Apple is really going to shoot itself in the foot and loose all cred if they keep releasing products clearly not ready for the public. Too many beta's and bad builds. The public will not tolerate this kind of bs if they keep doing this. We work hard for our money and the iPhone 4g was a slap in the face to the consumer with its inferior death grip. It was on many trades do not buy list and now this laughable ios5.1 build which is making iPhone 4s battery issues worse and making iPads crash? People are protesting all over the world due to corporate greed and Apple is right up there with the greediest. Android is no joke and will win a big victory if Apple keeps playing games with its customers.
Siri is a beta and should NOT be in the publics hands yet.
Just my 2 cent rant. Truthfully yours

Dramatic much?

Siri works just fine for me. And not everybody is having issues from the latest version of iOS 5 (I don't for example).

Hope they also do something about the echo when talking on the phone using headphones...

How effing lazy does a person have to be to ask Siri to take a picture for them? You have to be holding the phone to activate Siri and line up the shot - just press the camera button.

That's how I felt when automatic garage door openers came out!

Lets just hope that the ADHD people with battery issues does not make it worse for the rest of us. Then again giving them a placebo should keep them calm and submissive of their own accord.

I don't think Siri needs an iOS update to receive enhancements. It's all server-side.

...and that is why i keep coming back to the iPhone. Updates updates updates and i get them as soon as they're released. No waiting days, months for it to be ported onto a custom UI/skin or for carrier approvals or till i buy a new phone entirely and all that nonsense.

The product/ecosystem keeps on giving and giving for the next 24 months at the very least.

I agree with you. I think overall things work well and have not had any issues with IOS 5. Granted I also expect Siri to work well (and it does). I'm not one of those that point to "what do you expect since it's in beta?". The reason why I expect it to work is because all the commercials and marketing material I've seen on the 4S revolve around Siri. If they're using it to sell a product I believe it shouldn't be considered beta... or if they still call it beta we should still hold it to a higher standard than "typical" beta software due to many of us buying the phone because of Siri.... and only those that hang out on the forums or watch the Keynote are likely aware that it's considered beta by Apple.

I would absolutely love a Siri API! That would be amazing to use. But I see many flaws with such a system.
First, conflicting commands. What if an app such as Camera+ uses the API to create a command "Take a photo" and such a command was already there for Apple's Camera.app? Sure, it could let you choose which app you want to use, but that would be a gigantic waste of time. Or something like "Initiate video chat with Susan" for apps like Skype. Would it access Skype's address book and look for Susan or would it look in the built-in Address Book and start a FaceTime call with Susan's phone number?

And the last example being "Make a Genius Bar appointment at 7:00 PM". Would it make an iCal event with the title "Genius Bar" at 7:00 PM or use the Apple Store app to set up a Genius Bar appointment?

slow news day?

"Macerkopf has not been a frequent source of rumors regarding Apple's plans, and thus the report should be taken with some skepticism, but the claims do seem to line up with Apple's priorities"

LMFAO

Well, considering that none of this is a secret if the first place, how can it
1. be a rumor?
2. be wrong?

The 5.0.1 update was an interim fix, and Apple cited a few weeks (it was not ahead of schedule, just pushed the first fixes out sooner)

Siri is still in beta, and we already knew about foreign map support etc. and in that they always said "and other enhancements to siri." Siri is supposed to replace voice control, yet its beta is missing the control part. Duh.

perhaps these system based commands won't need to connect to Apple's servers?

i think that's pretty cool though

"allow me to adjust my brightness" - brightness control appears
"turn on/off bluetooth"
"turn on/off wifi"
"turn on/off tethering"
"turn on/off airplane mode"

Why not go all the way?

"turn on/off wife"

What 5.1 really needs is refinement for Notification Center. An icon in the taskbar to notify you of existing notifications would be a great start.
Apple should have just hired David Ashman to design the Notification Center.

The work he had with iOS 4 and LockInfo blows NC out of the water. status bar icons, favorites, quick previews for e-mails, ability to mark things as read, delete, etc all from the lock screen or info shade, integration with bitesms, etc.

NC sucks, I can't wait until LockInfo is out of beta for iOS 5. I still use it but a lot of features right now cause crashes and stuff. Long Live LockInfo!!!!

Hope this is true. 5.0.1 definitely made my battery worse...I would love to see an improvement.

Also, Siri to toggle wifi and bluetooth would be fantastic.

While 5.0.1 didn't make my battery any worse, it only partially fixed it. Hopefully all the other relevant fixes will be in 5.0.2

:)

Couldn't agree more. Siri could make switching simple settings like these much faster.

Slightly. You can also talk to Siri when your iPhone 4S is on just by bringing it to your ear. I still don't know if that would be faster though.

I thought it was more about opening the photo app. Something that could be helpful depending on where your photo app is buried on your phone.

How does it turn off airplane mode? Siri depends on a network connection and with airplane mode on, there is zero chance of sending the audio to Apple's server for analysis.

release of iOS 5.1

i think it's really awesome that siri comes to iPhone 4:D
but does anyone know when iOS 5.1 gets released? (not beta version)
:apple::apple::apple::apple:

Bluetooth on/off is something I have wanted on the multi-tasking bar for an age. Siri makes sense for doing this instead.

Just need a 4S now...

Sorry. This will only be available on iPhone 5 with advanced command abstraction layer technology.

Apple never preannounces software release dates. They show up when they show up. So your guess is as good as anyone else's.

That said, it won't be for a while since they haven't even provided a single developer preview.

Wonder how you would feel if your phone drained 5% battery an hour in standby mode with every feature turned off. Guess you would'nt be so ignorant then.

Siri is one of those projects that will continuously improve and improve. I see a point in the future Siri exists across all Apple platforms and becomes almost as dependable and Google.

I was one of the whiners concerning the 4S battery life. Totally horrible. 5.01 came along and I didnt see any difference...then about a day or two later I noticed incredible increase in stand by time and battery life. Its like I have my 4 again. Thanks heavens!
