So, I downloaded iBooks that says "This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad", and yet it doesn't copy to my iPhone....bah!

iphone 4 need to update to ios 4 ?

why there is a link do ios 4 for iphone 4 ?
isn't iphone 4 will be delivered pre-installed with ios 4 ??

or should go ahead and download it now and wait for my freaking device to arrive ???

Yes you do goof. You use iTunes and it open software update.... OMG know your stuff before you comment.

Perhaps you should know your stuff before you comment? ;)

If using OS X, when talking about "Software Update" you're referring to the update program within OS X that checks for updates for OS X itself, iTunes, etc. This update program does not check for updates for iPods or iPhones; iTunes does that with its own update mechanism.

Anyone else able to just turn on tethering? I don't pay for it and I'm on o2. It just lets me turn it on

I know us 3G owners are now "last century", but honestly, they couldn't even enable us to change the home screen wallpaper? How is the 3G's hardware not capable of that? Multitasking, I understand, but common now.
It probably has to do with the video capabilities. The 3GS has a faster video chip.

As you slide the screen with your finger, the iPhone has to redraw all those shadows on the icons and the text over the wallpaper. Since the 3G chip is older and slower, this was probably too slow.

If they did support it in the 3G, I bet you'd get tired really quick of sluggish home screen performance.

have you only ever used an iPhone or what? Is this is a trick question? Because, who the hell wants to make 14 different Game folders when I should just be able to make one Game folder and throw everything in to it. Basically, Apple found a way (yet again) to take a simplistic feature that every phone in the world has had since the dawn of time and make it practically useless. Way to go Apple.

How do you make a folder?

hopefully now geohot & company will release the unlock/jailbreak that they have been sitting on for months.

i second that. Downloaded iOS4 but I won't risk to lock my phone, even though I don't need an unlock personally, locking it would greatly decrease any reselling value + i like many cydia apps!

THanks for the links makes it easier to install also has anyone noticed their 3GS running any better with the final release, also curious if the battery life gets better???

Successful update (3Gs). Smooth quick with no issues. When I first started using the phone after the update, noticed that some things were jumpy and not smooth. It's been about 10 minutes now and those things that were jumpy seem to be ok now (perhaps some things still running in the background)?

Don't like the fact that I can't seem to make my background default back to being just black (I have a rather spartan aesthetic). Now I just need my iphone 4 status to show shipped and I'll be good to go.

Give it a few days, and a reset or two. Your battery life will be just fine. Mine did the same thing for a few days after GM4 was on my phone, then it adjusted and was fine.

I have actually done a few restarts on it ... my Mac Pro for some reason can't see it when I plug the phone in. So, the restarts were an attempt to resolve that.

I have been using the GM for about 5 days now and it has not improved what so ever.

Its been 2 hours since I pulled it off a nightly charge. With very light use my battery has dropped 14%.

3G doesn't see much benefit other than the unified inbox and folders. Otherwise I personally feel 4.0 runs sluggish (been using the GM for a while).

YMMV!

Honestly, I'm not really sure there's a great benefit for 3G users upgrading. Yeah, folders is useful and that's pretty much the sole reason I upgraded. Haven't had it noticeably slower or faster. Yet to run it 'unplugged' as it were so will have to see how it goes re: battery life etcetera.
