Is it just me or does the stand alone YouTube app not have ads in it? I know the mobile site does.

I honestly feel like Google's importance in the mobile market is fading, fading away.

This is an interesting point of view. Whether you are talking about the other major OS on phones, or the fact that up until Apple wanted to start baking in their own maps, it seems they are still HERE in a very real way. Not to mention Google PageRank reinventing how web searches and indexing is done. I realize their position can change, and in the tech world it can happen rather quickly....Take RIM and Blackberry OS as a perfect example. But something else has to come along to replace it, or better it, in order for that to take place.

I like the removal of the app. It will allow Google to improve it and release a better version of the app, and those of us who don't want it can just not download it. As an owner of both iOS and Android devices, that YouTube app sucked ass.

Itunes match!!

For you Itunes Match people you can now ether delete the whole album or just a song. I really hope that in Beta 5 you can choose to single download a song.

I don't recall ads in the app videos. I wonder if Google was pressing Apple to make up for the lost ad revenue. I find the ads on the regular youtube website annoying.

They are such liars

"We want to ensure that the YouTube experience really sucks on iOS. So we will release the most bastardized and buggiest hunk of junk that Apple will let us get away with and then compare this to our own first-party apps...on Android, of course."

Yeah, Google is probably going to include ads in their new iOS app. Apple is happy because they don't have a Google app as a default and Google is happy because they'll be able to show ads.

If only...

They would fix the Google search bug that disables the 'Search' button in Safari when using Google search, rather than having to fumble with picking the spy glass icon in the search browser... such a pain!
:apple:

I dont trust google to make a good app

That google voice app is a piece of ****
Same as GMail (don't if it improved on recent versions).

But for one, I think the bundled Youtube app sucks.
Now that I use Flipboard to access my Youtube subscriptions and use the browser version inside Filpboard, that looks better.
Now, YouTube on the iPad is a different story, but still quite not up there where you'd expect it.

Hopefully this google app will allow you to have all the features you can find from the full-fledged (read:desktop) version of the site.

That's the only app I'd also like to see removed, only to be put in the app store for user choice. Stocks is simply a non-critical function for the phone. But I think all the other apps are fine and are important for cross iCloud compatibility with OSX. Don't see those going away ever. Don't mind either since I also use all of them on a daily basis.

You use the compas on a daily basis ???

Can I ask why ?

I doubt it. It'll most likely be a frontend for the web app like all their others.
Let's have faith :p

Get protube from cydia, much better
But Protube, except for the "saving to MP3" and so on "extras" (that could be seen as the desktop site with browser add ons), is the same as the mobile version. At least, it seems to me.

Plus, ProTube doesn't even fake the User-Agent, so restricted videos (because of the adds, that I block anyway on the desktop) won't show up.
So it makes it a bit pointless to me (being a Cydia app and all).

Just noticing something a bit off topic; I find it interesting that since MacRumors removed the "-" vote button, members seemed to have stopped voting comments altogether. The complaints about wanting to vote someone down were trifling!

Was a negative vote that important? How about simply voting comments in a thread that are helpful and civil, allowing readers to get right to the point without weeding through hundreds of petty back and forth trite? Negative votes seemed to bully people who may have a valid point but the usual repeat offenders policing the threads decided they didn't approve.

It's amazing, before there were dozens of votes, now barely any.

I see it as a win-win for both companies. Only major downside I see for users is ads but hopefully that will be offset by better content.

The YouTube app has been worthless on my phone for a long time now, so this is only good news.

Let's get this straight...

The original MacRumors post has an update that includes an official statement from Apple acknowledging the app removal, plus there are 255+ comments to the thread, many which confirm the disappearance of the YouTube iOS app and yet you are still wondering is this real life?

Really?

HAHAHA...Thanks for the info:rolleyes:

Wow....It went right over your head by miles, huh? I think u may be the ONLY person on the planet that doesn't get the joke. Bravo!
