I could see that icon getting pressed accidentally and then someone putting it in their pocket...possibly causing overheating.

Yeah, I wish there was some kinda of "default apps" settings for internet browser, camera, maps, youtube, etc… It's annoying that, no matter how many browsers you install, if you tap a link in a email for example, it always opens in Safari… If you tap "take picture" within any app, it always goes to the default camera app… Users should be allowed to choose.

Go to Android if this is what you like. Relying on 3rd party apps is what mucks up phones and makes them buggy.

It's not a button

I like it! Too many people don't know about the awesome little things like double tap for camera, and even multitasking..

I'm the only one in my whole family who knows about the multitasking bar. And I've showed them too. I think the new camera slide option looks great and I can't wait to try it out.

If you fundamentally believe users should be allowed to configure every nook and cranny of the software, you can choose a different device/ecosystem. That is real choice. If enough people make that choice because of things they don't like in iOS, Apple might even change. The free market is a wonderful thing.

Apple sells a product that they believe provides the best overall user experience. Part of that means making certain design choices that limit what the user can do. You have to deal with it or leave. Complaining does no good.

That's why it's a slider, and not a button. Much less chance of accidentally activating it.

I think this will be a big improvement over the current interface - much less obscure, and faster access to the camera, at least in most cases.

Would be a great feature indeed, to be fair the new possibilities that can be added are endless.

Do we think notifications widget will be opened up to developers?

Really? They change a button to a slide bar, and everyone is ready to blow Apple for it? Are people's expectations that ridiculously low? How about a lockscreen notification dismissal button, so I can get rid of the slider notifications without having to unlock my phone every time? Or how about they fix the abysmal battery life first? Oh, that's right. My 4S is SUPPOSED to last only half the battery time as my previous 4 did. Then, Apple can fix it with the 5, and say, "Look how much we improved the battery life!", and then everyone can blow them all over again.

I like Apple products as much as anyone. I read all kinds of Mobile Phone news stories, blogs, etc (Apple and non-Apple). I'm not a hater by any means (I've owned every iPhone except the 3GS, and I have an iPad 2), so you can save hitting your reply button and flaming me by calling me a hater. It's my opinion. And in my opinion, I'm just finding it harder and harder to justify looking past the basic things that should work, because they change a button to a slider and everyone goes ape-***** over it. Apple has become geniuses at deflection, because they've learned that if they just don't acknowledge something long enough, people just stop complaining about it, especially if they provide them with other features that they weren't asking for to begin with. Pure deflection. Pure business genius.

(Flame away, zealots. Just remember, you're no different for loving Apple no matter what the short comings are vs someone who hates Apple products just cause they're Apple products. Just two extreme ends of the same spectrum. And for the record, I consider myself in the middle. I'll gladly praise apple when they do something good, but I won't make excuses when they miss something basic either. Can you honestly look at your iPhone or iPad and then at yourself and say that, and then still flame me for my opinion?)

With that attitude, Apple should of kept the iPhone like it was at first without an app store at all. I mean, to suggest that we shouldn't have the choice of which camera app or browser to use because it'll make the phone "buggy" is completely ridiculous.

If you download a buggy app, you uninstall it and give it a bad review and it sinks to depths of the app store where few will ever find it again. The great apps like Camera+ have no bugs and have tons of features the default app will never get. For those who use those features and like the app, why shouldn't they have the choice?

I speak the language on that site. I'm not sure sure that is real, I think it's just photoshop for the eyes only but I could be wrong.

What it shows is that Apple continues to iterate on design, even for features that work pretty well. Many companies may have said, "Cool, we have photo access from the lock screen" and then left it at that. If this image is real, it shows that Apple continued to look for a better way. Double tapping home and hitting a button worked, but it was hidden from most users. This new method looks to provide quicker access and be far easier for the average user to discover. Win-win.

This is precisely what many of us love about Apple. They care about the little things like this. If you don't get that, I don't think there is anything we can do to help you see it.

Funny. You're getting more worked up than anyone else in this thread. A long, 3-paragraph rant because some people said they liked a new feature.

Who's the one going "ape-*****"?

Provided this isn't fake/cut from the actual GM, this is a smart move. I know we all know that camera shortcut's there, but I lost count of how many people I've had to show it to. Apple doesn't point out that many things on first launch, and most people don't even read those. I mean, plenty of people don't even know the multitasking bar exists (depressing, I know!).

That would be my mom... I don't even think she knows about the app store either.. She has 0 third party apps!:p
