some of u seem to have a different understanding of "friends" or maybe its a generation thing but i for one like to know what my close friends are doing. its nice to keep up when u dont see them much and would love to be there with them. even if its a "i'm on the beach" status. cant be that hard to scroll past it if it doesnt interest u

FB is a great platform to keep in touch as i moved away for uni 2 years ago. I dont think i'd still be talking to some of my buddies from home without fb bc u tend to grow appart but with fb its easy to kinda "experience" what they r up to even if u aren rly with them

if you are so concerned about your privacy, u may as well move to the canadian woods without a credit card, phone, internet etc.

lol at all those grandpas downvoting me

You haven't been reading this thread. Facebook doesn't need you to sign in to an account. They keep profiles on people built purely on data-mining and the information supplied by other members. The only difference is the profile can't be viewed on their website.

Yea, I know. In fact, I think I've posted twice, once in this forum and another forum saying exactly the same thing.

But - my point was - if you don't sign into Facebook on your phone, your phone won't be a method of communication.

I read the complaint

The guy's "proof" is that FB asks for access to contacts. He's arguing that since FB asks for access to contacts which most likely include non FB members, it must be doing it because it's trying to create shadow profiles on non-members. That's not proof, that's speculation

Twitter also asks for access to contacts. So does Google +. So does Yelp. So does Linked In. So does Draw With Friends. So does Words with Friends, etc etc etc

I guess every social networking or social gaming company must be trying to create shadow profiles

I think that people are going overboard with the FB hate... iOS 5.0 had twitter integration and i never noticed... If you dont want FB iOS 6.0 functionality, then disable it.. Period

Just look at the way this cat writes!

I think you get it.

No thank you!

I don't have a Facebook account or want one. I certainly don't want it integrated into my OS of choice. What happens when Facebook takes a nosedive? Option to uninstall? Not with it integrated into the OS you won't!

Keep it to an app that you can install if you want it.

----------

System wide it will be like twitter (assuming) if you don't have it, it won't even show up. BUT. App developers are increasingly having you sign into FB to load scores and in some cases even play... that is what I hate.

Me too. I hate to be forced to use anything. If a game or app requires Facebook, then I don't get it.

I just want to point out that data mining isn't exclusive to Facebook or google...ever used Siri? You can bet that Apple saves that information for later.

Or iAds or iCloud?
Apple is as bad as google and FB when it comes to data minding and sharing personal info with their "partners", which is basically any company that pays the access fee to obtain the data.

You are a child. Or at the very least tech illiterate. Having a company the virtual front end of government based database intentions is not a "stupid" reason to avoid Facebook. It is THE reason. But go ahead give it up to a corporate entity that has already proven it's intentions. To help the good ol' control of citizens any way it can. Not even some respectable Google stand-off to pressure. Just total folding. Probably crafting policy right now with both branches,

I saw a fifth grader from the Seattle area, spell because; "BC" on a televised spelling bee. I think that tells the story!

Visa already knows more about you than FB does.

What's your point? Visa lends out credit (money), it is well within their right to have your personal information considering they are taking a risk on you and credit history is a good indicator on how reliable you are.

I'd trust Visa with my info more than Facebook, its in Visas best interest to keep my info safe whereas Facebook seems to only care about how much information they can sell. There is a reason why they have been able to survive and I guarantee you that they don't survive on ads alone.

Anyway if this is going to be the big feature of iOS 6 then I'll be extremely disappointed. I'm hoping for some functionality updates (better multitasking, more customization options, a basic file system etc.) But I guess I wont hold my breath. I think there is nothing good that could come out of system deep intregration from any 3rd party let alone a company that doesn't make money from anything other than ads and selling peoples info.

That focusing on FB for privacy issues is like focusing on Iraq for WMD.

Visa doesn't sell your information - instead it sells the right to sell that information to everyone who accepts Visa as payment.

Oh the irony, Facebook is changing it's privacy policies because of a audit by the Irish Data Protection Commissioner even though the audit said it was lawful, but reading the info it again came about after users realized FB had retained their deleted content:

http://techcrunch.com/2012/05/11/facebook-privacy-policy-changes/

And apparently FB is looking into targeting you with ads when you log into non FB sites with your FB account....

You can apparently vote for or against the changes as they have been forced to allow this:

Oh No

This is not a good thing.

TechCrunch reports that iOS 6 will include system-level integration of Facebook, similar to the integration seen with Twitter in iOS 5. The report comes just days after Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke positively about Facebook at the D10 Conference, closing his thoughts on the relationship between Apple and Facebook with the suggestive phrase "stay tuned".TechCrunch notes that Apple and Facebook are still working out how sharing items to Facebook will be integrated, given the varying levels of permissions on Facebook posts. The report also includes the caveat that Apple has been known to change its mind in the past, but as of right now Facebook integration is reportedly set to be unveiled in iOS 6 at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference later this month.

I'm a big advocate of specially-designated roads where texting-while-driving is not only allowed, it's absolutely encouraged.
You've brought up an excellent point.

While I enjoy driving too much to text while driving. I do frequent these roads a lot. Its fun to follow the rich 35 year old blonde in her new Mercedes SL 65, as she weaves and nearly runs off the road while texting.

And it gets better! During rush hour on the toll roads here in Orange County, there's lots of gals & guys engaging in this same activity. Rumor has it the body shops enjoy the extra business :)

Man I'd kill to turn off gamecenter integration the way I can turn off twitter integration.

Anytime you deviate from what a stock phone should be...you make it worse for the consumer. Kind of like buying a windows laptop. Who wants all that unneeded software? Keep the phone all apple related and leave the additions up to those who want to add them.

Frankly I'm very surprised that first Apple marries Twitter, then gets in bed with Facebook. If Apple added their apps as standard, that would be bad enough. (like bloatware on a PC) But to have them "Baked In" that takes it to a whole new level.

Apple can be so hypocritical. One minute their bragging about keeping it pure Apple, secure and devoid of outside influence, the next minute they're forcing "features" on us that are only there for one reason... To increase Apples revenues.

Who knows why Zuck & Apple have fallen in love, but one things for certain. The Apple apologists and followers will fawn over this new development. At a bare minimum it'll help sell even more phones which is all Apple cares about.

Yes, Yes, I know, it can be ignored, turned off, not used, etc. But that's not the point... Not even close.

BLEH!
