 apps per folder? A page can hold 16apps or folders. So a page of 16 folders, each holding 12 apps, gives you 192 apps per page!

have you only ever used an iPhone or what? Is this is a trick question? Because, who the hell wants to make 14 different Game folders when I should just be able to make one Game folder and throw everything in to it. Basically, Apple found a way (yet again) to take a simplistic feature that every phone in the world has had since the dawn of time and make it practically useless. Way to go Apple.

Took 6 tries, but the iTunes download eventually worked and did all the churning with the device in about 5 minutes.

Oh, folders, how I have longed for thee!
