It seems that when you make a custom vibration, it does not actually get used for a sms or mail. It just reverts to apples default vibration. Anyone else have this happen?

What's the average time between beta updates? Couple of weeks? This is my first time testing on a beta.

They work fine for me, got them From beejive, Facebook, iTunes festival and some others.

I'm getting the notifications from the likes of facebook, Ebay etc, but clicking on the notification banner (in lock screen) does nothing - isn't it supposed to take me to the message/app itself?

iPhone 4.

you have to swipe the icon to the right ;)

i think it's Apple's policy that there's no interaction with the phone from the Lockscreen except for:
- when the home button has been double clicked or held (camera button accessible, iPod controls, voiceover)
- swipe animations

supposed to prevent unintentional keypresses, me thinks

my iphone crashed today and upon reboot all my photo albums had vanished except camera roll and photostream, problem is ive taken more photos since and they've been uploaded to another photostream folder so i now have two photostream folders.
i can't find any way to delete either of them and i think the original photos are still using space because when i resync'd with itunes it reloaded them all on but the photo bar is now around double size. any suggestions, has anyone had this?

App settings

After starting fresh as a new phone I have now downloaded the apps that I regularly use (there was a lot I didn't it seems). Most of thos apps sync themselves with rss, drop box or their own servers so I wasn't worried about losing data or content, but I forgot about app settings...

Going to Settings then scrolling down should give a list of apps installed and the options associated with that app, not so on my iPhone 4 or iPad 2! I can't find the app settings anywhere, there is a list of apps in settings>usage but the only option I'd to view usage (disk space) and to delete the app.

Am I being blind? I have looked thoroughly....

I would really like to adjust the settings in Reeder, maybe Apple are making Devs put setting buttons in their own apps now and not giving access to the Settings.app?

nope, both my iPad and iPhone have app settings list at the bottom where it usually is

I've noticed a lot of these same problems as well. Problems with my car's USB port, orientation problems when viewing YouTube on the web, etc.

One thing I've experienced that I haven't seen mentioned here is a major issue with Maps. When searching for Bed, Bath & Beyond, for example: When I click the arrow next to the search result to view the address, phone number, etc--maps hangs for a moment and then crashes. Happens every single time. I tried setting it up as a new phone--the problem persisted. Has anyone else encountered this?

Using about the only one you don't have. LOL 3GS

I've got a 3GS, i get the same issues but it's more of if I leave home and the phone finds other wifi networks , occassionaly it will ask if I want to join a newly found wifi network. But the screen that pops up is blank, so i cant select the network it found. Then when i get home, it won't sign back onto my home network. I've had to reboot the phone both times this has happened to get phone to log into my wifi network.

The other issue was battery life, it was running through a full charge in less than a day which is definitely not normal. I let the phone kill the battery completely and then recharged, so far today it seems back to normal.

Twitter isn't giving me push notifications like it is supposed to (I think) Just Echofon, but I'm not sure if you have to install the native Twitter app to do so, which is dumb IMO (If you have to sign in anyways without the app installed, it should still push notifications)

Newsstand can't be put into a folder, this angers me!

Repeat text notifications are too frequent, maybe once every minute. Makes no sense.

Some screen flipping/background effects etc.

I went through the Notifications settings for most of the apps that I use the most, however the only things that show up on my Lock Screen and Notification Center are Missed Calls and unread texts. I'm not getting any other banners that I setup... Email, Facebook, Reminders, Cal...etc.

Apologies, I only read the first 40 posts and my last page.

My list:
- Opening the camera app from the lock screen, then going back to the homescreen means that the camera app is still open. You'll notice this as everything is really really slow and laggy. Typing is laggy, Safari scrolling is really slow (might also be the cause of bad battery). Quitting the camera from the 'multitask bar' instantly restores device speed.
- Images in the Messages app are zoomed in a little bit, making the image look cropped and blurry. Double tap zooming in and back out doesn't take it to full view, only pinching outwards does.
- (more of a peeve) If you have one item in your notification lock screen, it's really hard to hit the right spot to activate the drag/activate box.

ipAd 2 and iPhone 4 bug report

I've found several bugs on my iPhone but most are easy to live with, but the iPad has one major bug which is quite simply unfixable! I've tried everything with no results, this is also a major bug so I can't really live with it, the bug is that when I play any of the music I've downloaded from iTunes (legal) it only plays for a second and then stops, other, ripped off (stolen/illegal) music works completely! at first I thought this may be caused by itunes match compatibility in iOS5 but then read somewhere that this can be caused by soundcheck so I tried switching it off and on, the results I have gathered by far are:
1-I can listen through headphones
2-I can listen if I rapidly and continuously tap the soundcheck on/off button
3-this bug is only for iPad 2 and official songs.

I also noticed some bugs with the iPhone music app but they aren't as bad as this and as I said I can live with them, for example the now playing button appears on the top left of the song page while it should be on the last page!

