I would like to see Apple moving its apps to the App Store and let customers decide for themselves whether they want to use them or not. I have so many junk apps that I never use. I won’t jailbreak for that.

Google is nothing like Apple for holding back features for users, it much rather you have the full experience, but Apple doesn't allow it. This is an Apple issue, not a Google issue.

I highly doubt Apple prevented Google from releasing their own Maps or YouTube apps on the App Store. More likely, Google didn't have a reason to devote resources to it since Apple included their own.

That will change once iOS 6 comes.

The only thing I'll miss is Apple's app was completely ad free. The Google created app won't be.

Did YouTube disappear from the Apple TV beta 4?

Can I say something about YouTube?

I must say that YouTube exemplifies Google's leadership. It is enormously popular, no doubt. And good for them. The experience when you go to YouTube the way it really works (either a trusted url or a search for something specific -- google still gets high marks for search -- and watching the short film. But YouTube's forums are almost always a revolting experience. They're like airport rest rooms. That's bad. Lots of teenagers flaunting bad words.

I'm hoping this is because there's another app for it in production. The current one is pretty useless - I have a shortcut to the site on my home screen instead of the app.

They are not making another one, it was removed for the same reason they sued samsung (smartphone design). They feel threatened because of the new rising android users wave and they are now trying to mess with google or samsung in everyway even thought these new designs have been around since the first iphone came out that everyone copied it. Now they decided to remove the youtube app... AND yes it was useless just bookmark youtube mainpage with HQ videos and is way better.

O well, this can be a good thing. Now, google can bring an app to the app store that handles subscriptions properly.

I dont know why.....but i have a feeling that there will never be a Maps app and a youtube app made by google. I hope Im 100% wrong but I just have a feeling that it will never come out.

Youtube and google still win bc iphone users have to go to m.youtube.com

Mobile youtube is still better.. Just create a Icon on your home page.

I've had youtube stuck in a junk folder along with stocks and weather.

They've not updated it in years so no loss.

Great, when will they get rid of the rest of the useless undeletable stuff, like Reminders, Notes, Calendar, worst of all Newsstand (since it can't be dumped in a folder)? Just give me Phone and App Store (with the ability to download "stock apps" through there) and we'll be golden

So aside from Siri on the Third Gen iPad and Passbook on the iPhones and fourth Gen iPod touch, this iOS is nothing but pointless redesigns of apps that worked perfectly before along with the replacement (if not straight up removal) of programs that provided services from Google with less complete versions from Apple (if anything at all). Yup sounds like an exciting upgrade, all right!

I'm one of the few that still use the app as their main YouTube viewer, even though I can easily say the website is leaps and bounds ahead of the app. So I'm glad to hear there's an actual app update coming as well.

You are 100 percent wrong. Google has already issued a statement on Maps and Apple just released one stating Google was working on a YouTube app.

Google wants ad revenue from millions of iOS users too.

more importantly..

It might be that the youtube videos worked better in Safari, one question though..

Will the trick of minimizing youtube, double-clicking the home button and starting the sound of the video through the task-manager still work?
It is a pretty cool feature when you want to use your phone for listening to music on youtube and wants to save power by turning of the screen..

Just wondering?

Wrong again. Apple was maintianing and building the Apps. Not Google. This has been documented. It's also the reason why Google's web app's works WAY better than the stock iOS apps.

Perhaps they should move the App Store app to the App Store as well?

Oh wait.

ok with me. I might have used it once or twice.
it is tucked away in an unused "utilities" folder...actually "Utilities 2"

and for the question raised about why is it still on the AppleTV...could it (aside from being a different contract) be an issue of not having Safari or another way to view You Tube Videos?
(sorry I do not have an AppleTV)

Haha. I guess I'm one of the few who actually liked the iOS app. Still, I'm happy that Google will be releasing their own, hopefully, well supported and updated app for iOS. Look forward to seeing it.

Yes :) It works now, in fact.

Whats wrong with those apps? I use them on a daily basis.
