"I won't use it and therefore it shouldn't be in the OS!" - Crusty MacRumors users that are out of touch with how the majority of Apple's customer base (society) lives their lives in 2012.

Grow up.

Well, that's an oxymoron.

This is going to mean more ****** apps that require FB. There should be a special section of the app description in the store to tell us whether FB is required, right next to where it shows which devices can run an app.

Then the crusty iPhone/iPad users can stay away from the garbage.

But who is to say the postman wont open your letters, and sell the information to the CIA?

Um, Federal prison conditions?

Because an internet forum, typically full of sensationalistic posters, knows what's best for the iPhone?

How about this? The clear conclusion from rational people: Don't log in if you don't want Facebook integration.

You mean don't log in to FB plus thousands of other apps which will increasingly require that crap following Apple's formal system-wide incentives? Thanks for the useful advice anyway.

Yes, because we've CERTAINLY seen a flood of apps that require you to log in via Apple's system-wide Twitter integration in iOS 5, amirite?

Turn it off, sure. But I gotta say....

^ is only way I ever feel truly safe from Facebook.

that only blocks Facebook.com... anything like tracker.facebook.com still works fine.

I deleted my FB account. Instead I have a garden and children and a real fire to sit beside talking to my real family. What is it with folk that they think FB is a valid alternative to reality?

Is it just me that thinks Apple is losing direction? I see a case for spinning off the Computer Apple Company as a separate IPO. Current Apple seems to be ignoring that. After all, we don't all want to be 'cool' with our iPads. To be fair, the iPhone is great, Twitter is not used and neither will FB get used in IOS 6 on mine.

Let's have more computer technology leaps Apple, there's more to life than FB on an iPhone or iPad.
In other words, you're the the one with a boring life, cause all you do is watching kids in the garden by a real fire...

Why melt an app into an IOS? There's an app for that. Good enough for me.

----------

i like but rarely use twitter integration and although i'm on facebook i, for one, do not want to see it integrated into my ios or osx environments, hopefully one can assume that this can be switched off in preferences.

+1

Crazy amazing how most of Macrumors would prefer Apple NOT do this. I guess there is hope for humanity yet.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Zuck will say something stupid over the next week and get the entire integration pulled last second. The would be awesome.

Who cares? Really, who cares?

Why not have OS-level integration of Twitter, FB, tumblr, Pininterest, Flickr, 500px, Google+, etc.? It'd be good for those that love social networking but if you don't want that stuff just ignore it. It's hardly going to be intrusive, is it?

I use Flickr but I'm not actually sure I've ever used, or even really noticed, the iOS Twitter functionality.

Just because you don't want it doesn't mean others don't. Many apps use Facebook to login (thereby preventing the ordeal of going through signing up for a new account with the app itself). If you don't like the integration, you can simply choose not to use it.

And that's another reason to hate facebook. I do not want to have to use them for ANYTHING.

I don't know.

Maybe it's the same thing that has you ranting on an anonymous internet forum, instead of enjoying your "garden and children and a real fire to sit beside".

Even the article itself says that, haven't you read? We already have HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of apps doing that...Twitter is nowhere near FB in terms of intrusiveness potential.

i really don't get the big deal. if you don't want to use the system-wide integration then just don't use it. what is so hard about that? is ignoring things that are of no use to you but useful to other people that upsetting that we're really having a huge debate over it?

Name one app that *only* uses Twitter for a log in that doesn't have an alternative.

Sheesh, you people get so worked up over nothing. Take off the tinfoil hat and go outside.

If Apple is adding FB integration to iOS it must be over. Wow Apple! Another "feature" I won't use! Let's see....public IPO, billion dollar purchase of another company (Instagram), tight iOS integration, ads soon to be everywhere on mobile - yup, FB is over.

"So, from now on I will have to use Facebook if I want an iOS device. Any time I unlock my device I'll need to make sure I'm signed in to Facebook and it will automatically post to Facebook that Joe Smith just unlocked his iPhone. Any future Apple purchases will be done through Facebook.com so it can be verified by Facebook. Any picture I take will automatically be uploaded to Facebook and by default be available to everyone in the world. I will sign an agreement stating that once a day I must post something private about myself that I don't want anyone to know."
- Everyone on here who is freaking out over nothing

"No big deal. I don't have to use it if I don't want to."
- Everyone on here who knows the definition of 'OPTION'

I actually quite like the idea.
On two conditions. Security is done Apple style. And that Zuckerburg has no say in what the security measures are for iOS. Also no facebook style advertising.

I think you're making some assumption Facebook wouldn't want to do this because it would be too costly. The profile isn't public, there's no webhosting upkeep or photots to store. A shadow profile will only be a dozen or so kilobytes of collected information. And if those people ever do join, Facebook has a history of info all ready to go for them. In short, it would be poor sense (from a business perspective) not to be doing this.

No, I'm just pointing out
1) speculation is not proof
2) if requesting access to contacts is what makes a company culpable for shadow profiles, then every social network and social game company is guilty of making shadow profiles

Yes I did read it, and the 'unfair demands' are allowed due to Facebooks OWN policy's on the voting! So don't try that one. It's their own fault.

No, that's not what it said.

And as for Twitter.... hahahahahaha, ok, go on an post a link where it state Twitter has been investigated by almost every government around the globe for breaches on data protection and abusing users privacy!

And also in those articles it is AGAIN surrounding users AGAIN using freedom of data acts to gain access to the data they deleted of Facebook only AGAIN for it to be discovered FB is holding all that deleted data.

Yeah, meanwhile Google holds onto all your data for 18 months before deletion and is already integrated into iOS in the form of gmail, search, and maps. Meaning they scan your personal inbox, determine your interests, and geolocate you and store that info on their servers. I bet you were protesting that integration.

Twitter has also sold your data for the last two years to Datasift, a company that's able to look at your tweets and profile your demographics, temperament, and how influential you are over others and is selling that information to marketers. But since Twitter hasn't been investigated (the fact they only have 150M actives to FB's 900M actives probably has something to do with this), keep going on about how the Man is out to get you and is only gonna use FB to do it.

I think that Facebook integration with evident. I mean it's the biggest social networking site on the planet. Good to know that finally iOS 6 will have it. Another thing I would love to see it that the Facebook, Twitter Text for sharing has a little thumbnail icon of their logos making them pop out more. Great move from Apple!
