That's because it's an iPhone 4s. Don't expect the same performance from it as the iPhone 5s
But we shouldn't expect it to forget email accounts, right? And a certain level of usability, too?

Might be the phone? Just updated my significant others iPhone 4 to 7.1 and there is no discernible change in performance. And trust me...I would hear about it...
Over 2 phones, and persisting over a DFU restore or 3? I don't know why this is either, except that she started complaining the day she upgraded to iOS 7, and after 7.1 didn't fix anything she got a replacement iPhone, which (while better) still isn't as good as iOS 6 was.

It amazes me that you don't see that all your comments apply to you too...

you seriously dont see the difference between

a) users commenting on something that has no impact on them and imposing their thoughts and ideas on other users for the simple reason that their life revolves around a company

b) users who this does affect wanting them and their purchases treated better

You have a bad sense of design if you think that iOS 6, with its antiquated mismatched colors, looks nicer than iOS 7. Anyway, I don't have to deal with this problem very much since I upgraded to iOS 7 on my iOS device.

...see how that works?

Actually I don't give a damn about what you think or your opinion of someone else's opinion of design. Just making a point.

Yet your giving making a point about someone elses opinion of the design.

If your devices can't be upgraded to iOS 7, chances are it doesn't support FaceTime anyway because there's no front facing cam, or at least this is true for the 3GS. So Apple is pretty much just telling you to update to iOS 7.

On one hand, people should just upgrade. On the other hand, Apple actually killed a functionality that your phone originally came with and you paid for. There could be a class action lawsuit here.

Not if Apple offers a fix (which is upgrade to iOS 7.

Well, that's your choice of course, but my iPad 3 runs great on iOS 7. I will be buying a new one towards the end of this year, just to get something lighter with a fresh battery, but no-one's forcing me to.

Well, the consensus on this forum and reviews on Youtube say quite the opposite. Most impressions and reviews say that some features have been left out of iOS 7 on the iPad 3 and the performance has taken a hit as well.

Since i'm not allowed to test drive iOS 7 I won't take that chance but it's nice to hear someone likes iOS 7 on their iPad 3.

Listen man. We can't help you if you have performance issues, and neither can apple. This thread is about the FaceTime issue. Let's stay in topic.

;)

Performance performance performance performance performance performance performance performance! Is there a problem with iOS 7 users? Get it into you head people PERFORMANCE!

So just so it's clear: You come on a PUBLIC forum to complain about something, and when someone disagrees with you, you tell them to mind their own business?

Got it. I've been doing this internet thing all wrong...

Why should people update just because other people think they should? You go ahead, and other people can make up their mind for their own reasons (which they don't have to explain or justify to anyone else) too. It's everybody's own business.

----------

Well, ethics is relative...what may seem unethical to you, may be ethical to another.

.. It is just not ethical way to do business... But it is perfectly legal...

If apple is going to make us upgrade to ios7 then stop disabling features for older devices. Like seri, airdrop (over wifi), stabilization and more.

What device did Apple disable Siri on?

I never thought I would see the day where there would be so many Apple fans arguing amongst themselves.

Over the years it appears Apple has drilled into so many peoples heads that "Choice is bad"

Well choice isnt bad. If everyone in the world liked the same thing, it would be a pretty boring world.

Some people like ios 7 and its new looks and features, some people prefer ios 6 and its original look. Why cant people just accept that rather then having to be rude, abusive and insulting towards each other.

Its 2014, 7 years since the original iPhone and Apple still dosent give people the choice to customise how YOUR phone looks.
Yep and why this is a surprise to anyone is beyond me. If you're looking for choice you probably shouldn't own an iOS device in the first place.

Evolution can not be achieved bu clinging on to the past. As more people already said, there is way too less performance difference between iOS 7.1/7.11 - 6.x, than there was between 7.0-6.x

performance issue are a reason why people are not willing to update hence they are upset with this so it is perfectly on topic.

you obviously dont get why people are upset

marvelous answer yet nobody could have predicted the last 6+ months from apple with regards to ios6 devices. there is no precedent for this behavior by apple so this variation of "gun to the head" line is pointless

It really bugs me that people don't like upgrading Lol. iOS 7 works GREAT and I've gotten very used to it by now.

Why wouldn't you want to be up to date and on the same page as other users?

Actually, in my opinion, FaceTime is much better because it seamlessly integrates with the OS, instead of dropping (like Skype) it pauses calls, no logging in, connects directly every time (I've had issues adding new users on Skype, not a sure thing)

After updating my significant others iPhone 4 to iOS 7.1 (no complaints mind you) we not only FaceTime as we did before often, but I've switched over to FT Audio 100% for phone calls and even on my SO's slow ass connection FTA always works.

