WHERE IS FACES AND EVENTS in photos????? missing features!!
Has anyone noticed that FACES AND EVENTS are not in the iOS4 upgrade today as it was in the beta versions?

Looks like Apple pulled these features from the final version compared to the beta version.

any have FACES and EVENTS in photos?
No they didn't. You should have received the following notification:

Turn On Location Services to Allow "Camera" to Determine Your Location
Photos will be tagged with the location where they were taken."

Please check: Settings -> General -> Location Services (and make sure it is set to on)

Note: The Camera application must be allowed to use/call the location API – to tag your photos. If not... no dice – won't show up without tagged photos. Take a photo afterwards and you should be able to use this feature. Even on a 3G.

p.s. There's also a new icon for location aware apps.

This might sound dumb, but have you tried to do a restore again? Try it twice. Also try rebooting both your computer and your device. If it still doesn't work, re-download the update file from Apple, it could have had some download issue that's not being caught upfront.

Tried it about thirty times. How can I download the update again if my phone is locked on the Apple screen and won't go beyond it ?

Sure it must be server trouble, foolishly thought that after the problems of two years ago that Apple could cope !!!!

Why do my photo libraries look like crap as a wallpaper (resolution reduced) but the stock wall papers look great (resolution fine)?

When I view the images in a slideshow they still have their high resolution...

Just wanted to chime in.

iPhone 3G user here with Rogers Canada. Uhmm, with iOS 4, my phone SCREAMS! Much faster than 3.1.3... Guess I got lucky?

Edit: I should add that I did a Restore via iTunes 9.2. Just followed standard procedure. Mind you, it took a good 3 1/2 hours to finish updating (inc. backup/restore time).

I second that! Got rid of my version that had last week and did a restore and it is even better. Battery, signal, speed!

I was prepared for no multitasking on my 3G, but I'm really disappointed I can't even open the drawer to lock screen orientation.

Other than that, I'm happy. Folders and unified inbox are great.

Follow the link in the original post to download the update file, then Option click the restore button in iTunes and select the new file you downloaded.

I got ibooks to work...I did a search for it in itunes on my PC and it was there, so I downloaded it and installed...Already got my books, I posted this in the ibooks thread, but no one believed me, so here is the screen shot. Hope this helps!!
ONE this to add, I am also on the GM and did not install today, just went to itunes on my PC.

I recognize that Princess ship. Is it the Crown, Ruby or Emerald Princess?

WOW, I must have gotten lucky. From start of download, backup to install only too between 10 and 15 minutes for me. That was faster than I expected. The download only took 7 minutes for me @ home.

Sorry if this has been addressed, but I don't have time to go back through the 800+ posts. I've upgraded to iOS4. I have also downloaded the Pandora released today that - I thought - could run in the background. How do I "activate" background-running? (I have an iPhone 3G; is that the problem?) Thanks.

No multitasking on the 3G. It's only available on the 3GS and 4. I'm in the same boat, only I haven't upgraded my 3G yet.

Disappointing changes in Contacts app

Why bother to change what was quite perfect?

Mines doesn't look different at all.

This is what I want to know as well. I have several wallpapers (from the great thread on this board) that are in the iP4 size/resolution, but when I chose to use one, it looks grainy and HORRIBLE.

Please dont tell me that you can only lock orientation in portrait? why not in landscape to?

Landscape only would have been better in my opinion, when lying down using safari, I get sick of it flipping.

Why has Apple only done portrait only?

ps iOS4 on a 3GS

Can someone confirm this?
And is it also true that the lock orientation dosen´t work on 3G phones?

It looks to me as if the update reduced all my photo albums to icon resolution. I'll have to check to see if this happened in iPhoto as well...

Footprint?

Anyone worked out how much more space iOS4 takes up on the device than version 3 does? Reason I ask is I currently have an iPhone 3G 16GB with usually about 2GB free space, and I'm planning an upgrade to the iPhone4 16GB and wondering if I'll still be OK for space, or if I should start planning to reduce space (eg syncing a smaller random subset of my music)?

They should have added a switch to the iPhone 4 at least!

Just installing iOS 4!

Three hours in, backup is still in progress...

I hope this problem is fixed with the iPhone 4.

I can manually copy everything from the phone in Windows in minutes, but it takes hours to do a backup in iTunes?!
