unlike the bad luck I had in preordering my iPhone 4 (which took 24 hours), I was able to install ios4 relatively painlessly in my 3gs. Here's a stupid question: multitasking works great, but how do I actually quit an app?

Swiping right to left on a Gmail message in the inbox will give you a button saying "Archive".

Doing the same on Mobile Me results in "Delete" buttons. Why is this?

i'm downloaded, and have been "backing up" my 3G for 50 min now and my status bar is at like 5%. anyone else going really slow?

Mine is the same. Taking forever and the progress bar has moved very little. Don't know if I should stop and start over or not.

Blurry photos...

Nice smooth download and install, the whole thing took under 30 mins. Phone actually seems a bit faster (smoother), however all my photos (except ones taken with iphone camera) are all blurry. Anyone else get this??

16GB 3GS

So my first impressions.

iOS4 on the 3GS is pretty darn fast, I was expecting a bit of slowdown but it seems to have plenty power to keep up with the iOS4. I agree with some others, it seems to be just a lot of eye candy, which don't get me wrong, I find very nummy. I like how the dock now looks like Mac OSX ish, which makes me think they are going to try and make it look more and more like that in future iterations.

The only problems I am having so far is with Apps, I tried pandora, the old one not the new one, and it doesn't seem to want to run, neither do a few other apps that stream like the TWIT app, also I am having a hard time getting into the App store, maybe its just the amount of people. When I do get in however I notice some apps have a little "+" in the corner of the "Free" button, which I assume means 4.0 safe.

The camera has a zoom funtion which I tried out and it moves smooth and still supports tap to focus in zoom mode which is nice. I like the splitting menu when you open folders and explore in the multitask bar. Its a bit bittersweet in my opinion I have only had the update for a hour and a half and I see about 10 items in multitasking. I also foresee a long road of updates because I don't think many apps support multitasking. I tried it out on Angry Birds and when I went back to the app from mid-game it just restarted the app. Dissapointing. It still is a step up from the 3.1.3 and I am sure has lots of features to be discovered. I can't wait to deal with it in all its glory on the iPhone 4! :apple:

Anyone else able to just turn on tethering? I don't pay for it and I'm on o2. It just lets me turn it on

That sounds good. Did you have tethering enabled before?

I'm still on 3.01 because I really appreciate my occasional tether, albeit at very slow speeds.

I'm happy for O2 to cap the data as long as tethering is thrown in for free.

This is great and all but as someone who has had iOS 4 now since beta 1, I can tell you that you'll all be somewhat disappointed with multitasking because the applications have to update before they can take advantage. Pandora is working now but all of my games have NOT been working and neither my IM clients have been working in multitasking mode. I guess I was hoping other App developers would have had there applications updated to work with the new Quick Save feature and other things but I was wrong.

We will just have to wAiT :)

Should I upgrade to iOS 4 on my 3GS if I'm going to sell it once the iPhone 4 comes in on 6/24? I really wanna check out 4.0 now, but I'm afraid it might not be able to sell well since 4.0 can't be jailbroken yet.

Sure, go ahead and load iOS 4 on it. I really don't care if you can't sell it since it's not my phone...

Is there a way to shut off certain apps from being in the "Multi-Task Bar" seriously hate having to delete a bunch of apps out of there

Hi All,

I just updated iOS4 on my 3G. Everything ran smoothly... until the screen popped up to enter my pin code. I enter my pin code correctly, and returned to the screen with the single function to do emergency calls

Over and over again... have been trying to restart / reset my phone for 10 times ... Itunes does not recognise my phone anymore ... I just get the error : iTunes is not able to connect to your iPhone. Unknown failure (0xE8000065)

Help meeeeeeee

This happened to me with 3.1.3 Three calls to Apple, no fix. Resorted to AppleCare sending me a new phone. Good Luck!

I'm asking is it worth it, because I'm wondering if it makes the phone slower than it already is. Very valid question.

I downloaded the leaked version of iOS4 a week or so ago on my aged 3G. I didn't notice any performance decrease beyond what has already been there since 3.0. If anything, typing for SMS and email seemed less "sluggish" than it has been for me for a while. The consolidated email and message grouping is nice... Not too many other features to take advantage of on a 3G for me though.

Loving the iBooks update - The bookmark syncing across my iPad/iPhone is working wonderful!

Yeah I'm getting the exact same problem...been backing up for 1hr and 30minutes now and sitting at about 5%!

literally seconds after I said this, the progress bar shot off and is traveling about 5% every 5 seconds so now I'm nearly done. Whew...1.5 hours of backing up sucked

Don’t be tempted with unofficial PwnageTool/redsn0w bundles or releases, just check here or our team twitter for real time release information.

Remember, we risk our devices so you don’t have to (but this time anyone who has made a mistake upgrading their baseband firmware at 3.1.3 or 4.0 should be OK real soon ;)

so I guess this means we could actually just go ahead and upgrade normally via iTunes since the jailbreak/unlock is around the corner anyway? Very tempted, damn.... ^^

with the amount of complaints about battery/memory leak, are you guys restoring from a new phone or a backup? im running the GM and my memory and battery works great but i restore as a new phone. my battery life is actually better than my jb 3.1.2. im on a 3gs.
