The "New Contact" and the "Edit contact" screens in the iOS 4 Contacts app have been heavily changed. To worse!

Gone are the elegance, the simplicity and the easy understanding of what to do to add a new phone number, or a new address, etc.

Why bother to change what was quite perfect?

Also, still no "Duplicate contact" function (as there is in the Mac OS app), that I have repeatedly requested to Apple feedback, which would be very useful when you have to add several contacts of the same company or organization (name of company, fixed phone lines, postal address and domain of the email address are the same, so duplicating the first added contact you can easily add several further persons simply changing name, surname, mobile phone number and the first part of email address)

Mines doesn't look different at all.

WHERE IS FACES AND EVENTS in photos?

WHERE IS FACES AND EVENTS in photos????? missing features!!
Has anyone noticed that FACES AND EVENTS are not in the iOS4 upgrade today as it was in the beta versions?

Looks like Apple pulled these features from the final version compared to the beta version.

any have FACES and EVENTS in photos?

Just wanted to chime in.

iPhone 3G user here with Rogers Canada. Uhmm, with iOS 4, my phone SCREAMS! Much faster than 3.1.3... Guess I got lucky?

Edit: I should add that I did a Restore via iTunes 9.2. Just followed standard procedure. Mind you, it took a good 3 1/2 hours to finish updating (inc. backup/restore time).

UPDATE x2: I think I figured out why it's in Spanish. I think before, the App Store must have been in English for me, since I'm in the US. Now it's showing up in Spanish both on my iPhone and on my Mac (OS 10.6.4). Must be because I have Spanish chosen as my second language in my preferences on my Mac. It wasn't like this yesterday, however, so something appears to have changed in terms of how it determines the language it displays the App Store.

I takes the language from your system settings and/or your iTunes account to switch languages, I have my system in English but I have iTunes accounts in the USA, UK and Spain, sometimes the US & UK stores shows up in Spanish if I have a Spanish keyboard chosen on my system. :D

Wow! Love this! Really the biggest improvement to the iPhone. Sure did clean up my Apps and clutter with the ability to group into folders. I had over a hundred Apps. I think I was getting carpal tunnel in my thumb with all the flicking left and right I had been doing through pages of Apps.

Plus I love the iPad-like background image options. Nicely done Apple :D

I get off work in an hour... is the system starting to bog down when updating? I am guesing the storm will hit in the next 2 hours :D

I have Faces, Events and Places. I'm also syncing photos from my iPhoto library that those events and faces correspond to. Maybe they aren't there if you aren't syncing photos from iPhoto that have faces and events tied to them?

I have the faces in my iPhone photo library now. Pretty cool, and working well. (no events however- it is Albums/Faces/Places across the bottom of my album)

What the junk? Why is it taking all day to back up my 3G? I downloaded the update in minutes, but it's been 'Backing Up' for 3 hours!

GM iOS 4 firmware

Hi,

I have the GM firmware. Do I need to restore my ipod touch to today's firmware? Is it the same one? I am reluctant because I have 64GB ipod and it is going to take forever to backup and restore.

Thanks

Scared to upgrade

With all the problems reported in upgrading the iPhone OS, I'm scared to upgrade my 3G for just INCREMENTAL improvements. I think I'll wait until the dust settles before doing this. I will, however, upgrade my iPhone 4 when I get it in July if it doesn't ship with it already installed.

Camera Zoom

Hey All,

I did the update but not getting a camera zoom. Any idea why not or others have this issue?

I got a 3GS

Thanks

I'm doing a restore on my 32GB, just so that I have the official release of 4.0. Also, there are some reports that even though its the same build number, Apple took out GameCenter in the final version.

Looks the same to me.....

I don't notice any changes at all. Not sure what you are talking about. I have OS4 since the initial beta and adding a new or editing an existing contact looks the same to me.

Sorry if this has been addressed, but I don't have time to go back through the 800+ posts. I've upgraded to iOS4. I have also downloaded the Pandora released today that - I thought - could run in the background. How do I "activate" background-running? (I have an iPhone 3G; is that the problem?) Thanks.

It was never meant to be included. The GM had it because it was a developer release and since GameCenter is still in development it would makes sense to be in developer releases. I'm sure it will be in the another release when it is actually released.

If you have a 3GS then there is the digital zoom slider (tap the screen to see it). You also get touch to focus in the video camera mode.

On the iPhone 4 I believe you can also select which of the 2 cameras you want to use.

Also, taking pictures is now SUPER FAST. You can take a rapid number of shots in succession which is nice.

Cool! Thank you, I kept trying to do it and it was just taking pictures.

Manual?

OK, this might seem like a dumb question, but is there a manual available for iOS4? Lot's of new features, lot's of things that work differently now:

- the commonly asked "how do I create a folder"
- is there a way to make apps just close vs going into the "task bar"?
- is there a way to make your background just black like 3G owners are forced to do?

iPhone 3G doesn't support multitasking. Sorry :(
