iOS 4 RELEASED!

ok, so 2.5 hours later, my 3G finally finished upgrading... now I can't even slide the unlock bar... It's horribly slow! I'm so glad my iPhone 4 is being deported from Hong Kong back to the good old USA on thursday!
 
Downloaded from the alternate site posted early in the thread. With download, backup, install and restart, it took less than 20 minutes from start to finish.

They've redone how they display the icons above the wallpaper, including shadowing and the use of OpenGL, 3G doesn't have graphics to support a lag-free experience.

Don't know what you mean. My video camera works fine. The tap to focus, and the tape to bring up zoom controls work well.

Come on :apple: iPad users stuck with 3.2 until fall! I want multitasking on my iPad so I can read mail as it arrives and go back to reading my books and newspapers! :(
 
Damn. I must be LUCKY.... This thing downloaded , backed up and synced in 20 min.....




everything looks so much more clear (prol just smaller). did I download a HD screen?!?!?!?! :)

and thats about all i can find new execpt the multitasking ,folders, and mail improvements.

and really the multitasking is a joke it just freezes the previous app window so when you go back its where you left off

There is no quick text reply within the app you still have to reopen the app when done texting

looks like iOS4 is really about the iAds and making money for Apple and not even being able to change incoming text sounds !!!!

Many other small improvements as well. This is a good update. As far as multitasking goes, developers need to update their apps to allow for fast app switching. Once this is done, it will be more like true multi-tasking. There are numerous benefits to the way Apple has multi-tasking implemented, namely, low battery drain, integration with the OS (unified music controls, etc.), etc. Quit yer bitchin'! ;)
 
Anyone else use Gmail to sync their calendar? Is yours working? Since installing IOS4 gmail will not sync calendar. It also wiped out my contacts synced with Gmail.

Yeah I figured that would do it. My photos are all already backed up on iPhoto, I just don't have the time to sit around and wait for them to upload to my phone right now.
 
well after reading all these post i think im gonna wait downloading on my 3g. seems pointless anyway..ill wait for my iphone 4 to get here!:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:
 
I really want my iPad with iOS 4 already! Do I really need to wait that long to be able to use it on my iPad? It seems Apple just want people to buy the iPhone 4 and spend an exclusive playing time with it for best sales results, and then Ipad will be next!

I'm in the same exact place. :mad: It took two hours to get to 5%! I canceled it cause I had to make a call, but at least this time around, it only took 40 minutes to get to the 5%...

I'm gonna be here all day.
 
Backing Up

After I removed everything from syncing with my iPhone 3G the "Backing up iPhone" process went pretty fast. I didn't want to do a hard reset so I stopped everything from syncing. Worked Great after that!:)

My guess is that the update for the iPad will include additional updates, on top of what was included for the iPhone.
 
Did anyone just backup their 3G the normal way and then restore it, and then update to 4.0 did that work and your able to get your previous back up? Because this is silly I have to wait almost now 3hours and its still at the same spot! :mad:

Anytime there's a major release (i.e. going from 3.1.3 to 4.0.0), then this is to be expected which is very different from a minor and bug fix release that tend
to be smaller in size.

Other folks have noted, as I've read through this forum and others, that it is extremely slow on the 3G for the first couple hours, then finishes very quickly and suddenly. Don't cancel it half way through, since this seems to be causing it to take longer than it should on the second try.

Just sync your phone again it will re-optimise your photo's.

..well, first broken app (for me anyway) is 'Nearest Tube', camera's gone a bit fooked!

iPhone brick...........again

First post chaps so please go easy on me.................

Downloaded the update for my Iphone 3GS but when I tried to install it came up with error code 21.

It then told me I had to restore my iPhone but when I click on restore it extracts the software, verifies with Apple and prepares the phone for restoring.

Then it goes to a box saying "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21).

has anyone else had this one, I've a feeling I might have had this one two years ago when I updated my original iPhone to OS2 on the day of release and Apples servers couldn't cope.

Please help anyone, I'm starting to panic..................