This is why apple-haters are born. What a terrible company, it has lost its way. Im not upgrading to iOS 7 baby user interface.

Install Skype everyone. Also, I belive the Facebook app can also make video calls. And both these apps go to Android devices and PC/Mac. BETTER THEN FACETIME

After watching the zealots defend Apple purposely stopping FaceTime from working on IOS 6 I now know why it's called the "Cult of Apple". Jim Jones would be jealous of the devotion and absolute unquestioning loyalty that people have to Apple.

IMHO that quote is more applicable to the people who don't want to upgrade...

But, as they say in the Matrix (regarding the apologists):

"Most of these people are not ready to be unplugged, and many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it"

Wake up, people.

The company has its tubes inside you. ;)

This commenter above seems to be a troll, but I will answer anyway:
Because my phone worked great since I bought it AND it was not designed with iOS7 in mind.

Sadly I am pretty sure that commentator was your typical zealot who blindly worships at the alter of Apple.

Darn kids! Get off my lawn!!!!

Is it funny that I keep reading your screen name as 'sonic crybaby'?

I find it kinda creepy. People taking offence because someone suggests they update to what they think is the best version of the SW, how egotistical is that.

Have you ever considered jailbreak?

Yes it is, you should get your eyes checked. You even quoted me where I clearly said "I jailbroke it and still didnt like it"

Yes. It's a discussion forum so A) don't be surprised when someone disagrees with your public statement and B) no need to beat a dead horse.

Why does complaining here as well does no good? Not only do we not know what it might lead to, but no one but me knows what does me good, so if discussing and complaint here about it is doing me some good in whatever way, doesn't seem like anyone can say otherwise, right? It's a discussion forum, saying there's no point to discuss something and people should just be quiet about this or that goes against the whole point of it. Those who don't care about the discussion or don't like it can simply not participate in it or even spend any of their time looking through it at all.

I'm actually glad Apple is doing something about these people that refuse to update their systems. Give them no choice if they continue to want to run FaceTime - priceless.

Who's a good little boy then?

Maybe the next iPhone will replace the fingerprint detector with a tongue-print detector in the shape of Tim Cook's derrière - just for you.

This thread is downright hostile, like Apple.

Here are a few links to help transition out of Apple.
My beloved iPhone 4s with iOS6, which Steve Jobs designed and approved to perfection, is my new iPod.

Moving on… :)

Brace yourselves....!:D

Did iOS 6 users actually think they could stay on outdated software FOREVER and not have any problems?!

Did iOS 6 users actually think that as the world around them progresses and technology and hardware moves forward, they could remain on outdated software and have everything still work fine?!

How long are iOS 6 users planning on staying on iOS 6?

FOREVER?!

lol good luck with that hahaha!

I can't tell if you're joking, or if you're just a complete idiot...

For example, my mother would be better with her iPhone4 in iOS6, the flat design does not help her.

Some people are arguing about security bugs and holes, well if there is already 80% of people using iOS7, I am pretty sure hackers have already move to iOS7 as it is know that they would target much more devices than iOS 6. Maybe they exploit both of them but who knows, maybe they don't even care for iOS6 now.

It is not at all the same thing. The security hole in iOS6 is real, widely known, and affects the basic security method of connecting to the Internet. Letting your mother continue to use an operating system with that kind of security hole is totally irresponsible.

Again, I understand that this is frustrating to folks, but we also need to remember that Apple has always been relatively ruthless when it comes to forward progress and leaving legacy hardware and software behind. Their mobile platform is where all the rapid development is now happening, and they have made the corporate decision that they would rather look forward than backwards. If that doesn't agree with you, I'd suggest a different platform.

For Apple and many of its customers though it feels great to be finally freed from the shackles of legacy compatibility. How long has Microsoft dragged its feet in REALLY updating Windows? Businesses and customers complained that they couldn't adapt for so long that it has nearly taken the company down. The only way for Apple to really remain competitive in the fast moving mobile market is to remain free enough of legacy constraints that they can move, and change direction rapidly. Offering consumers 'choice' when it comes to the OS version they update to would completely undermine that strategy.

This has nothing to do with a "visual change of iOS 7".

It has everything to do with iOS 7 being horrendously slow on iPhone 4 hardware, being slow and constantly crashing on iPhone 4S, and just being buggy for all devices. Just seeing how fluid windows phone 8.1 is on a 60$ Nokia 520 makes me cringe.

As per usability, the last thing I want to do is explain to my uncle things like "swipe from the bottom, twice, after you see that tiny triangle while watching a video and then wait for the airplay button to appear". Some things that used to take 3 button clicks are now 5.

Apple just forced all users with older hardware to upgrade.
