To be honest, Apple shouldn't be doing this. Its fine if they remove a Google app from their OS, but they should at least replace it with an equivalent application.
If they don't, it benefits no one.

YouTube is not theirs, it's Google. So it's up to Google to provide service and they have. Through their HTML5 mobile site.

If the license has ended for IOS devices why is it still on the Apple TV ?

That's an IOS device.

We haven't seen a seed for ios for the Apple TV, perhaps it's not.

It's alo possible that it's just a different contract

I like the removal.

1). I prefer the OS to be streamlined and allowing me to download the apps I want to use.

2). YouTube is not an Apple app. But no updates could be done without an update to the OS so even if Google worked on it the new code wouldn't be deployed until the OS was updated (and we know how often that happens). Hopefully this will push Google to update and refine the app. I imagine they paid little attention to improvements because it was embedded.

And yes, we do use it. My grandson loves to watch Minecraft vids on YouTube. The app is much easier for him as opposed to the website. He's 7.

So aside from Siri on the 3rd gen. iPad and Passbook, iOS 6 is nothing but pointless redesigns of apps that worked perfectly before, along with the replacement (if not removal) of services from Google with less complete versions from Apple (if anything).
Why not check out Apple's own list of the important new features in iOS 6 before you make such incorrect and subjective statements?

Remember AltaVista? I do. It didn't take Google long to demote them to irrelevance.

Google's grip on the market is not invulnerable.

Plus Bing is already superior to Google in search, images, and maps.

That's an IOS device.

I'd imagine it's because it's needed on the ATV, due to the lack of a browser.

Shame, I liked the apps for the iPhone and iPad. Probably be similar apps available in the app store to replace it with though.

... [Apple] needs to start being more amenable to cross platform apps or they are going to go bye-bye...
Actually, I think everyone here is basically happy.
  1. Apple has removed Google even more from the stock iOS experience.
  2. Google can push out mobile ads and other improvements through their own app which they can update any time they want.
  3. End users now can choose whether or not they want a YouTube app.

I don't know the last time I used the YouTube app on my iPhone, but as long as Google is making a replacement (like the Google Maps one) then I can live with it.

This benefits no one.

It benefits Apple for not being tied to google. It benefits the users because the dedicated YouTube app will probably have a lot more features such as playlists and copyrighted content.

There is no equivalent app to youtube. Not as good and as big anyway

get real apple plebs that believe that they can do no wrong ... they need to start being more amenable to cross platform apps or they are going to go byebyes /// i'm a big mac fan but i,m getting totally p/o'd with their attitude

^ This is how I feel.

The YouTube app was with me since day one and I absolutely loved it. Sure, it lacked in features but it was a fast and elegant way to view videos on YT. I'd often use it instead of the desktop, actually. But now, that's going away. They've removed Google Maps, YouTube, and broken podcast viewing - three things that I loved about the iOS experience - and they've broken it for us. Not pleased about this at all. :(

That said though, if google did release a native app, I'd enjoy that, but it seems that (as far as I'm thinking) they are going to stick to the mobile site, which is horrible if you ask me. The front page / subscription interface is unusable.

YouTube is my most used app, but it's certainly missing some features. If Google can create a more functional app, sounds fine to me.

Oh gosh what have they done now. YouTube (the app) was with me since day one and I absolutely loved it. Sure, it lacked in features but it was a fast and elegant way to view videos on YT. I could see Google releasing a navitve App. Problem is App does not allow a non native app to launch another app and provides no path for it to be done.

Good riddence.

Why do people not use the superior vimeo.com, any way? It's has a better design, better content, and it's not owned by Google.

Because
a) being owned by Google isn't a bad thing
and
b) because the number of users and videos available to watch on vimeo is a fraction of that on youtube... so while you say it is better content, i say it is far, far, FAR less content.

Eh, only thing broken about the podcast app is that it doesn't sync your position at all anymore (instead of syncing some of the time like it did before). I hope they release a podcast app for OS X and put in iCloud syncing for position. That would be great.

As far as the maps and youtube on iOS. This is great. People who don't use those services don't have to hide the apps anymore and Google regains control over the update cycle of those two very important Google services on iOS. The only downside is that I wouldn't be surprised if the youtube app got ads (which really, the bandwidth has to be paid for somehow).

I could see Google releasing a navitve App. Problem is App does not allow a non native app to launch another app and provides no path for it to be done.

You can do url calls to apps. So an app can launch another app using those. The only problem is that the app has to be coded to launch it (there is no Services menu outside of the Apple provided Share menu). I could be misunderstanding your point.

I will admit I use it from time to time,it loads faster than safari and when you want to show some one a quick video on the go sometimes it easier to use the app

This is actually not a bad thing. The YouTube app, while being one of the most used on my phone, is less than stellar from a UI standpoint.

Surely, Google will create a solid replacement app for the App Store.

Hopefully. But how long will we be without any YouTube app? 0 days? a week? a month? longer?

If it's longer than 0 days, then Apple has made a mistake.
