Good riddence.

Why do people not use the superior vimeo.com, any way? It's has a better design, better content, and it's not owned by Google.

thank god. the youtube app done by apple was horrible. now that google has control, hopefully it will be loads better and get frequent updates

When has Google ever made anything that looked good and worked? Like everything else they'll do, they'll be lazy and just make the app a wrapper for the mobile site. Google wants you to go through their websites so they can continue to track you, any way.

This may sound trivial but I never liked Apple's YouTube icon. Even though it was on the home screen day in and day out, I'd always forget and be looking for the real logo.

Finally, we'll get an app from Google that has their logo!

Maybe we'll get a decent Youtube app now. The website works ok but it's nowhere as good as the app on Android.

To be frank, even Google wouldn't use the direct logo, most likely. They'd use the red rectangular shape with the play symbol in the middle, I suppose that's better than a 1920's TV though...

get real apple plebs that believe that they can do no wrong ... they need to start being more amenable to cross platform apps or they are going to go byebyes /// i'm a big mac fan but i,m getting totally p/o'd with their attitude

Can't please everyone. Some people will miss it, others won't. I say good riddance. It's about time.

Fine on iPad and iPhone, but that's a bit of a bugger on Apple TV, which has no Safari. Yeah, I know, you can AirPlay, but that ties up your iPad/iPhone. Bring on the Apple TV App Store.

Please note I'm making an assumption about this removal including Apple TV, it may not for all I know.

This was inevitable, and a good move.

As I commented here on June 12:
I'm honestly expecting for Apple to just drop the Youtube app and for Google to release their own app in the App Store.

I can't see Apple spending extra resources on improving a Google product.

I agree, it seems most of the Apple fans pre-iPod and iMac are actually the MOST pissed, due to the fact we know how they've changed.

why don't they use "vimeo.com'?... are you dumb or something ... cos it's a money grabbing piece of schieser thats why
will you drag yourselves into the 20th century there please

I use the youtube app everyday, didn't know there was so much hate for it. It's the only default streaming app, and it starts faster than m.youtube.com. I for one am not happy about this.

its all good i got tired of the youtube app on iphone anyways..needs a major change..like on my gs3..i wonder if they will allow downloading like on android

This is great news.

The YouTube app was so outdated on iOS, I don't it has received a serious update since it was first released! You full list of subscriptions won't even show anymore, it's that outdated.

Now Google will handle the app and updates and Apple can concentrate on their own things.

IMO, Apple should make more things modular in iOS, Newsstand, Stocks, Weather, etc... should be removable, but downloadable from the App Store.

To be honest, Apple shouldn't be doing this. Its fine if they remove a Google app from their OS, but they should at least replace it with an equivalent application.
If they don't, it benefits no one.

I ask 'why bother'? What benefit does the YouTube app have over, lets say, YouTube.com? Just go to youtube.com or m.youtube.com and you can do more. The app itself is almost something apple would have rejected by their current store guidelines. It provides no more value that a simple website wrapped in an app. You can't save anything for offline viewing, and you can't do anything more than you can in the web app, so what was is the point of it?

The one reason I use the YouTube app over YouTube in Safari: The YouTube app still plays videos in landscape even if the phone is locked to portrait orientation. Great for lying in bed.

Really quite surprised that apparently nearly everyone uses Safari for YouTube on their iPhone anyway, I've always used the stock YouTube app. Perhaps Apple picked up on this and realised they could now do away with it without too much backlash. Probably a good thing - Google's YouTube app on Jelly Bean is great, and we might see this standard come to iOS as a new app.

Well - given that iOS will never offer widgets on the home screen - YouTube will never offer the same functionality as in Android.

Damn, that YouTube widget is one nice piece of software :D

There is nothing to indicate that their will ever be a search engine that could be bigger than google. It's not going to happen for a very, VERY long time.

Remember AltaVista? I do. It didn't take Google long to demote them to irrelevance.

Google's grip on the market is not invulnerable.
