When I went to the software update I'm settings the download page that popped up was for beta 5 and not beta 6. Did anyone get this too? The size of the update is consistent with what everyone else got (144mb for AT&T iPhone 4).

Heres a thought.

Do you need a wireless router to sync wirelessly to your iMac or does it use the same technology for Airdrop to sync and create its own wireless connection?

Anyone know?

They said that with iCloud and the untethered iPhone that updates would happen over the air. I think it reuses whatever Wireless connection you have to download the delta difference between your current version and the target version you are upgrading to. This one was 144 MB and I'm real sure it did not use my Cellular network to download it but the available WiFi network at the location.

iOS 5 beta 6 is by far the smoothest of the betas. 5 was a major battery drain and had many bugs. So far all of the even numbered betas (2, 4, and 6) have been better than the odds (1,3, and 5). I hear an announcement on the horizon

For all non-devs installing these betas - please, please, please stop rating apps as buggy. You're killing the developers.
I think there was a techcrunch post about how apple should disable anyone with a beta OS to be able to rate apps in the app store.

How is it I can download 147mg update over 3G, but not a 25mg app...
Seriously.

Sure that would be nice. I think, however, the reason is to not overload the cell network with people downloading apps everywhere for long periods of time because of the larger file sizes. So I guess maybe their logic is that iOS updates are so relatively infrequent that the carriers allow it.

That's my guess, anyway.
That makes the most sense, they don't want another complete network shutdown the way it happened before on release day/weekend ...

Yes. The secret NFC code increases the weight of an iPhone 4 by 0.2 grams.
HAHAHA. Same way your body weighs 28 grams less when you die, because that's how much your soul ways .

Yep looks good. Photo Library images are correct on mine now and instagram works fine now. Before it was getting stock in processing image or a weird delay in putting the photo in tot he camera roll. Seems good now.
b5 killed my photos and roll too, good to know they fixed that in this one.

A little quick on the battery test, don't you think? I mean, it's been like 30 minutes. :)
Yeah as people said after this, if you can sit there and watch the %s go down constantly you can pretty quickly tell if it's going to have a horrible life (or if too many processes are running).

Well, my battery life goes down 1% every 3 mins, and my phone gets VERY hot, so any type of improvement is better than what i have...
Happened to me on b3 as well after a few days.

anyone got photo restoring problems?
did on b5, haven't put b6 on yet.

Updating from Beta 4 so had to do a clean swipe.

I must say I am very impressed with iCloud. It is amazing how easy it was to restore using iCloud, took less than 10 mins

iTunes error 1660 when syncing iPad 2 GSM

Hey All

Is anyone else getting an "an unknown error has occurred (1660)" popping up in iTunes when syncing any devices on iOS 5.0 Beta 6?

I am getting it on my iPad 2 GSM but not my iPhone 4 GSM.

I have tried restarting the iPad and now I have DFU Updated the iPad and am restoring, however the error recurred when it restarted after the restore from backup. I will try setting up as a new iPad and also try restarting my machine later on to test.

Also my iPhone 4 is giving me the locked with a passcode error every time I connect it locked with the latest iTunes beta with the phone locked though before I updated it would work fine.

Regards
Alexander

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I've yet to install iOS 5 b6 so I'm not sure what the new one sounds like. Hopefully its not worse

Mine did the same thing. I'm downloading for the hell of it. Time to be a guinea pig...

edit: It's actually beta6. So weird! Verified version 9A5302b
MUCH snappier!

You could retrieve the sound file for the tweet from the previous beta and install it as a custom tone.

Me too, wtf.

No USB Hotspot

This may already have been noted, but I can no longer use my hotspot via USB. I can, however, now use wi-fi hotspot. Bluetooth has always worked.

Downloaded the OTA update, it finished downloading, says downloaded, but the button to "Install Now" is greyed out and unclickable.

My iCloud says "iPhone is being restored, cannot back up to iCloud" so I did what someone suggested, deleted the account and readded it. Now the iCloud Backup is grayed out and I can't turn it on or backup.

Now what?

Me too
