Just a heads up, that iOS4 uses way way more battery, like it really kills your battery. I am getting something like 30% less battery now on my 3GS.

But hey, the faster camera is so damn nice!

I can't even. 8 hours anymore. Apple inplementation if multitasking must drain it. Heck even when on 3.1.3 and jailbroken with backrounder my battery was better.

well this sucks. Not only is my backup taking /forever/ despite backing up at least daily, I can't use iTunes to listen to podcasts either, because if you are updating your iPhone, why would you want to do anything else with iTunes??

About dang time!

I'm downloading. I've got 107 hours remaining. 15 minutes ago I have 70 hours, 15 minutes before that I had 45 hours remaining.

At this rate I should have it downloaded by 2011!

3G Backup

I have been backing up for about an hour, the progress bar hasn't move past 5%. This is ridiculous.

I stopped and started a couple of times, but after reading others are having slow back-ups I decided to just let it run and hope it finishes soon.

Is it easier making the folders via itunes or on the phone?

It is the same, the only thing that I found harder in iTunes is to remove more than one app from a folder! you have to drag and drop each app one by one which is not as easy as it sounds with a trackpad, then you have to edit the folder each time you want to remove more app's some times you are left with a empty folder that you are not able to delete, but then it deletes itself when you sync!!

At least there's an excuse for not including multitasking. Wallpapers, though? Seriously? It's sort of funny that this update would add all of the functions I got from jailbreaking...if I had a newer iPod. Oh well, come fall and I will.

Still backing up! 2 hours in, i can't believe how slow this is:mad: I would like to leave the house today!:apple:sometimes really stinks

Yeah..i saw the message that said to back up.. So I did... Took 30 min. 16GB 3G and now I have update trying to install and my screen looks just like the others... Since 10:05pst... Still just a sliver..

Does anyone notice that the Notifications tab in the Settings is missing? Or is it just me?

Mine got all reset, i had to open the apps again for them to ask me to use Push Notifications then they showed up in the notifications section of the settings.

downloading the new iOS4 is very breezy, but syncing my iphone 3g is really long, my iphone is still syncing for almost one hour and its only 5%. whew.!:(

The 4.0 upgrade to my 3GS seemed to go fine. I played around with it for about an hour or so, but now every time I go into the iPod it shows the artist list and it is frozen and then exits. I tried rebooting the phone and even doing a hard reset and the iPod still crashes. Ugghh....

Note to keep in mind, my 3G took forever to start out, then it just cruised along (... 2 hours.... if you call that cruising) but the progress bars started to fly by. Then once it finished it was horribly horribly slow. couldn't even swipe to open the home screen. I did a restart on my phone, home button and sleep and once it restarted it has become blazing fast! I almost regret buying the iphone 4 seeing how fast my 3g just became, but not enough regret to return it :D

Again, I agree. The black home screen is sooo 3.x.

I'm on a 3g. After reading what's going on here, I think I'll hold off. I really don't need folders for the next 3 days until my iP4 arrives.

I'll give my 3g to my son and update it once I see the fallout from iOS4. If I do it at all, I'll wait and do it while I'm sleeping.

I just opened Facebook and it asked for notifications. Then I checked settings again and it was there. Thanks!

Okay I'm really angry, "connection timed out" for the 3rd time after a total of 3 hours of downloading! I give up, I'll try again some other time...

Man, all of my blank icons are holes in the wall paper!

No big deal, worth the trade off!

Anytime there's a major release (i.e. going from 3.1.3 to 4.0.0), then this is to be expected which is very different from a minor and bug fix release that tend
to be smaller in size.

No. All iPhone and iPod touch updates have re full version. Going from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 was a big download (several hundred megabytes) they do this so if your on 2.0 with your iPhone 3G, you can download iOS 4, an get everything that 2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1, 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1, 3.1.2, and 3.1.3 includes and all the new iOS 4 goodies.

I understand that multitasking is not supported on the 3G, but Wallpaper? Really? C'mon, Apple...

While the 3G and Original iPhone will aloe backgrounds, Apple ants your money and gets you to upgrade. My original iPhone could multitask, send MMS, shoot video and have a background. But if they allow their updates to do just that, then no one except their loyal fanbase will buy their new iPhones.

ok, so 2.5 hours later, my 3G finally finished upgrading... now I can't even slide the unlock bar... It's horribly slow! I'm so glad my iPhone 4 is being deported from Hong Kong back to the good old USA on thursday!

Apple purposely slow the phone down so you will buy a new faster model that then will be slower in a year or so. But the amour of lag you have isn't normal. Try a restore, but set up the phone as a new phone. DO NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP. Once you do that, it should be smoother, just not as smooth a it was when it shipped with iOS 2 or iOS 3.

I have been using iOS 4 for a few weeks on my 3GS and have noticed the complete opposite.. maybe it is your battery?

Hmmm, no search for ibooks found. Does it have a different name?

If anyone's still trying to find it... Type "iBooks" into search in the App Store... but make sure you hit enter. If you don't, it autopopulates a bunch of results, but not the one you're looking for.

If, however, you hit enter, it will come up with a list of app icons and names and iBooks will be the first one.