I'm the same, or similar at least. I can't play iTunes purchased music on ipad2 if soundcheck is on, it looks like its playing but no sound from speaker, headphones work though. Ripped/stolen tracks work fine too. maybe differently to your problem I can simply turn soundcheck off and all seems to work fine.

On a side note, my iphone4 keeps giving me two notifications from last Thursday at random times, I've already dismissed and responded to these notifications (eBay and Facebook) but they keep popping up randomly as banners and then in notification centre.

How is it a folder if you can't put anything inside of it?

Regardless, it should be able to be moved for people that will NEVER use it.

If you want ultimate flexibility jailbreak.

But it is a folder, and magazine/newspaper subscriptions will go inside of the folder. Shows up as much in xcode.

It makes perfect sense to have it as part of the OS and for those that dont want to use it, you can relegate it to the last page of your phone. Not sure why so many peeps complaining about it. Such entitlement.

It does work. But you cant set custom vibes for mail and text. You can change it system wide and for individual contacts you can have separate ones.

Have had this on non beta and have solved it by deleting app on phone and reinstalling

Other goodies of Safari in iOS5:

* now, it has better auto form filling. So far, while it did save the password, it wouldn't fill out the EduRoam (a European academic network with daily, password-based authorization) forms. I needed to use iCab for that in order not to have to tap / do anything. Now, it's fixed - whenever, at first Internet access at work each day, I'm returned to the EduRoam login page, the input form is nicely filled-in by Safari. The pre-iOS5 version wasn't capable of this - actually, I in no way could make it fill this form. This was one of the reasons of why I used to stick to iCab, which, among other things, automatically filled out this form.

* I especially like the lack of the title bar, which, before iOS5, unnecessarily took up a lot of valuable screen estate. Remember: the title is always visible as the name of the tab. If it's not long enough to display the title, you can either add the current page as a favorite to see the title in its entirety (or being able to scroll the text) or use my dedicated title printer scriptlet (see http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1006692 ). Apple, please, do not listen to people that (may) demand it back – it's not needed as it's really-really easy to quickly(!) get the full(!) title of the current page. With my scriptlet, for example, it only takes one(!) tap (assuming the scriptlet is put on the bookmark bar and it's visible all the time – that is, enable Safari / Always Show Bookmarks Bar in the system-level settings).

* I love the background tab opening (enabled by default) – so far, opening many links on a page necessitated a LOT of additional taps to always switch to the original page. This was one of the major reasons of my preferring alternative browsers (e.g., iCab) supporting background tab opening. Now, this belongs to the past - with the other goodies and advantages of Safari, now it's my preferred Web browser and it's only in some special cases (e.g., need for a download manager, in which e.g. iCab and some other browsers are unbeatable) that I switch to a third-party app.

Note that at least with Opera Mini, some people dislike the default background link opening (see e.g. http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1002092 ). Unlike with Opera Mini, where it cannot be deactivated, you can do this in iOS5's Safari (disable the system-level Settings / Open New Tabs in Background)

* now, in-page text search is done the way I've always hoped for: not only „next”, but also „previous” is implemented! Great!

* back/forward history is also implemented by long-tapping the arrows – excellent!

* It's not killed when it's backgrounded, unlike with all other browsers (except for Opera Mini) if you open more than one tab in them and/or open a somewhat large page. The worst you can experiment is killing the content of, first, other tabs and, in memory critical situations, the current tab itself - this only means they need to be reloaded. This is way more user-friendly than how the third-party browsers are (mis?)treated, allowed memory-wise, even on 521M RAM-equipped models, where these third-party apps are granted equally little memory than on previous (256M) but also multitasking-capable models. (BTW, the latter should also be fixed by Apple. On 512+ RAM devices, backgrounded / suspended apps should be allowed considerably more RAM than in older machines, particularly when there's plenty of free memory still.)

BTW, speaking of memory usage of Web browsers, did I say I'm not very happy with the vast amount of memory UIWebView uses? Well, I say it once again. It is one of the major problems of the platform. You could take a look at how memory-friendly Opera Mini is. While it's capable of rendering with almost the same fidelity (styles, images etc.), it uses orders of magnitude less memory for the same Web page. E.g., a (standard) page that takes about 20-30 Mbytes on a high-res (960*640 / 1024*768) iOS device when kept in memory, only takes 100-200 kbytes or even less(!) in Opera Mini.

All in all – while I certainly disliked the awkward (no background tab opening; it took many taps to switch pages; no dynamic title displaying in Thumbnail mode etc) pre-iOS5 Safari, now, it has become my number one favorite browser. I only use alternative browsers in some specific situations:

* I need a download manager (not supported by Safari) – iCab, Atomic etc.

* I must keep as much tabs / webpages open as possible without them (or the entire Web browser) being killed, not even during resuming from backgrounded state OR I absolutely need to minimize data usage (e.g., while roaming) – then, I use Opera Mini instead.

Every word 100% agree with. Have switched to Safari as default browser.
