All I want..

All I want to see in 5.1 is a much improved Reminders app.

1. Let me choose the size of a geo-fence. If I'm walking in the door somewhere, odds are, I've already remembered what I'm there to do.. I want to be reminded when I'm on the nearby road about to drive by.

2. Let me choose a Reminder location on a Map. Seriously. I shouldn't need to add every grocery store, pet store, office supply store to my contacts. In-fact, let me set a stretch of road close to a place I may need to be reminded to stop..

3. Let me set Reminders to stop accessing the GPS if I'm more than an hour, 30 min, or 15min, drive from the nearest Reminder location. Battery life is more important.

That's definitely a HUGE improvement for instant camera accessibility. Much better.

Especially with my very iffy iPhone 4 home button which has problems recognizing double-clicks. :D

I like this feature. By not double-clicking the home button, it shaves a little bit off of the time it takes to open the camera.

I am inclined to believe that this is legitimate. If you look around, you'll see that people are noticing that the "arrow box" on the "slide to unlock" track is smaller and more square. I think this is to make up for the smaller unlock distance caused by the presence of the camera slider. That way, the "slide to unlock" gesture still feels the way it did before and not too short, if you know what I mean.

Cleverly implemented. Can't wait for iOS 5.1!

Camera slider is very, very good

It makes complete sense and adds to functionality in a practical way. Siri is useless, nobody uses it, but everybody wants to have quick access to the camera.

How abaout sliding the cam-icon up will quick-take you to the photo-cam - sliding it down or something immediately starts video recording.

There's been so many occasions in the past where I'd have needed the video function to be ready much faster...

Going to the Cam-App (even via double tap) and then having to slide again for switching from picture to videomode... that has often taken too long and the cool stuff that I intended to film was already over...

I wonder whether that "slide to open camera" will be present when this software update is released:

I'm not sure but I'm pretty certain that patent will cover this camera feature.

That's not such a big deal. They are similar, but not exactly a copy. The "real" big deal will be the Notification system. Google has a Patent pending. Once it's granted, one can only assume what will happen.

That's a great little change.

-Saves the home button.
-Is always visible, hence it's faster.
-And if it doesn't require the launching of the camera app(don't know how would that work) as the article mentions, that should give it extra quickness.
-As already mentioned, no everybody knew about the shortcut, now they will.

I like that Apple is taking camera seriously, quickly activating it and taking a shot is important.

Anyway I think notification center for iOS will be completely redesigned soon or later..it just not fitting the iOS at all, even the background with that gray linen is on the bottom layer and notification is in on the upper layer..

No offense everyone, but why are you freaking out about this tiny change?
Honestly it's not that big of a deal.

Yeah, but many people don't know about this "double tap to camera" shortcut. Many times I see people asking me "What did you do there??", because they never imagined it was possible. With this, it will be quite obvious to everyone. ;)

The first time I found it was by accident.

A+ if this change is true; there's no reason the camera option shouldn't always be there, and a lot more people would at least know that it's there.

What about siri? no improvements on that/ when on earth are we in the UK going to get location services

What it shows is that Apple continues to iterate on design, even for features that work pretty well. Many companies may have said, "Cool, we have photo access from the lock screen" and then left it at that. If this image is real, it shows that Apple continued to look for a better way. Double tapping home and hitting a button worked, but it was hidden from most users. This new method looks to provide quicker access and be far easier for the average user to discover. Win-win.

This is precisely what many of us love about Apple. They care about the little things like this. If you don't get that, I don't think there is anything we can do to help you see it.

jll62 - That's what I like about Apple too. And I agree with your assessment that they are looking for new ways of doing things and I respect your opinion on that. But can you honestly tell me that you would prefer they work on things like this (something that wasn't broke, but shaves 1/2 of a second off the start time of firing up the camera app), instead of working on things that don't work well (reminders that can't be reordered by date, proper dismissal of notifications, subpar battery life)? That's what "I don't get". The other things that aren't working "properly" (in my opinion) are bigger issues than camera access. How people can look past these bigger things and get so excited about something so minor?

Funny. You're getting more worked up than anyone else in this thread. A long, 3-paragraph rant because some people said they liked a new feature.

Who's the one going "ape-*****"?

Not worked up, mate. Just merely trying to preempt the tons of hate responses because I dared to question the almighty Apple. And actually, the people going "ape-*****" are the ones calling it the "best day ever" and proclaiming "this is incredible". It's a nice to have feature, but it's marginal at best. Let's fix broken/sub-par stuff first (as mentioned - Sorting Reminders, Notification Dismissal, Battery), not give me something new that I wasn't asking for to begin with.

This is a direct copy of HTC Sense 3.0 lock-screen. There also you slide to open the camera app.

So much for innovation :(
