I sync back to iPhone some apps, and found that iTunes ERASES ALL FOLDERS.

So, don't worry to use folders if U need to sync with iTunes. :)

did someone forget to update to itunes 9.2? My setup syncs folders just fine.

I remember back in the beta days if you didn't have an updated iTunes and synced with 9.1 or earlier it didn't know how to handle folders so it deleted them. I would make sure the computer you are syncing to has iTunes 9.2.

realli slow. almost an hour and I'm less than 5%

Been backing up since 10:30, 12:06 now...

Here now exactly TWO HOURS (iPhone 3G 16GB filled with approx. 9GB), that has never been so long. On the connected iPhone the spot is swiping over "Cancel"–the only vital sign.

Only took about 4 mins to download, but 2hrs 5 mins to fully backup and reinstall my apps and music...everything does seem to feel faster thus far, but the screen contrast is noticeably darker...

I just installed ios4 and all of my photos now look blurry on the screen. Bad Blurry...

Anyone else with this problem?

Yeah, all blurry, well annoying. Pics taken with iphone camera are fine though... You recon they need "optimising" like when you sync pics with your iphone?

Make sure your Camera app is allowed to use your location and Faces comes from photos synced in iPhoto.

Yeah I allowed it to use my location, and I even see the new location notify thing in the top right after a picture is taken. However, it doesn't show up on the map. Have you taken new photos today that are showing up?

EDIT: Nevermind, guess it's just slow to update.

almost bricked?

My update went super-smooth. Got the latest Pandora and several others. But when I actually tried using it, I get nothing. No app can connect for data. Not Pandora, Safari, nothin'.....

reset the network settings, no go

rebooted, no go

Any ideas?

You may want to restart the process. It only took me like 2 minutes to download the update. it's only 292.10 MB.

been going since 1:01pm EST, now 3:20pm EST... almost done, but stuck restoring 5 gb of vids and music..... so aggrivating. No phone for the past 2 hours...

Also depends on how many photos you have in your Camera Roll. Each time the phone backs up it backs everything up in your Camera Roll so it's best to sync these to iPhoto or whatever and then put them on your phone. That will shorten your backup time (it did quite a bit for me)

I used to think this was the cause, but I can copy the DCIM folder in a couple minutes and I have thousands of photos there. Makes no sense why the "backup" process would take so much longer.

Seriously, the whole phone is only 32GB, why should it take an hour or more to copy the entire thing? It shouldn't... just a poorly written process if you ask me.

MIne has been sitting on "Backing up "XXXXXX's iPhone" for like 45 mins. It's moved to what seems like 3 percent. It just backed up when I connected it to iTunes 9.2. WTF. On Windows. Hrm... :( iPhone 3G here.

Anyone else wait a long time?

Same here, the back-up is taking forever. I cleared all my music off the phone before too so it would go quicker. I've only got about 4gb on there, and it's been at about 5% now for nearly 40 minutes! This is a joke :(

iTunes dev team doesn't know about iOS 4 new feature: FOLDERS

Thanks for the comments people, but here is an issue and you can try it.

I spend several minutes putting all the apps into folders, then I synced with iTunes 9.2 :p, and they force all apps to the distribution it had in iTunes.

I see that I can make folder stacks back in iTunes, but why they delete my preferences? It makes no sense to me.

back up taking forever

so my phone has been around 5% since it started backing up around 1:15pm and now its 3:25pm... anyone else having these forever backup problems?

I mean they make it sound real cryptic that you cant restore from your last back up so thats why you must back up now...

I am confused by this, its a *free* update. If by "worth it" you mean the new features, go look at the release notes and decide for yourself.

They don't mean "worth it" as in money spent, obviously. They mean "worth it" as in time spent, battery life, funcion, sluggishnish, etc. They mean, if they upgrade to 4, will the extra features outweigh any problems from running on an old platform.

This question is best answered by someone with a 3G that updates to 4, not someone who seems to be grumpy today.

Just got my 3gs updated to iOS4

I did find that the camera app when shooting video has tap to focus anywhere on screen now before it didn't on video only pics

and thats about all i can find new execpt the multitasking ,folders, and mail improvements.

and really the multitasking is a joke it just freezes the previous app window so when you go back its where you left off

There is no quick text reply within the app you still have to reopen the app when done texting

looks like iOS4 is really about the iAds and making money for Apple and not even being able to change incoming text sounds !!!!
