Thank you Apple! The final step to a Google free iPhone. I really won't miss Youtube.

I guess Apple will continue to push and support Vimeo from now on.

iPad app was good.

The Youtube app on iPhone felt very archaic, but the one on the iPad was actually very pleasant to use. It sucks the the iPad won't get. I liked how you could favourite, like, comment, and view other related videos while watching the main video.

It seems Apple is really not interested in keeping relations with anything Google now.

You can do all of that on the YouTube site in Safari on the iPad.

I'm actually thankful its gone... I never liked the icon very much, I almost never use it (except when safari opens it for me).. and every time I do try to use it, its interface feels untouched since day one of the iPhone.

So here's hoping google's revised app for the app store makes some much-needed improvements :)

Protube (the jailbreak m.youtube app) has got a nitro JavaScript update recently so the stock YouTube app is totally redundant.

Was getting upset reading this until I saw the part about Google working on their version of the app. As long as there is SOME kind of youtube app, whether its apple's preloaded one or a google specific app, I'll be happy. I use YouTube all the time on my phone and iPad. Have no idea why so many here proclaiming the current app useless. It plays F'n videos that are on YouTube without you having to open a browser to do so. Wow, very useless indeed. The fanboyism here is amazing.

They removed the app to cut ties with google. This in no way benefits you or me; regardless if we used it or not.

This is the beginning of the end folks... Apple is officially big brother.

It's the "beginning of the end" because Apple removed a YouTube app that they haven't updated in, what, 4-5 years, and that will be replaced in a few months with a brand new one? Okay.

Our kids are the big users of the YouTube app, honestly. They've got a bunch of their little cartoons and "how to" videos bookmarked in it as favorites and so on.

But even they've complained that the app is flaky. On my Sprint iPhone 4s, for example, my kid often has to power the phone completely off and back on again before the YouTube app will stream any videos when we get to my mom's house and it connects via her wi-fi. It's weird because everything else that uses the wi-fi on the phone seems to be fine when this happens, so I can't really blame anything other than the YouTube app.

I won't mourn its loss if Apple deletes it. But I agree that A) Google would be wise to release an enhanced, new YouTube player app in the App Store as a free download for people who still want it, and B) it might be nice for Apple to at least provide a shortcut icon that launches the m.youtube.com site in Safari on iOS devices.

My kids mainly only use this app too, but I think they will be able to handle the mobile version too.

This is good. The YouTube app was never updated and you couldn't watch high quality videos on 3G like you can in m.youtube.com. If you disable the YouTube app in Restriction settings, YouTube links will open in Safari and be much better quality. With this, no need to disable it in the settings anymore.

nice, thanks for this tip!

Agreed. As long as whatever app is released still works with AirPlay then I'm easy.

It doesn't actually play F'n videos all the time. A lot of the videos I watch aren't actually allowed to be watched through the Apple app. So yeh, very useless.

Whatever, I always just went to YouTube.com anyway. The app was annoying. I will miss the integration though.

because they removed the youtube app? Not sure that is very big brotherish

Now get rid of the Stock App.

Most people don't use it.

Actually, why not remove all of the Apps and make them suggested App downloads on Setup ?

Can't we all choose what we want?

Or at least let us delete the ones we don't

That's the only app I'd also like to see removed, only to be put in the app store for user choice. Stocks is simply a non-critical function for the phone. But I think all the other apps are fine and are important for cross iCloud compatibility with OSX. Don't see those going away ever. Don't mind either since I also use all of them on a daily basis.

My concern is how this will affect embedded YouTube videos. Right now they use the built-in player, as you will notice if you disable the YouTube app in restrictions.

One down.... Now about Newstand....

I can't belie the numbe rod comments that this is a bad thing. The app wasn't very good it served it's purpose we'll pre app store etc.

Reminders, Stocks, Notes, and Newsstand should all be optional like iBooks.

This will be a big hit for Google. Having the YouTube app installed by default on the home screen generates a lot more traffic for them than a separate app you have to download or through web browsing and other links. Same as the Google map app being replaced as well.

This was always going to happen when Google chose to be a competitor rather than a partner. I'm sure Apple would drop Google as the default search as well if Bing wasn't so poor in comparison.
